hi,neighbors! i just wanted to ask u do u know is there some companies doing this fracking in Romania either,because they want to do that shit here in Bulgaria,near your border and off course near Dunav... do u know about that problem? because they use many workers from your country here and dont tell anybody what they doing. We are a little scared,making protests and i want to know what do u know about that shale gas? I saw some embarrassing movies about that from all over the world and our politics told us that u gonna do that thing in Romania to and everything is finehaha,see what i,m talking about and then pls tell me your input here most of the people have no idea about that kind of drilling and fracking the shales for gas.

A 2011 study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology concluded that "The environmental impacts of shale development are challenging but manageable." The study addressed groundwater contamination, noting "There has been concern that these fractures can also penetrate shallow freshwater zones and contaminate them with fracturing fluid, but there is no evidence that this is occurring". This study blames known instances of methane contamination on a small number of sub-standard operations, and encourages the use of industry best practices to prevent such events from recurring.

I can't say I've heard anything about it happening here. Never heard people discuss it either. They'd probably know if it was on the news, but it's not like the news has any interest in covering a story like this if it cuts into someone's profits.

Basically they pump the fracking fluid down into the ground in order to "push" the gas up. Seems simple right? Well it is. BUT, there have been cases of the ground water becoming contaminated and there are even places where people can actually stick a fire to the water coming out of their facet and it catching on fire due to the gases that are coming up through their well water. Now that's fracked up!

By the way i saw that movie "crude-the real cost of oil" about texaco(now Shevron who have contract already to do it here)and u cant imagine for what disaster we are talking about. World disaster will be the right word here! we,the Bulgarian citizens, won't let this thing happen here,but it is near u too and do u know what-u still dont know wich companies will drill in Romania,You have no idea what i,m talking about,havent u?! Now that's fracked up!

Basically? No your wrong. After the well has been drilled, and casing is in place, high pressure water and primarily sand is pumped down the well. This water and sand forces itself through the shale and creates channels or fractures out into the gas formations. This allows the gas to free from the formation and then flow into the well bore via these fractures or channels.

These gas formations are much deeper than your water wells. However, there have been isolated incidents where people are turning up gas in their water lines. I dont know much about it but i wont comment on that. I do know that these gas formations are 6,000Ft+ down into the earth (Impervious Rock). The water table, water wells, aquifer does not exceed 1000Ft Deep. The fracturing should not be going on at that shallow of a depth.

Also I want to relieve some of your worries and tell you there is an extreme amount of overlook, regulations, and safety that many companies must adhere to. I will tell you from personal experience Chevron is a very safe and clean company. Safety and cleanliness is their high on their list of priorities and they lead the industry in the dept. Years ago, they were very dirty about their ways, in the gas and oil industry. Today it has improved 10 fold. Like I said, there are now a series of standards and regulations, and if a company doesnt adhere to them they wont last in business. Im not saying there arent crews out there that are dirty in their ways and polluting and what not, but if they are still in business they wont last.
I would suggest Ina you do a bit more research into the area you seem so terrified by. Natural gas is a very important resource right now, and if taken advantage of may is capable of relieving our addiction to oil. Do a bit more research before you start the fear mongering please.

Chevron is clean and safe companie?! are u crazy,they already pollute people s water in Amazon and now they must pay 8 billions. The Cort says that,not me! I saw babies with skin damages,people in rainforest,who lives near rivers and dont have water to drink! now that you said about gas getting into the water, it sometimes happens naturally in some areas here. they fix it by installing vents into the ground where gas is burned to prevent
accumulation and explosions. so that must not be that fucked up..
what other substances are used besides water and sand? which is the source of pollution?

They can use more than 700 toxic substances mixed with so many water that we cant imagine,pump this thing with big pressure down and the true is that nobody can say where are they going,nobody can say what is going to happen,this method cant be controlled and it is proof but nobody listen. then when the pumped fluid goes back(more than 40 000 cubic metters toxic water coming down and back after every fracking. What they do with this toxic substance. they about to get it and save it somewhere. where? every time when they frack this is repeating and repeating. where all that toxic shit is going?! i,m not good with english and thats why i hardly reccomand dont listen your goverment when they say the companies control what they doing,see Gasland and offcourse Crude-the real price of oil. that movie by the way is all about Chevron and what they did to the rain forests. i f u see those movies u will understand what they try do do here there will be no water in this areas,u can see that there is no plants were they drilling after one or two years,there is no animals there,nothing. and someone telling me :"it is fine,Chevron is clean companie!everything will be just fine" no,it will be the same as everywhere!
