Pics of, and notes on growing my cannabis

Lookin great CC! I've been watchin your shows for a long time, albeit under a different screen name than now. Really liked seein that Sharon after all this time,Lonestars' stuff always seemed topnotch. But what I was really happy to see was that you're runnin the MOB cut!Being from Maine,I love to see us represented every now and then. We've got excellent herb up here, and the MOB is no exception.I ran a supposed Jerry Berry cut a few years back and they seemed oddly similar in the finished product. Not sure if they're actually the same.I haven't had much luck finding a cut of the MOB to compare yet,but all good things come with time.Good to see you around and posting again, always like seein what you've got going on.

Re: Pics of, and notes on growing my cannabis

Wow! I just weighed, and I broke my own record tonight... One Jamaican haze yielded 15 oz! Not bad for a 3 gallon pot with nothing but coco coir in it. Also, right next to the haze, in the same amount of coco, a Hindu Kush weighed in at 10.5 oz. Daddy is happy. :)

so what bulbs do you use in the T5 ?

how many watts per foot for the flower room, also what reflectors and bulbs do you use ?

TY

I use whatever bulbs came with the light, I believe they're more in the blue spectrum than red.

My calculator just told me that I use 27.75 watts per sq foot.

I use Hortilux bulbs.

My hoods are the simplest you can get... that I know of anyway... The gull wing... I think they're like $35 a piece, just a bendable/adjustable piece of polished aluminum.

No pics right now, but I'll get some up, maybe later tonight. :) I keep wondering what that haze would have done with 10 gallons of coco. ;)

In your first post you mentioned your feeding routine. When you water with the full-strength nutrients do you allow 10-15% to drain out the bottom each time? What about when you use water every third time? Are you full on flushing with the water or are you just adding it until it saturates the container and then letting the plant feed off the resulting "mix"?

Well, depends on what I feel the plant needs. I can feel it needs a little douching sometimes, based on previous feedings, or I may feel the plant is going to be okay getting just enough to keep the medium moist until the next day. I feel there is a much smaller chance of something going wrong when your ppms are kept at or close to 1000ppm at all times, with the odd 1200-1400 feeding here and there at certain times when you want an extra boost... perhaps when bud set is in full swing. Ideally, a plant needs at least SOME water every day (raising temps a bit and/or lowering relative humidity can achieve plants that use water faster, and therefore can be watered every day). Needing to water every day is good, because plants in well-lit gardens are using up their 1000 ppm feedings within a day or so, so a plant that needs water every day can be fed just about every day. This keeps control of the nutrient situation in the hands of the grower. If you're feeding only every few days, there's going to be a lot more guesswork involved IMO. I don't like guessing, I enjoy KNOWING what the plants ate yesterday, and therefore what they'll eat today. :)

My general feed schedule goes like this... 1000ppm (+/- 100ppm) is fed to the plants at 5.7 - 6.1 pH... Fill the tank with water for the next day, and usually the result is a solution of about 500-700ppm (in my particular case). Next day, I can either simply adjust pH and feed at that 500-700ppm, or add nutrient again to get back to around 1000. This is a choice I make every day after leaning in the doorway of the garden, staring at the girls to ascertain what they might need today. So, let's say I decide to simply adjust pH and go with the ppm already in the tank from the day before... done... Next day, I KNOW they had a partial feeding the day before, so I MUST feed today... bam! Back to 1000ppm. This is how I feed, in a nutshell. They get SOMETHING every day. 500ppm of my regular fertilizer solution is a weak solution, but it has every last nutrient the plant got with the 1000 ppm feed the day before, therefore the plant will lack for nothing.

Once every week and a half or two weeks I give a watering of pure, ph adjusted water... the plants LOVE this break from feeding, and then they LOVE the return to full strength feeding they get the day after.

For me, flushing in the pure sense of the word means to water until there's a bunch of runoff coming from the bottom of the container. I no longer employ this method, haven't for years. Now I simply control the ppm of every watering so carefully that once I reduce the ppm of the solution at the end of flowering, they quickly use what little nutrient is left in the container. I still refer to this process as flushing, although a better term might be applied. Maybe, clearing the plant? I don't know, but generally I just step down the nutrient intake.

Now, I'd like to take this opportunity to explain something I have been thinking and doing lately. In the past I thought that the complete stop to feeding plants in the last couple weeks was the way to clear the plant of nutrients, making for a cleaner smoke. I believe I was wrong in this thinking. I now believe a plant needs it's full regimen of nutrients up until a few days before harvest. I'm not saying you feed 1000ppm during the last weeks, but SOMETHING should be given, I like doing 300-500ppm at the end. Reason??? Because the plant needs nutrients in order to use nutrients! hehehe Chew on that logic for a bit. :) It's true... If you stop ALL feeding abruptly, you are also taking away the plant's ability to clear itself properly. Like a human trying to lose weight... If you stop eating all carbs because carbs make you fat, you will eventually run out of energy with which to excercise and burn stored fat. Same deal with plants as it runs out... they need nutrients in order to have the energy to flush themselves. Abrupt and complete stoppage of nutrients can lead to NASTY-tasting pot, because the plant no longer has the ability to function at full capacity, and, therefore, some nutrient or another is left to languish in the flesh of the plant, leading to crappy smoke. A plant can be totally yellow and beautiful-looking, and yet still taste terrible. This is why IMO.

Wow, a very thorough answer. . . thanks! I already use some elements of your routine, while other elements are things I'll have to try.

Unfortunately, the plants I currently have flowering are in containers that are much too large for them, so I'm kinda screwed from the get-go. I'm making the best of it, but I'm definitely looking forward to my next round when they'll be going through the moisture in their containers at a faster rate.

Interesting about the flushing near the end of flowering. . . I've noticed that not all yellowed & "flushed" plants actually taste like they were flushed but I never knew why. Makes sense I guess.

Very Glad to see you around ...

been loving my pbp at 800-900 with c02 in a sealed room (coco, watered daily lots of runoff), less has been more for me lately ... hope to see some pbp buds up from you soon ...

Maybe i'm being paranoid making sure the runoff for the last 2 weeks is under 200ppm but has been the only way for me to get ash white as paper ... I have seen some gray from the tapering down method ... I haven't seen flushing or not affect the taste only the way the herb smokes.

Very Interesting...... I was always kinda skeptical of the WHOLE flush thing, as I've just as tasty weed with little flush, just lowered the nutrients by half. It does not always burn to pure gray ash, but it is close and it just tastes and smells better. I pretty much use organic nutes and soil though nowadays as Ive gotten lazy.
Then again I'm a weirdo..... I kinda believe that the smellier my organic nutrients, the stinkier my weed is. Chicken and cow manure, fish emulsion, worm castings and bat guano are all put into soil, especially for my outdoor. I know that its mostly the strain but, but the crazy part of my my noggin says it helps with the 'funk' some. Ive always wondered if you only watered with a 'flavored' water; say 'berry' or 'skunky' if would effect the smell/flavor significantly. Could be the next great gimmick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Skunk water- $ 20.00/ gallon.
Any thoughts? - and god im high right now =).............

All crops in the pipeline, here, are PBP crops. ;-) they are all doing very well, smelling great, and on track for a superb born/taste. I tasted the juice that flowed from the tip of a removed leaf, tonight, and it was not bitter at all... Which is a great sign of internal cleanliness, considering the fact that I am still feeding them at full strength. They seem to be loving what they are getting. :)

The last time I used PBP, I followed the directions on the bottle and didn't even test pH. Nowadays I won't do ANYTHING without ensuring the pH is perfectly adjusted. I can't stress enough how important control of pH and ppm is. Growing cannabis does not need to be a game of chance... Well... The technical part of It anyway. ;-)

Pictures of my ladies will be coming to this thread as soon as tomorrow.

Thanks Postman. :)

I thought I might do an update today. The wife left me with the kids for half the day... did some yard work, planted some lilacs, collected the eggs from the coop, saw my camera sitting there, snatched it up and went to the other flower garden. :)

These are still 100% Pure Blend Pro. Going very well so far.

These Sour Diesels are IBLs, not the original clone in this case.

The M.O.B. is doing very well this time. And the next one in line (shown at the bottom) is doing even better than this first one. What a bush... huge for just a 3 gallon pot with nothing but coco coir in it. Simple simple simple. ;)

*the calyxes will turn a bluish purple by harvest, and smell strongly of something resembling berries.

Chem #4 is doing well, too. She's a gooey lass! One of my favorites, yield, potency, ease of growing, low odor, she's a real winner IMHO.

Anyhow, there ARE still some good ole friendly faces still around, who I really enjoy seeing. And no doubt there are many, many newer faces with the same good qualities that I just don't know yet. So, since the good fight still has good fighters, I will try to participate more often. :)

As a tribute to the good ole days, I have a special friend to show to you... She's only a young clone at the moment, but the old-schoolers will be happy to see her again...

Sharon Widow... Sharon was collected by Lonestar many years ago. She has slapped many a smoker across the face with her unusual potency. Not many varieties can say they pack SUCH a uniquely potent punch. Even the peachy/sweet/licorice smell is unique, and hints at an unusual chemical profile that is probably responsible for the unusual potency. The resins are extremely present, gooey and stick to your fingers like hot mozzarella on a hotter day.

This is my favorite production plant... Chem 4. She is my favorite for a couple reasons... Low odor, easy to clone, perfect structure (not too stout, not too stretchy), BIG YIELDS, can be harvested on the early side and still be potent and have great bag appeal, and IMHO it has one of the greatest highs of all the well known clones. I know some people completely agree with me on the potency, while others completely disagree. My buddy, Joeshmoe told me I HAD to try her. I did, and at first I didn't like her very much... Then I gave her another whirl, and sparks flew... I finally got it, I understood what he found so good about Chem 4. Thank you Joe! I hope life on the outside is phenomenally happy for you and the family, brother. Please get a hold of me, I lost your info. I've changed phones about a dozen times since I last had your digits... and everything was lost during a factory data reset.

nice on the widow crazy...exciting news...the chem 4 thing...im one of those that doesnt get it...joe told me same thing...i had tried a number of samples from diff growers...good competent growers...wasnt impressed...then i got a sample from spicoli grown by one of his friends...and i was blown away...so i got a cut...turns out some systemic had been used on the clone and it got gnarled up so i never got to finish her...oh well...maybe one of these days i will find what so many people seem to love about her...if no one has passed your message to shmoe i will hit him up for ya...
