Marijuana use = sexy women?

Does it ever make anyone else irritated that all of the magazines/publications out there that support marijuana usage and cultivation objectify women so much? I'm not saying that ICMag does this at all, I'm talking about things like Cannabis Culture, High Times and Skunk Magazine. The latter in specific I actually purchased a copy of despite the girl posing on the cover, only the read her article and be greatly disappointed. The other articles disappointed me greatly as well. What is up with these 'bongsluts' (to even quote the magazine)?
I don't understand it...

I hear ya Queen, I dont read those mags too often but ya know the old saying sex sells and when you put a scantally clad women in a pic it seems to catch the eye of alot of ppl, males and females, so thats where they are coming from, gotta sell those mags!!...I dont get it either, I mean I do but you would think that having normal ppl in the photos would work too but maybe not.
Didnt realize that just rollin a doob was such a sexy thing, I'll have to pay attention next time I roll a fatty!! ..might get lucky LOL

I definitely know where your coming from Queen. Thats why I stopped buying them but now have recently come to terms with it and bought one. Like Mrs. B says sex sells, so show us some skin, lol.

A woman with a big bag of bud is extremely sexy to me.

That's totally not what I was talking about though. It's fine to have women with weed as long as they're wearing clothes, and not trying to look like a "bongslut" I know sex sells, but if I wanted a sexy magazine, I would get a porno mag. When I buy a weed magazine, I want to read about and look at pictures of weed, not "sexy" women.

Okay, now I speak for myself. As a straight man, I love three things: Women, music, and weed....oh yeah and beer too, but who's counting. If I can get a few of those things at the same time, more power to me! And besides, as anyone can easily tell, the cannabis cultivation community is overwhelmingly male anyways, so of course these magazines are going to have pics of sexy ladies, they're just catering to their audience.

Now I may have started an argument with my girlfriend, oh well.

Here ya go, sweetie! A nice MEDICAL marijuana magazine/web site! They did have one article with Michelle Rainey (sp?- sorry, Michelle) where there were some "hot" pictures of her, but nothing anywhere as blatant as you'd find in "Skunk", as an example. Mostly it is straight-forward discussion of growing, recipes, medical use, strains, etc., not "hot chicks with bud". The site is going through a few changes, but the people are helpful and friendly and there are contests, too. You can get a preview of the magazine at-

http://www.treatingyourself.com/dhtml/issues.php

I know I hate to buy a "pig in a poke", so take a look around the magazine (I believe that the older issues are readable) and the site. You might find that TY is what you're looking for! - Granny

Wow, that's totally awesome. I'm sure she'll want me to go to the local bookstore and see if they have copies there. Funny you should mention "Skunk" magazine, it's that publication that really started her going about this.

i don't think this issue should be limited to just marijuana literature. we're talking about a general culture that's been sexually charged and have basically treated women as sexual objects since long before the view of a woman's ankle was considered pornographic. i am not here to basically defend marijuana culture but it should simply be noted that we're all the same people as the rest of world save for the fact that we love marijuana.

but what does all that mean?

in the grand scheme of things, we shouldn't expect some sort of higher brain function or totally separate ethos within this marijuana culture just because we all shirk the government in some way and/or share an affection for marijuana. sex still sells even if it's not a necessary tool. racism still exists here. we all either eat meat or don't! and sexism will forever be rampant in some form. i think the only way we'll ever see women not be used as sexual objects in this marijuana culture is when the rest of the world stops buying women as sexual objects. there's no way in hell every woman in the world is going to stop getting naked or almost naked for the front cover of a magazine.

however, i think sex so saturates the media that it's not even a selling point anymore. almost every magazine has/had/will have some woman on the front cover. it's like having page numbers. editors see a mock up of a magazine and check to make sure there's no spelling mistakes and the eye candy is available.

i think the only way you'll ever find a marijuana magazine without women as sexual objects is if the conservative christian republican mothers of america start tokin or it's geared toward male homosexuals! the point is, it's still a straight man's world and we like our boobies any and everywhere we can get em.

I totally understand what you're saying, and I agree. This community is mixed just like any other; the only thing we know we have in common is a love for weed.

But I want to know, if we're going to have the scantly-clad hot women, where are the scantly clad men in the marijuana magazine too, huh?

I think there are two types of people. People who want Cannabis to be taken seriously as a God given herb, as the medecine it is and would like it to be legal. They realize there is a war against freedom and a direct assault on people's rights, and try to do everything in their power to educate others of this injustice and how people need to take the issue seriously.

Then you have the people who smoke recreationally only, view Cannabis as drug like alcohol, and use it the same way. These people act like the stereotyped typical stoner. They help further the bad image of herbs because many times they did something stupid while drunk and high...To me, these are the same people who like to see naked chicks with a joint in their mouth spread eagle in front of a Cannabis plant. The two things don't mix in this delicate prohibitionist era, all it does is discredit the legalization movement, by making Cannabis users look immature and stupid. Dazed and confused..

Porn and scantily clad women have nothing to do with Cannabis. I love women and if they are naked, even more,, I like some porn, but I am not turned on by anything that steretypes Cannabis users as stupid, as macho, as ignorant, and dumb horny munchy- munchers.

It's like pasting a naked woman on the US flag while singing the national anthem during a war, it makes no sense and discredits the issue at hand - legalization of a very important and usefull herb, the healing of the nation..

Yes Brainthor, I can see your point, but as a medical user, I kind of resent that "back-door legalization" bit! Cannabis MUST be legalized for medical users- the people who NEED it! Or don't you give a flying f*** that it kills pain for so many people?

Yeah, it would be nice if you could get high without breaking the law, but walk a mile in a medical users shoes (especially when we are out of cannabis!) Take a look at the link in my sig! READ IT! Just the titles would be enough. MS, Alzheimer's, migraine, cancer, arthritis, ALS and SO much more. People with these problems NEED cannabis- you just want it! They NEED it now and, as one of them, I am thankful that MEDICAL marijuana is available. - Granny
