Even though ISO + Salt will always be the best cheapest method, Grunge Off is amazing for bringing even the most dirtiest pieces looking like brand new again and there is no shaking involved, just soak and rinse off and you can reuse it many times

it stinks but the absolute best way to clean a borosilicate piece is to burn off the tars in a 500+° oven or kiln. cool it down slow and rinse out the ash. viola virgin piece.

this will eventually cause small scatches in your peice, ever seen a really old bong that has a whitish fog like stuff on the sides that never come out? Its from cleaning it with salt.

Didn't know this, I've got an old roor that has just that problem. Makes sense that it's from the salt.

I'm almost positive that is hard water stains not salt scratches

I would agree. The salt will not scratch been using it for years. I mix the salt with IPA/Acetone an d shake it a bit. let it sit for awhile. Works great. Some people use that simple green I dont like using it it leaves that smell in it if you dont rinse it very very well.

I need to find something. I got a bag of super over fertilized weed or something. It left unmetabolized fertilizer salts stuck to my glass. It looks like fine grain sand. The salt and iso won't rinse it out and its pissing me off. I'd think it was grit weed but I know its not.

Since its an inline diffuser bong I really can't force a pipe cleaner into it effectively to scrape it off. I guess I'll try grunge off or simple green. Something must be able to get it off.

Have you tried 100% Acetone. That will usually take off anything that gummy, sticky. Is this hard Motaco? It might need to soak for 24hrs to get it unstuck.

iso and salt has never let me down. vinegar to get the hard water stains, and make it smell/taste clean.

I wouldn't use CLR in my bong... pretty harsh chems in there no? I would have to rinse it 100 times to feel safe

edit: maybe Im just paranoid, I guess they use it to clean coffee pots and stuff. one time I used ph down to remove hard water stains in my bubbler

I said OVER TIME, and it will, like I said, ever seen an older bong? One with white film on it that never comes off? If you dont know whats up dont try to post and say someones wrong.

Ide say best to use would be grunge off and some boiling water, unless your smoking oils, those can be harder to remove, but the hot water should handle it.
