Little Diversion

So I haven't been to my other site to get any photos or work on the plants. I did go a few days after my last update and kinda freaked out when I saw evidence of living spider mites. I didn't focus on pictures as I was very obsessively spraying the undersides of all my plants fan leaves and cleaning off growth too low to spray. I got a second type of trainwreck from a guy I know up north this spring that he was going to throw away... from a friend of a friend or something close lika that, and it had spider mites on it. I said what the hay, why not take the cut and go buy a bomb and get over it all. Thats what I did, and I thought things were fine. Obviously those little fuckers got behind my back somehow and I forgot about them. Big mistake. They also somehow got into my cloning dome and spread on some of my AMS and WW x BB clones I had cooking. What a royal pain in the neck. So I sprayed my closet with pyrethrins and my OD plants with neem oil. Best I have for now. WE'll see if this handles the problem or if I need to get me something serious from the grow shop!?!? I have been through this at least once before, and I actually think I had a clone from the same guy. What a bummer a good grower can get all their shit contaminated by having heads over and them constantly reintroducing themselves from people with lesser hygiene habits. Sp basically it cost me like a whole day, but no lose of plants yet, so Im okay with this high cost to obtain name brand cuts here on the eastern seaboard.

Had to take my woman camping up some hiking trail in the mountains, and so I decided to ditch a little babe out there... The sad state of my tent after ripping everything up and getting ready to shut down for the summer. Didn't know they would grow so F it use it up and have some fun right.

Put an AMS in a cup

With some Gorilla Tape to keep her shut... Took it in my pack with a double shopping bag full of soil, vermiculite, guano and castings.

Dug out a nice spot around some rocks where it should get southern exposure. Hope it grows and nobody kills it. I will have to hike there more often this summer!

Until next time :dance013:

Yesterdays gone, July beeming

Just got some time together instead of beating my girlfriend with art and other inanimate objects. I kid I kid. I just some time apart from the thing that wouldn't speak up or shut up, otherwise know as frozen phishy pie. The one I love other then the ganja... well at least theres ganja below the heavens and above the water table, or some other very hard to find place.

I am planning another trip to the spot but these photos from 7/6 will be a good update compared to my runtling little trip to the mountain with infected cargo. Speaking on that matter I feel much better after this aforementioned trip since it looks like my cure did much more damage then the little bastards that got me worked up in the first place. Any remaining mites had been slowed down or removed enough by my over applications of neem the last two trips that I think I will start to lay off and use a more selective treatment method. i.e. more neem but not the double dose I tried in my horror and my fright. It sure would have been nice to have had a bigger sprayer.. like say something with a bar pump on it, and some straps. Ahh well my one quart beast did a lot of refilling and I am happy to start once again slowing drowning my plants in fertilizer.

Something you might not be used to indoors is the luxury of dosing large amounts of low strength fertilizer to your girls. OO laboswk labosk get back on the train and shake your fun baker!!! Anyhow I lost a few fans leaves... but they will be obsolete in another week anyways. Glad I got such a good start with my best first round of non indoor clones this winter. Next year I will veg out more of an army of early OD plants. This is the way to go.. as long as they aren't root bound by the end of May they seem to rekick down and root correctly. Speaking of which lets get to a few pictures.

Here is a shot of the mother WW from GHS. Here you can see a simple tied off lasso of jute. Small point, but this is best because I can not just wind this string around whatever peg I have to stake it to the ground with.

This plant is not growing quite as fast as the Papaya or the best of the best the top 44 (which was just as big, but is growing better, so big tip grow an early strain from seed and veg it for a long time... its little clone sister is much smaller... only waste high)
The Top44 skunk
like I said this is the best of my patch... not too bad for Big Apple bait. This plant is going to explode once it gets over being pulled apart and having its guts ripped out. Kinda had to do it like NorCalBob said you gotta get inside that bitch.

Heres the bent over Early Skunk from the first post. Not sure if I will bent these extra colas over and LST them or perhaps maybe top them... not sure, they seem close to budding, or at least have the most preflower action that I can see, so I may just let them go with what they have on now and take what this gives me.

Q: Does anyone want to explain when they think is too late to pinch back or top a plant? Do you pinch lower if the top of the cola is starting to show preflower hairs and get thick? Do you pinch the top bud and forget about it... its not 12 hours of dark here until mid August I think.

Heres a skywalker in the rain. My only skywalker outdoors.. and the biggest of round two of OD clones. really a big grower

This heres your indoor meant for outdoor plant.. WWxBB. I have a few of these outdoors. Wish they were skywalker the way it is growing slower and less thickly then the others. Maybe it is jsut bread to shoot out lots of branches and thickness will come later.

Hope to have some more photos in the next 48 hrs. Weather should be close to 90 degrees through the weekend and 80 next week. Going to have to double fertilize if it I get out of work early next week.

New pest encountered

New pest encountered

So... life would be perfect except for the "you're a broke bastard" treatment from Miss New YOrk. (Who I might add came over for a one night stand in the middle of me laying all funky)

But da news from Gotham->>

This is the thing I found in my crop I forgot about already. I burned and stomped on what was in the stem. Anybody wanna let me in on how bad my problems are too? (I might add this is a TW from GHS) can't I get some new kick downs next year?

This is the next picture also the most boring. I have stopped pinching near the top and have started pinching off the entire first part of the bu on a few plants. Hard to tell if they are budding or just annoyingly still have preflowers from being a few Genns old. New Technique, did it to all my plants. No biggie. (some are certainly not in flower mode)

This is my cool attempt at a Soma-esque supper crop. Im sure from experience it mill stand back up... but Ive done it before, it just takes vigilance. I thought you would enjoy. This is Skywalker.

This is the WW X BB which still looks like an indoor plant to me. I Hope it fills out and bulks up,, because it has like 60 tops on it.

Can somebody remind me where to change the way my photos display. I hate these individual thumb nails.:woohoo:

Hello Icmag OD readers

This is the plant that cost me, ie had the mites... some TW cut from friend, possible west coast roots. Its really nice compared to its swamp cousin, growing fastest in the last week.

Heres my better WW mum... the other project I mentioned got killed to hell by slugs. Im not putting it up unless I get a request. It was rootbound and dry. That it all. Am thinking it is not liking switch from perfect PH indoors to OD, but that could be Calcium def.

For such a chest high plant the stem is still kinda small. Whatever, I like the smoke, and my bud demands the stuff. Says the coffee and chocolate flavor is really special.

makes you wonder about these early indica stativa hybrids, they certainly don't have the vigor of say...

A skywalker?

Last but not least in the wine department is old TW from 11/10 era. I gave the miracle grow, and the plant did grow. Not sure is the extra stem height is worth smoking, but whatever, its all headies right? Plus I hope it helps overgrow the mold.

notes:
picked dead or yellow leaves
no training this visit
no pruning this visit
Previous pruning or early buds no prblem, plant is in clone stasis
applied KLP mold formula, with surfactant
witness to old ass gopher digger, and gopher, no problems
realized gopher ate my strawberry cough cut in 2009
chipmunk witnessed, doesn't like neem
many bugs, including strange beetle thingie
first dose of open sesame applied... no more budding other then cola

extra July 23 photo

extra July 23 photo

Morning

Heres a photo of my Top 44 skunk. I really like the looks of this guy, as I said before this was a mother I took clones off of. Since its a pseudo semi auto variety I had a hard time with my cuts for some reason. This plant went out in the end of May and got severly sunburned its first week. Dropped lots of leaves. IT took off though and is now about 6 feet tall with 5 main stalks. Heres a picture of the top of the plant, you can see I pinched it back a little late, but liquid nitrogen will give it legs right into stretch and she should be good.

30 July

30 July

Went out to the woods to check on the patch today. Had good weather and a break from womanizing... so I jetted to the spot.

Got some good photos, including an annoying new pest. The second this year. Also, I think I am seeing some PM on the lower leaves of a few plants, which is troubling. I have decided to use baking soda this time to see what happens. I had to wash that of after taking some time to prune the plants some more. In fact this is probably the biggest pruning job I have done all year. It is finally bugging me to see slug chewed branches on the interior that are withering in the heat. I wanted to get anything that was within 24" inches of the soil to discourage further mold harboring limbs as budding begins within a week or two. I am seeing some early budding on a few plants but nothing that special yet. I hop some of my plants that were just pruned at the top nodes grow for at least 10 more days before really starting to kick out the buds. I have over 10 years experience in the area Im growing, and I know plants won't bud until the second week in August. Some early action perhaps from the right pheno, but still, it takes the sun to really make them fill out. I do think this second application of bud ferts is right on time though, maybe this will help them set harder earlier? I am def about doubly the amount of soluble P and K from last year, so I think I will be happy if trouble stays at bay.

Lets start off with the biology quiz I guess... what is this bug? I only found one leaf that was infected, and I removed it and destroyed the material. I hope this isn't a bigger problem just starting.

Heres the reverse side

Since I said this was to show people about pruning and the effects here is a pict of a plant that was pruned 3 days ago, its early skunk, and it could have been flowering, but its racing, so I set it back.

A nice photo of some TW in the light.

Lastly here is the top 44 plant. its getting big!

cheers. any comments welcome.

Looking good. Is that a type of scale (bug) on the leaf ... That'd be my guess.

Mr. Shiva! Om naham shivaya thanks for a comment.

I have no idea what bug that was. My organic habit is really starting to show its effects... hahha. I have lots of bugs in my garden and at least 3-4 types eat on my Cannabis. Just like yellow leaves, disease, and fertilizer problems I do my best to ignore the pain and micro cuts that result from growing in the great outdoors. I use neem sprays a lot so I don't really worry about bugs much. Never had an infestation outdoors because I use neem to prevent bugs. (some S.mites got out this year, but they are in check, and I will spot treat them for the rest of the year)

Currently waiting to get out to my spot in dry weather and apply Liquid Copper to stop some mold Ive been seeing creeping in at the edges and bottoms of plants. Not much I can do, there is a natural source for these fungal problems all around my grow in the wild and I have been in this same spot for too long not to expect a small fight.

IN other news I have been to the spot, but it was at anight and in the rain... after some unknown van and others scared me away from making a drop in the other day. Sprayed some Serenade in the rain... hope it helps.

I also have a sinking feeling that I am infected with TMV, tomato mosaic virus, or some other version of this problem.I have just read the following threads and have seen these issues on a few strains.

Right now I am doing some soul searching and deep thinking before I cull all my newly rooted mothers and start over from seed this winter. I have had some MAJOR trouble with my GHS WW cut for the last year. OD last summer I had decent results with it, and some tasty smoke my friend LOVED. INdoor last winter I saw weird issues I thought looked like CalMAg or PH or some other issue, perhaps bleaching from the light. I now have read enough of the INfirm reports to realize many people would call it a virus. My symptoms are the sane. From what I read WW was named over and over for having this issue. Its sad to me that so many of my plants have been in contact with this mother and in the same veg tent now for a 3 week stretch.

If I follow protocol that I should wipe everything out.... I really like my Skywalker I popped, it is the most fungal resistant and one of my most robust growers this year. Aside from that the Top 44 is really a vigorous grower too, but has been affected buy more fungus.

Im at a loss right now. I just hope to get a good harvest in and chill out. Basically out of buds and too broke to pick up smoke. Oh well at least me head is pretty clear.

Advice? Many people in the TMV threads just said screw it I outgrow problem and love my plants,, want to keep mothers FTW. blek. Problem doesn't stop harvest. Live and let live?

Been growing GHS ww for about 7 years now....and last year decided to get new seeds to freshen up my stock......and to my suprise the phenos were totally different.....I now have two phenos and one gets tall and branchy while the other very robust and needs pruning and tying back....the pics of her look like maybe a bit to much N.....i have had issues with that in their new stock.... less N and more cal/mag during late veg early flower.....trying straight water for a bit and after a decent flush hit with a dose of cal mag. I personally like the light green pheno that has typical x mas tree shape...she is very vigorous and mold resis. The other has those wierd ass 3 fingered leafs and is kinda picky......but is earlier and seems like it will yeild well outdoors....just needs less N and more cal/mag....for me anyways...it also has a more earthy taste and a tad less trichome development. hope this helped a little bit.....any more questions feel free

Hey Jd11/66-

Thanks for the comment. Totally on point old boy.

hmmm Ive been giving lots of N thats for sure. No other plant has the burned tips or any sort of burn.. in fact begging for more every 3 days. I'll get another photo of it in better light. I know what you are seeing... yes theres tips and yellowing. What you can't tell is the eating into on the side of the leaves where the tips are fine, and some leaves with strange yellow mottling. From what I know the disease disrupts chlorophyll production and causes discoloring. you diagnosis is totally legit,, and should be really reasonable,, but Ive no pictures of the plants from the Indo grow to share, but they looked an awful lot like the photos in these disease threads.

What Ive got to say is every other plant Ive got is loving my fertilizer program. Its annoying that this strain is so demanding, makes me say screw it better off with something that isn't so picky. I work too hard to have to second guess myself and bang my head.

Plenty of days I want to say screw it all and just grow Ak47 and sleep easy. But then again..

Are you getting random faded yellow spots That look like some sort of necrosis? I am curious to see more pictures.....As that same pheno of that same strain is giving me the same issues.... Indoor i fixed with adjusting fert schedule and bumping up cal/mag....while ut of 7 strains going outdoor now those 4 of that pheno i have are the only ones giving me any issues....

like you i think im going to replace it with a wonderful pheno of WW from nirvana....shes a true monster and seems to finish in less time....have a few out right now and am loving what im seeing...i also crossed that to a ak47 and that seems no slouch either....
good luck with it all man..i wanna see what the outcome is compaired to mine...i unfortunatly do not have any pics

first the bad

first the bad

Hello-

Well after hitting my spot my mind is still not any more clear then it was when I set out today. I was fearing that some defficiency or fungal problem had spread and wiped out my serious efforts. I was going to lay some Seranade (tm) and Neem (atm) on the ganja. Hoping to ward off any pests that way and stay organic. I also dropped some 50/50 grow and bloom formula. This will be my last neem... and if things look okay I may not spray anymore at all this season. The plants are at about the 7 day of flowering at most according to indoor timline. As usual some buds on one plant are ahead of another yadayada yada... GHS diamond girl in the lead... Mekong sativa filling in nicely...

The ww from GH seeds was ultimately the plant I was concerned with, and if it had gotten worse. I am wondering if perhaps it is a mother that was root bound and has been sensitive becuase of this? Is it a virus? The GHS seeds diamond girl had a half green half lime green leaf exactly like the TMV page I saw. Is this a coincidence!?!?

WW shots

is this plant a finicky tired old girl or is this a disease or fert problem? I don't know.

he rest of the girls are a lot better... Skywalker cola fml

wwxbb starting to go bang... happy, was worried indoor strain would be a lame duck

How old did you say this plant was? It's a clone from another plant right?

The mere fact that the problems don't seem to be on every leaf makes me suspect this isn't a virus or nutrient deficiency. If it was mosaic you'd see it spread to all of the leaves. If it was a nutrient deficiency you'd see all leaves of a certain type affected (i.e. old leaves, new growth, stems, etc).

Some micro/macro nutrients only affect new leaves but you'd see them on all of the newly growing leaves. I'd pick off the discolored leaves and see if it comes back.

Either way, the plant looks mighty healthy. Have you seen anything other than the few discolored leaves?

Hey Closetadvocate- Thanks for the thoughtful queries.

The plant is a clone of a clone of a clone sort of thing. The original mother was from 2010 and from seed. I grew it outdoors last year for the first time, and didn't have any of these issues.

I should mention that this plant was quite rootbound when I planted it... this was a mother over the winter in a sq qrt pot.

Your diagnosis sounds correct to me regarding spreading and disease versus ferts. YEs the effects you see are on the older leaves. The new shoots are healthy. This is a second tier problem IMHO. Not stopping growth or hurting the healthy tops... but climbing up from the bottom and become more widespread with time. You just hope it doesn't climb faster then the plant is growing.

Probably not a virus... but if you look in the TMV threads I posted (I read through them all basically) you see lots of pictures like this.

So I think I mentioned that the Diamond girl from GHS(new this year) had some similar symptoms? It does, and in fact the stress/issue is more of the classic signs... I found a leaf that was with the leaf tips bent out sideways and half the leaf was normal color and the other half was a lighter lime green. Like totally just split down the middle of the longest finger showing some lack of chlorophyll or disrupted photosynthesis of some sort, or thats what I think based on the many disease / fertilizer threads Ive read.

Heres a shot of the Mekong sativa I have growing... thanks for reading and commenting
