in my router, you can change the encryption (off , wep and some other stuff.)

then you can change the password for the encryption.

I agree about logging into your router and change PW for a long secure one. In fact I would look into a tool like firesheep or similar and hopefully mess with their heads a bit, before I changed the pass.

we run dd-wrt in ours... the home page was always 192.168.1.1... you can change that if you wish... besides the class B private network range 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.255.255 you may use the class A private IP range 10.1.1.1 - 10.255.255.255 subnet 255.0.0.0 as your DHCP and router address.

everybody knows 192.168.1.1 or real close to that is going to be your routers home address... it's everybody's router's home address until you change it.

mix it up. use the 10.1.1.1 nobody will guess that your routers homepage is 10.145.145.145. the best thing is if their PC's IP address is 192.168.x.x and the DHCP server in your router is set to 10.x.x.x they will not be able to join your network even if you tell them your PW.

dd-wrt has a built in traffic monitor, complete with the IP and mac address of each node. <---- means you got that MF'er

most routers should be able to show you who is attached to your network.

WPA2-personal AES encryption with 22 alpha numeric characters with symbols too. Also, we're not broadcasting our SSID. someone would have to know the name of the network just to find the network. the 22 characters is so the "hacker" cannot use brute force. "rainbow crack" (brute force) can easily break a <22 characters PW(given enough time and RAM)

wireshark, aircrack, kismet... all free programs made to hack your wifi.

So many ignorant people name their wifi networks their last name... then name their Windows PC user account their first name... I'm not a hacker but I can tell their first and last name just by walking past their house with my iPhone.

yeah you got to use WPA2 for wirless anything else is easy crackable, and always use passwords such as yG5x!k8Ig2 .... avoid using names aswell look at program called Cain & Able you can play man in the middle with that one and see who it is and what are they doing another great thing to do is if you can switch antena on router switch to less powerfull so that it only covers area you wish, next step is setting up a server with a proxy, so that you can only connect to internet through the proxy you run so even if they get into you LAN they wont be able to use your INET(this is reasonable beacause they might be doing illegal stuff with your IP adress and you dont want police on your door for sharing child porn or hacking into someones computer), so they might loose interest hacking into your network for the sake of accessing internet, if you do online banking and such i'd be worried if you only use it for non important stuff than i'd be less worried

If you don't see any other IP#s other than yours listed in the DHCP table, that means the Internet itself, in your area, is slowed down.

This is more common everyday as ppl get more devices and stream more HD media.

That's why even the cable companies are now imposing bandwidth limits on those who download HD crap all day long.

I think we're all going to have to get by with less bandwidth now, unless you pay thru the nose.

Works for Me!

MAC address filtering.

THE only way to fly! No encryption, no decryption, only known machines are allowed to connect.

I’m sure in this day and age with all the processing power, MAC address spoofing could work. Just depends on what some one wants from ya...

Man, how sad this shit all is. I can't help but think we have gone the wrong way altogether with this shit. We all pretend anything is secure even as we know the NSA and their corporate buddies have us pay for their intrusion. I guess that when one considers who really financed our electronics industry and why, it was never to be any other way.
