Are older magnetic ballasts considered more reliable? I have read this and understand that there are some simple to replace parts. Frankly, if my ballast shit on me, I'd rather quick replace a component rather than replace it, even with warranty.
I don't think you can go wrong with either brands current models. As long as they have a good warranty, I'd probably buy whatever brand name my local shop carries.
My warranty claim was handled quickly and to my satisfaction on my 1st generation 600w Lumatek.

I'm buying a MicroMole or Solis Tek
Much more reliable , that's why my friend swears by them . Easy to replace parts, prob just as much $$$$ to buy new though . I think the capacitor or some other part degrades and you lose lumens over time though . Sure someone else can explain a lot better.....
