I collected 5 Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars from the wild today, and I am gonna raise in a Mason Jar with holes in the lid.

The little devils eat a lot and then they spin a beautiful green jade and gold chrysalis. After they hatch, I let em pump up their wings and fly off to Mexico for the winter.

Here's the fattest, biggest one.

I don't think they liked the flash photography inside a Mason jar! The flash was pretty bright, so after I took the pic they looked stunned and didn't eat for 3 or 4 seconds... LOL They are gonna just eat all day and nite too. Eatin Machines!

I hope I can keep up with their demand for Milkweed Plant!

I love mocharchs...I haven't seen a lot this year. There's a beautiful botanical garden around here that does a buttlerfly release every year...I should make it a point to go next time Awesome Lola...butterflies are sweet

The tatterpillars are all sleeping, hanging upside down. I hope they are sleeping... lol.

I did put holes in the lid.

The 2 littlest are TWICE as big as yesterday! WOW.

Got some good news for ya.
Ever see an albino Monarch?

I call my yard, Butterfly ranch.
Got an "Orchid tree" and "Butterfy flowers" so we have Many Merry Monarchs, mostly orange n black.
'round here, I see individual white ones all the time.
There's one now! On the wedding arch;


Just last week, I saw 2 white Monarchs mating in flight.
Then saw the female laying eggs on my Orange tree.
!
Have suspended all sprays and annoyances waiting for the hatch.
Probably lose the tree, but white Monarchs will be a lot less rare, I hope.
I'll let da kittypiggles free-range and take a few chrysili indoors to film the emerging debutants.

Neato! Never seeen that before.

I have seen an entire 100 foot tree covered with migrating Monarchs though. It was the wildest thing I ever saw. Probably 2,000,000 Monarchs on one giant tree resting for the night on their way to Mexico for the winter. It was neat, I'm still talking about it for 30 years... lol

I went to mex one year when the monarchs were there. I remember thinkin HOLY SHIT the trees are all moving. the trees were completely covered, every part. never seen anything like it.
