The following grow turned out to be all males, if you wish to read about the cab construction etc then read on. If you wish to skip to the current grow use these links:
Couple of weeks vegging
Three females, kept two, vert scrog screen in
Day 5 of flower, starting to stretch!
The Grow Cab
I'll show you my cab first, it's a small cupboard, dimensions are: 27"x31"x23" (HWD). I live in smallish flat so having a growdrobe would unfortunately be too conspicuous. I added some wheels to it and it's proved to be a good move. I can now move the cab into my flatmate's room if relatives come round and it allows me to have passive intakes on the floor, making it more stealthy, as there's not a load of massive holes in the back. I light proofed it with some black acoustic foam, which actually worked really well.
There are four 5" passive intakes, air is then extracted out into a carbon filter via a S&P TD 150 on the low (106 cfm) setting. Lighting just now is a 150w blue cfl. I have a 250w cmh on it's way and I plan on hanging it vertically, hopefully without the cooltube, in a vertical scrog, as you can see below:
Air is extracted out into a 5 inch rhino carbon filter sits on top in a plastic tote as you can see in these pics:
In terms of noise, it's like a hum that you can only hear as you get closer to it. The fan is silent (19db), it's just the movement of the air. Once my pc veg case is running it should cover the noise adequately. I'm also going to try it with some acoustic ducting when I get some more cash, though it might take up too much room with all the insulation. A temperature monitoring fan controller is on the want to buy list too!
Hydroponic System
I'll be using fytocell as my media. After seeing some impressive grows with in on another forum, I decided to give it a go. If you want some more information on it, have a read of this.
For pots I will be using air pots that I have modifed, hempy style. The advantage of using air pots is that they have holes throughout the container, thus providing continual air pruning for the roots. Hopefully this, combined with excellent growth seen in fytocell, will produce some explosive growth!
Here is how I modified the air pots so they can be used as hempy buckets. It's really simple - all you need are some cable ties and black bin bags.
I cut out a circular piece of bin bag, and used the cable tie to make it into a base (I also used the base that comes with the air pots, just to take some of the weight of the medium off the bin bag). The holes above the bin bag thus become the drainage holes.
And here it is filled with water, working nicely =)
The Grow
I plan on topping and then flowering the tops. I will then train the females into a vertical circular scrog screen around a 250w cmh (which should be arriving in a week or so), with a hps to flower, as shown above. Temps are about 70F with the 150w CFL and humidity at about 50%. I will run the HID lights at night to help with temps, and hopefully will thus be able to go bare bulb.

The Plants
I've got five sour diesel babies going and I'm on the hunt for a good mother, which I plan on keeping in a PC case which will act as a veg/cloning area. I also plan on keeping a male so I can collect some pollen and create some seeds, as they're so damn expensive to buy! I quite fancy trying some breeding at some point too, but not for a while yet. It will be tricky keeping a male in such a micro environment, but I'll handle that obstacle when the time comes.
I stunted their growth early on by letting the water level in a bubbler tub get too low, causing their roots to dry out =(. I also went away for 5 days and when I got back they were in desperate need of a feed. They perked up though after a splash of floranova grow, here's what they looked like last week. (Two took far longer to recover and were so kept in the bubbler to encourage further root growth).

Here they are as of today - the three that had recovered first have really taken off and are showing excellent healthy growth. They're currently on 600ppm of floranova grow.
Here are the two that were slower to bounce back. Both have shown good growth as well now. One is showing some transplant shock, so I have given it a feed with some superthrive + a splash of rhizotonic and so it should perk up soon.
I need to get some more hydroton to cover the fytocell as algae will grow on it. Here's how the cab looks as a whole, it's a bit crowded - roll on the time that I can flower the tops and chuck the males!
Can't wait till the 250w cmh arrives!
Hope yous enjoy the grow, comments and criticisms are welcome!
