Of course the answer is strain dependent, but also environment. I have taken my d star as early as 56 days, generally cause I did something wrong causing it to finish early. When run perfect she goes 70-73 days. Throw up some pics of what u thinks done. Generally for weight u don't want much white hairs left, and almost all the calyx's swollen like they just took some hgh.
The camera is fine just get a little closer so I can see calyx swellage a little better. But from what I saw it looks like u could wait a bit longer for more swelling and yield. I also like to look at the bottom side of the bud, u can really see the swelling of those individual calyx's where the stem meets the bud.
On taking the tops. I love the idea. Its really the way it should be done. Just that if ur going to reload, most of the time it makes good economic sense to harvest the whole thing and reload. It might stress them a touch but u should be so close to the end that a little stress like that will just help the rest of the plant finish that much faster.
If the tops are done, by all means harvest them. Most people just look for the happy balance of the tops being a little over, the bottom being a little under, and the middle being just right. Like I said though if reloading isn't priority, then to get max quality and max yield for one specific run, its best to harvest bud by bud as they finish.
When a plant is done it will drink less generally.
By looking at the bud it will look dull white. If it glitters like a diamond ring it needs to go longer.
I have had some strains that still have white hairs when done. But they could still swell but I was afraid of bud rot so I took them at 70 days.
If you take early the will give more of a head high. If taken later they will give more of a body high. This is a general rule to use but is not always correct. Question is which do you smokes want.
I'm taking the current lights to another room to veg some ladies. That room still has a tray in it, and I can't do anything about it. Both rooms have to stay 12/12 for a bit, and I don't have plants ready to go in... I could have had a few ladies ready, but I want to start a rebuild while I wait for these next few trays to finish. Planning on a barebulb tree room of some sort. I need to get the floor fixed and pond liner laid down in there as well.
I have had the best success drying large parts of the plant, and trimming dry. Not sure if drying individual colas and trimming dry will provide the same results, but I'd assume so.
I literally could care less about the smoke/high. I'm looking for weight, smell, and bag appeal. How potent it is would only help it move if I were getting it tested, something I'd like to do in the future, but currently unnecessary.
I always find it funny, people never come back for the strains I think are the most potent, they always come back for smell and bag appeal. I can't help but just laugh and give them what they want. It's the only reason I keep running that Skunk Haze... Shitty to trim, fluffy as shit, smoke is decent, but the SMELL. Serious skunk that will permeate a room the moment you walk into it. People just can't get enough.
I've also noticed my tops tend to get the claw, I think this is because ...
It's because the top leaves curl down to catch the light on a vert grow. If your top bulb was above the top bud you'd probably find that wouldn't happen.
When a plant is done it will drink less generally.
It's hard for me to judge how much they are drinking because my runoff goes directly outside. I can definitely tell when they need more, but when they need less can be a bit more challenging unless I'm around to see runoff during the light cycle, which isn't often as the lights are on from 8pm-8am.
Good smell is important but why give a weak high when you can have both? Is another week that important after the amount of time already spent getting it to the point it is?
You can have both.
