Hello all,

Not an issue that LEO has to get a warrent... at some point in time, this can ability to monitor a persons internet activities can be perverted into a data mining campaign.

The insidious erosion of our 4th Amendment rights.

And those (in the U.S.) that are not outraged are not paying attention.

Complaciency is kin to appathy.

But hey, I think it was the military industrial complex that assinated JFK so...

Yeah ...before Napster went down And RIAA started tooting thier horns.Everyone who mentioned that one day Napster would tumble and dl'ing/sharing files would be a big risk,...you got balked at. ANd it happened quite quickly too. Along with alot of other great p2p networks,Napster went down.
Hell, ....you cant even get a decent torrent file these days no matter what the private tracker.
There used to be a time when john doe didnt have to worry about getting jail or a hefty fine for downloading a few mp3s off the internet..Not so anymore.
And it now is the beginning of a time where we lose control of our internet, just like they wanted it back when AOL started.
Face it people...its over.

I just cant believe that some of our members with all of their knowledge, thinks that this is a joke...or simply Paranoia.
That really concerns me that any american who takes the risk to grow what they need to survive, would take this subject so lightly.

This has been coming on since the internet was concieved.
It was unrealistic to think that this wouldnt happen..especially after 911.

This will be my last post in a forum of any illegal nature/subject.
I already decided after 8 years of prison, that I rather dislike being behind bars, enough to use some common sense and bail out before the sky falls!

So ....to all real members...its been great ...I love ICMAG,...some of the best people Ive met in my life are on these forums....and Ive learned so much from so many of you

, anyway... I'll miss you all, but I gotta go with my gutt on this one and be safe.

Take care of yourselves brothers and sisters, and steer clear of the oncoming truck!

It also means that the govt will now have the ability to monitor for other illegal activity, like buying prescription drugs from Canada, browsing and purchasing drug paraphanalia like bongs, pipes, etc., or perhaps even forums or chatrooms of leftist or other radical organizations
...........

is this a global threat or just for the US?

Did anyone bother asking the question.. when was the last time you heard the FBI bust small time pot growers?

In as many words yeah :p

I really dont give a toss about this bs, I strongly believe it is aimed for commercial growers that are already under suspicion but the cops don't have enough evidence to bust them so they get a warrant to tap their internet activity to see if they land themselves in the shit.

This is scaremongering at it's best imo and nothing for small scale growers to worry about.

I really feel like this issue is getting spun out of control by lack of understanding. How many people actually went and read the CALEA act (or the summary). It says that all service equipment put in place after 1995 already meets the standard, and that the 5/12 deadline is the date in which all of those legacy systems must be brought into compliance. I can assure you 95% of service providers are not using switches from 1995, that shit is obsolete and end of life. So, the capability is most likely in place and has been for some time. So really, what's new?

See signature line. Peace to All.

So if I call my ISP and ask them if they have the equipment in place, will they have to be truthful about it or what? Or is this like the deal with librarians being forced to give up customer files and have a gag order placed on them about it?

I am now using a proxy... a little slow... but worth it. You have to . It is just a matter of time. One or two busts will be all it takes to scare the shit out of everyone.

hey king right on thx for the heads up unsure where your at or from but around here where i live. they are more interested in meth labs and dealers not small growers, i mean dont get me wrong if some1 who grows dose meth also chances are he'll get poped. but the average low key grower they wont even waste time or funding on it

It's just for the US.
If that.

Frankly the whole thing sounds a bit like a Chicken Licken story (go on google it :) )
Just what are you suggesting kingmaker?
That every American crawl under a rock right away, and never, ever, dare show his face to the light again?
Isn't that just what the Prohibitionists and assorted DEA pervs would like?
Is that what YOU want?

Is your fear more important than your life?
So all Yanks should immediately stop posting anything about MJ? I'm sure Walters would agree totally with your post!
You do know who Walters is don't you? Hmmm.... I guess you do.

As quite a few people pointed out, there are a lot of sensible measures that one can take on the Web, including use of proxy servers.

If you're really worried, and believe that you are justified to be, then learn more Internet skills. The Internet will NOT be tamed by a few dying-breed fascists, it's out of the bag now, no going back.

OK, you might have to do a bit of work, but go on, don't be lazy, no excuse just cause you toke, LOL!

I am probably abit wrong on this but.... When you log on to the internet don't you have to go through your ISP to get to the proxy server then to the info you want to view? If this is the case won't they just hit your initial log on, follow your info to the proxy and then still be viewing what you are seeing when it is returned through your proxy to your ISP connection and then to your screen? If wrong and like I said, I probably am, please correct where I am.
In the mean time, here's something for them to look at, hehe.
that is true but thats why I said a good proxy site its very hard to track stuff... I'm not to worried. I mean all this says is its legal now.. even though they have been doing it for a long time.. I got popped with stuff back in the day from them monitoring my isp.. didn't have to do with herb.. but that was about 6 years ago... so its no diff then it was at that point in time... how do you think they caught all those people back when the riaa thing was such a big deal.. by bugging their Isp.... just take the neccesary precautions and you should be fine.. its just like a terrorist tatic.. just to scare the people of their own country.....

this is nothing new. this type of technology has been aorund for a few years now. with the addition of the data mining. I benchmarked some of these products in 2005 like Network Generals Infinistream and CA's Network Forensics. They are basically network VCR's with a huge databases of information to be mined. The data mining features allow complex search functions to be made simple. Ex. type in "white mercedes" and whether you wanted images, text or both, will search however far back the storage has retained.

This can be defeated to some extent. Its almost impossible to hide anything. Try to remember to encrypt your most delicate information when sending across the internet with upmost care. When sending data to and from, when possible, transfer your data in a tunnel with encryption and a GRE tunnel or even ssh to host. Its obvious your hiding something but, its also obvious someone is looking. Stay Safe.

Better dust off those tin-foil hats freethinkers, cuz they coming to get yoooooo

Paleeeze....

This quote ..."the govt will now have the ability to monitor for other illegal activity, like buying prescription drugs from Canada, browsing and purchasing drug paraphanalia like bongs, pipes, etc.,"

prescription drugs from Canada... I hope you've got your tongue planted firmly in your cheek when you were typing that shit cuz thats funny. Gee, ya think I should warn my grandmother and the countless seniors and other ordinary people who have no choice but to look to our northern border to supply them with the affordable meds that they desperately need.

I'm not even gonna touch the browsing and purchasing.. paraphanalia (sic)
Thats just downright silly. silly

I still can't figure out if GETAWAYMONKEY was being serious.

I mean talk about the public relations coup of the century. LEO must be kickin himself. If he only knew that all it would take is one press release on Digg and all the growers would police themselves. LEO can just kick back watch.

Log off, up-root, go dark.....

"THEY SEE WHAT YOU SEE"

I personally would give my left nut to see the look on LEO's face when he pulls up my screen. Czech chicks using vacuum pumps to pull their anus outside of their body, a little German fisting, maybe some scat... come on folks, think about it. "What's in your wallet, er computer"? Porn baby, porn. Thats what's on all our computers. nuff said

here is my prediction for the worst case scenario. leo starts busting a bunch of small time growers by radomly, or whatever, tapping isp. then every weed site in the world starts using pgp type encrytion for everything on their sites. you want to log on to icmag, first you need to register and upload your public key, then everything that icmag sends you, every bud shot, every dancing happyface gets sent to you encrypted with you public key. now i'm not a comkputer geek so i'm sure someone will point out that why what i've sudgested won't work but you get the idea. a soon as leo changes his tactics we will adapt ours and the weed comunity won't be alone in this. the porn comunity will probably lead the way. no one wants the government to know what kind of porn they jerk off to.

Funny.. encryption? .. and that will protect you from leo posers how?

If they did start busting people from internet sites that would pretty much spell game over. Back to the days before they had internet [ yes some of us did grow back then.]
