Police raided Fleet Systems and Inda-Gro Induction Grow Lights, businesses on Federal Boulevard just after 9 a.m.
A security guard at the dispensary was arrested for carrying an unregistered gun and carrying cocaine.
Acting on neighborhood complaints, San Diego police served a search warrant at the dispensary, then moved to the grow operation.
The landlord of both locations, Darryl Cotton, owns the grow light company next to the dispensary. He explained the dispensary has nothing to do with his business and they’re just tenants.
“If your tenant is not getting a conditional use permit, then you could get tied into this,” said Cotton.
As of January, Cotton explained his neighborhood was rezoned and the rules were changed. He says he wasn’t made aware of the new license requirements.
Cotton grows around 300 plants on his property.
“There’s three licenses for us,” he said.
He argues his type of license allows him to grow one pound of marijuana for every five pounds of crops he distributes in the community.
“It’s a practice and we go by sustainable gardening systems that allow us to reuse the water,” said Cotton.
Narcotics detectives seized more than 200 cannabis plants and arrested Anthony Garcia, 22.
Garcia was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of drug offenses and being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition. His arraignment was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
