What is the deal with silicates in flower?
I've been told by numerous "knowledgeable" people not to use them in flower but no one is ever clear on just exactly why not when I ask them.
Something about it screws up the flavor or something?...
Can you shed any light on this for me SeaMaiden?
Please pardon the threadjack OP.
TIA.

silicates do not bio-accumulate at anywhere near hazardous levels. if you can refute this and prove it, please do...

I can't refute anything I thought my ignorance was clear!
Hence my questions...

I do remember reading an article when I actually had some motivation to figure it out myself(lasted about 20 minutes) that if I recall correctly stated that trichomes basically had a lot of silica in them. At the time, lost and searching, i thought maybe that had something to do with it. who knows
Anyways..
Thanks for the links!

No shit? What EC is this? Looks like it would be like 2.0? That ak must be a heavy feeder. I can't get over 1.2 without seeing burnt tips. Nice plant! Good job man.

Yeah about that, depends on your water, I do have a few burnt tips, nothing major, I've seen burnt tips at 0.8EC, just goes with growing. My AK's are not what I would call heavy feeders, medium I spose. There are people that run a lot higher, I like this recipe because you just run it all the way through to harvest, has low phosphorus, so no need to flush, but I will be next time just to compare results. I do only half strength feed when they are younger.

The reason why we add Silica in Hydro is because it is a missing element that you normally find in soils, Nute companies don't add it to base nutes as it will cause a lockout, (not their fault), your plants will do fine without it, just better with it, I use it for the Silica, but also for the Potassium. Some people do drop it about 2 weeks before harvest indoors.
When growing in soil or outdoors you can't just drop it out of the mix, so I see no need to do it with Hydro, just my opinion.

SO far so good. I see a little more of the spotting but it seems to have mostly stopped. I think I am all set here. Just 3 weeks left on these so I will keep the npk here and lower ppms over the next week. Next hydro run I will have a much better understanding heading into flower. Thank you SO much Seamaiden and everyone for helping me out!:thank you:

Two reasons why I personally prefer to drop it. First, and this is my personal strongest reason/motivator is fiscal. It costs me money that isn't required to be spent.

Second, I find I prefer how the end product burns if I drop it anywhere from 2-4 weeks out from harvest.
