Why are pits the all american dog? Well, they are EXTREMELY athletic, EXTREMELY determined, EXTREMELY loyal, EXTREMELY trainable, EXTREMELY eager to please, EXTREMELY affectionate, etc...

These dogs are working dogs that excel in any activity they are taught. They need lots of both physical and mental excersize. Boredom can easily become agressive/destructive behavior if a dominent dog(that has been given the instinct by man to fight) is not given an outlet for their energy.

In the proper hands, the American Pitbull Terrier can be a perfect dog. But they are certainly not for everyone. Just as a dog in general is not for everyone. Dogs should be bred for temperment, health, and gameness/drive. A dog should not be bred for color, large head, 100+lbs, etc. This only takes away from the integrity of the breed. I know someone mentioned the pitbull who was the most decorated war dog in U.S. history. Not sure if anyone mentioned Bandog Dred, the pit who has earned more working titles than any other dog(of any breed) ever.

I know what you guys are saying about the freak dogs that arent proportionally correct, lol. Most of these dogs here in OK are proportional, there not really the "kegs with legs" types although I have seen a few over 130lbs one was completely crazy, the other named Tank was a mellow weed eating bed dog. Try to relax while smoking a bong with the crazy one growling and scratching the door in the next room over. Honestly I like the smaller buff pitts myself. I live in Oklahoma which is probably the pitt bull capital of the US, thats why their so cheap here, right now I could probably think of 15 breeders just in the small town that I live in, I know that theres more though.
