Lets just ban the States all together, this is getting a little out of hand. The Starbucks thing is still kinda shaky. Las Vegas as a whole, its going to far. Its so spread out they wont even fill it. Point it at MGM if you will. I'm not boycotting shit until both sides of the story are told, if we want to be treated as rational people that mean no harm we need to be rational people that mean no harm. Karma, One Love

i thought it was kind of crazy to do this in nevada anyways

do something like that in a state with more lax laws

just sounded like a bad idea from the start at that location

p.s. vegas sucks anyways, when i have to go out that way for work i go in, bang out the work, get the f* out, then head towards joshua tree area for some hiking, vegas can kiss my booty, screw that place...so yes i am biased

This is very interesting, but evidently Mandalay Bay is playing host to the CHAMPS Trade Show (from the website: the only trade show dedicated to the tobacco accessories, specialty retail merchandise, clothing, and all aspects of the gift market along with the best hand blown glass in the world). CHAMPS is one of the largest U.S. tobacco accessories dealers show and is being held on March 2, 3, and 4, 2010. I wonder why CHAMPS is cool and Cannapalooza is not?

I don't know what this Lou guy was thinking trying to hold a marijuana convention in Las Vegas, or in Nevada period. Nevada is openly one of the most strict states on marijuana. Lou should have been smart and held it in LA or San Francisco--if he lost a lot of money that was just because of a poor decision in geographical planning. California is openly the most lenient on marijuana laws, this convention would have been a huge success and most likely could of become annual.

Yea, thats why we're allowed to grow up to 7 plants and posses an oz. as a patient. I've been pulled over countless times with mj as a teen, and the worst that happened, was he stomped on it. LV is moving forward... slowly but surely. This was just a tad too fast.

Oh ya, and go ahead and boycott MB. Like that will do shit. UFC and asian tourists will just have to find somewhere else.

I must just be missing the point. I don't see how having a huge head shop convention in Vegas does anything toward "gaining acceptance of medical marijuana and this 'hot-button' politcal issue" anyway. The guy who stated that "potheads don't buy a lot of booze and gamble", is right. Who cares about Vegas anyway? It's just a huge degrading dump run by the mob. And calling for all these misdirected boycots for every little percieved corporate snub is just stupid and only serves to weaken the cause. There was no reason to boycot Starbucks, they have no anti-pot policies at all. That was just some store manager being an asshole. Now if a rally was cancelled in Frisco or on a campus or something, I could understand the outrage. But IMHO this is all just trying to spark a flame in unwarranted territory and does nothing more than weaken the resolve of those who might be on the fence about taking any action to further the cause.

Been to the airport, that's all i needed. Never had a want to visit Las Vegas. I feel no need to visit a place where sin is glorified. Last time a city did that they got sulfur rained down on them. I'm not turning this into some religious debate, I'm just stating my personal view. Las Vegas, you have been zapped! :joint:

Las Vegas was a dumb place to have this event anyhow.

Vegas is for large corporate events, and bad gamblers.

I for one love Vegas, I leave with a few thousand in my pocket and a free trip every time.

I play a LOT of poker though, I also just drink coffee.

Please read this thru!

You people are missing the point. These boycotts aren't just about punishing corporate malfeasance, although that too is a very legitimate issue because these corporations and LEOs are making THEIR points very clearly: They are intolerant when it comes to marijuana, and very hostile to our community in general.

This is what we are fighting for: Tolerance and acceptance of our community, as part of the greater community of Americans.

In order to accomplish that, we must do what other "minority" groups have done, especially recently. What we must do is RAISE OUR PROFILE, so that we can be counted. Once business and community leaders see how many of us there are, and that we refuse to accept their intolerance, and that such intolerance will COST THEM DEARLY, we begin to make OUR POINT.

We cannot continue to allow ourselves to be treated like second-class FELONS just because we use marijuana medically, spiritually or recreationally.

We cannot allow corporations and communities to stifle our business ventures.

We cannot allow LEOs to raid such businesses, confiscate all their property and arrest the employees and business owners, over and over again.

Don't you ppl REALIZE WE ARE OPPRESSED? Until we fight back, with what limited tools we have, we will continue to be oppressed.

Boycotts are one of the BEST and only effective tool we have as consumers in this society where Big business runs our government.

They need our money, but why support corporations & communities that don't support us? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

What everyone seems to forget here is that BOYCOTTS, if they work, don't LAST! They END, at the point where the company either makes a statement that they have got the message and will change their ways.

So it's not like YOU ARE HARMING ANYONE. They are the ones harming us. They can change their tune anytime, and become more tolerant of cannabis users.

THEN WE can ALL VOW TO SUPPORT THAT COMPANY, and then they can get more of our business, and then we show thru positive action what our community can do for business if they support us.

Any boycott can end in a day, but without a boycott, we remain silent victims of our own apathy.

Peace,
Skip

P.S. I hereby vow that if the Mandalay Bay reverses it's decision, I will go there myself.

For the less paranoid crowd and legal med patients;
Here is a way to send the mayor a message. I wrote and told him there are people planning to boycott his city and voiced my displeasure with Mandalay Bay's decision and the attitude of some of the city's official agencies. I pointed out this was the only activity that I would have attended this year in Las Vegas.

I'm still waiting on my reply from the mayor.

Does anyone here know if the Convention and Visitor's Authority is the largest 'official' visitor's organization. I'd like to write the city's visitors bureau but I'm not positive the LVCVA is who to contact.

Skip~ I don't mind exercising my beliefs by means of dollars spent... if I don't particularly care for a place/service/product/company, they don't get my money & their competitors do.

BUT, this is entirely anonymous on my part. Even if it goes to a filed complaint w my name, it is only one person & generally gets round filed after the 'complaint in box' gets filled. Even as a small group of people, the overall economic impact to giants such as SB's & MGM is relatively small.

Here's my contention w these organized boycotts... they are entirely anonymous... how do SB's or MGM even know members on this forum are taking this effort? Unless picketers are circling the front of their businesses, they just won't know.

And motivation to actually rally is slim, stoner or not.

Sure, don't spend your money there, but will it actually drive them to make a "statement" altering their position.

Shit, even on less controversial items, say not killing people with your product, effect to actual policy/corp. culture takes major press.

Not trying to kill momentum on a good idea, but in reality...??? Call me a pragmatic optimist. Peace.

A group of guys who I play an MMO with from around the world were planning a trip to Vegas this summer. We had over 50 guys commit so far not counting the significant others coming with most of them. When all said and done we are expecting to have about 150 people in our group.

Mandelay Bay had got the most votes from our group as the place we should stay. So last night I suggested to the group that we not give them our business. To my surprise we all seem to be in agreement.

Now today I checked in and the talk has shifted to moving the trip to another state all together. The talk was about going to Florida and spending money on the amusement parks rather than gambling. But I suggested Cali and they seem open too it. However I am east coast and they are trying to ask me where in Cali we should look. Man I don’t have a clue where we can take a 150 people. But I can say Vegas now seem to be totally out of the picture.
