I never said it should be dismissed. I'm saying it shouldn't be accepted as truth without proof. If I come up with some ancient tribe that believed in elves and fairies that have a convincing story of where marijuana came from that involves elves and fairies are you going to believe it because we haven't proved elves and fairies don't exist or are you going to disbelieve it because we haven't proved that they do exist?
I'm willing to accept the odds are in favor of other life being out there but given the distances involved between places they might be. The lack of proof they exist may be that they are bound by the same limitations as us and "Warp" speed is just fiction.
To put it another way I'm not going to accept something is true just because the odds favor other intelligent life out there and someone thinks that they probably have warp drive like technology because they are probably older and much more advanced then us.
Oh okay but two problems, one is you still need the traditional fuel to burn just not as much and electric rocket engines produce less thrust and therefore take much longer. I don't think the problem of distance in space is going to be conquered by going slower.

Well there's the obvious things like solar energy but given the distances involved in space travel there would likely be points where the sources of solar energy are too weak. Also to be practical the solar panels or whatever would need to be able to work with any sun regardless of whether or not the nature of that energy is different then from our own sun. Now if we could somehow manipulate or take advantage of the gravitational forces in space like we do ocean currents out at sea then that could maybe lead somewhere. As I understand it space being a vacuum once you get something going it stays going for a long time because there is no resistance. If we could perhaps find gravitational currents maybe we could use them to propel us in various directions at a high rate of speed without having to burn any sort of fuel? The trick then would be knowing at what angle to launch yourself to get to where you want to go and then when to stop or tap into other currents to modify your course. If one is to believe the knowledge of aliens claimed by things like Roswell, Area 51, etc. I've heard it said that scientists believe that what the aliens related to those places used was based on using gravitational forces.
