Hey ICMAG,
This is a walk through grow analyzes of a plant that I am currently working with. I am keeping track of it's progress to see if it's a keeper.
Strain name: Meltnow
Genetic tree: Meltdown X Meltdown
(Oaxana landrace X Diesel)
Strain History: Acquired in 2008 the Meltdown is the P1 and P2 of this feminized cross. Both parents came from the same clone stock of the same strain. My goal in selfing this plant was to solidify its positive traits before introducing it into my program.
Vegetative cycle summary: The Meltnow (Meldown F2) grows like a hedge, with minimal interior branching. The main cola of this plant has a thick base to support itself.
Maximum leaf size: From the tip of the largest blade to the base of the stalk the largest leaves found on this pheno were over 14" in length and over 6" wide.
Blade length: The average main blade length was about 5"
Blade width:The average blade width was just under 1"
Blades per leaf: This cannabis variety had an average of 7 blades per leaf
Blade serrations: This cannabis varieties blade serrations are defined, but not prominent.
Leaf description: The leaves of this cannabis strain are large and healthy, the blades separate themselves from the petiole making them appear to be single blades of different leaves. It is my observation that the dominant leaves from this selfing were from the Oaxaca Landrace and not from the Diesel parent, as the diesel parents leaves were more pointed and carried through on the Meltdown parent.
Petiole description: The connection of the petiole to the main stalk did not knuckle, but held a sturdy connection, "horseshoing" when taken off of the plant. At the connections of the blades to the petiole there were seperate sections for each subsequent blade.
Stem diameter: The main stalk diameter is 1 1/8"
Inside the stem: The bilateral branches contain a soft porous material and are not hollow. The main stalk is hollow, which is a good sign indicating that this plant will have heavy nutrient uptake. This plant was a bleeder, producing more oil then an average plant when cut into.
Oil Aroma: Musky with lime hints
Special nutrient requirements:The Meltnow likes a slightly above average Nitrogen feed to support its large leaves and fast growth. It's leaves rarely showed burn throughout its first cycle.
Growth percent increase average:40% a week
Growth description: The Meltnow was a pretty quick grower, with few branches competing for light in the canopy.
Cloning notes: In a Turbo Klone roots were showing in 5 days with strong root systems in 7 days. Clones seem to root in a short amount of time. Clones seem to root in low light conditions. Clones after rooting needed additional nitrogen then others cloned on the same day, under the same reg.
Spraying notes: Does not react poorly to chemical/organic spray.
Flowering cycle summary: The Meltnow was put into flower on the 16th of October, 2011. The expected finish date of this strain is December 28th, 2011, or 10 weeks from the flowering date.
Week One:
Growth rate: 25%
Growth Description: Every branch is headed towards the lights, Still a very fast grower.
Oil Aroma: Pinesol
Special nutrient requirements: Heavy nitrogen feed
Special notes: Light malfunction day 2 ;
Week Two:
Growth rate: ~25%
Growth Description: demanding growth, fast and furious
Oil Aroma: musky pine
Special nutrient requirements: Needs a lot of N, much more then the average plant in flower at this time.
Special notes: Bud sites formed on day 8; stem elongation between budsites on day 13;
Week Three:
Day 17 crystals are already beginning to show
Day 21 and the crystals are exploding!
Growth rate: ~7%
Growth Description: more nugget sites and many more crystals! This week was all about crystal production. 7 more weeks to go (I think)
Oil Aroma: Pinsol funky musk. Starting to smell exactly like it's parent Meltdown. Very strong smell because of how many crystals are on the plant.
Special nutrient requirements: Seems like I need more P and something else.. I'm going to hit it hard with a micro and begin their heavy flower feed.
Special notes: Crystals appear abundantly on sugar leaf on day 17;Crystals appear on fan leaves day 21;
Week Four:
Day 28
Growth rate: ~5%
Growth Description: The nuggets are starting to elongate, crystals are elongating too! Vertical growth has slowed dramatically.
Oil Aroma: Pinsol garlic musk. A little feul, a little lemons, but mostly a smell of an animal and pine trees.
Special nutrient requirements: I believe I hit this with a little too much P a little too soon, causing a delay in growth. More N earlier on next time for sure as well! Going to try Snow storm Ultra a little sooner with this as well.
Special notes: Bud site elongation occured on day 24; Raised soil line on day 28; Should be topped multiple times to increase yields; Does well during temperature fluctuations
Week Five:
Growth rate: ~7%
Growth Description: Nuggets filled out for the majority of week 5
Oil Aroma:Garlic Sweet/musk Pinsol, there is a funk I cant place but it tickles my nose like pepper.
Special nutrient requirements: N/a this week
Special notes: Responded well to MOAB 1/2 treatment boost.
Week Six:
Growth Rate: ~7%
Growth Description: Continuing to fill out, trichromes are elongating and the caylxes are swelling. She needs to be staked!
Oil Aroma: Garlic Sweet/musk Pinsol, that tickle upon smelling is getting stronger and stronger.
Special Nutrient Requirements: Needs nitrogen, hit with a PK boost early
Special Notes: Does better under 0 temperature differential night/day. Very Pest resistant. Staked day 42.
**more to come, I will be updating this weekly please stay tuned**
Week Seven:
Growth Rate:~5%
Growth Description:Nuggets swelling
Oil Aroma:The aroma is turning into a mean trainwreck-esk smell. Its got several layers like an onion, if you just let it waft up your nose it smells much different then if you sniff real hard. Garlicy, piney, almost vinegar .
Special Nutrient Requirement:Needs more nitrogen. Can go past 10 week marker.
Special Notes: Sugar Leaf turning purple on day 46; Bottom branch harvested day 47
