I can't get high from eating edibles

You can simmer for 30 minutes up to many hours. A couple hours should be enough.

I made some stuff last week from vaporized material and low quality nugz... spread some butter on some bread and was TOASTED.

Woah.

Went for a drive without thinking about what I ate 30 minutes earlier.

Oh man. Big trouble. Lucky to have made it home.

I've had edibles cripple me for a whole day. Either not using enough herb, quality of material too low, or high temps either simmering it or cooking it into something, I have butter in my freezer that I'm scared of...and I have the most established head I know. Last to crash on an Indica high and Last to freak out cause a racy haze is making my heart beat too fast, DNA's Sweet Haze does that to me, I was buggin'.

Its weird, some people get the highest of their lives from eating it and others don't feel anything at all.

I think most of this has to do with how the medibles are made as opposed to people's unique metabolisms. Sure some people might be missing an enzyme or two to be able to properly digest cannabis or maybe have problems digesting fats in general, but the way the product is made has a big impact on the effects it gives.
Some people don't use potent enough trim or not enough of it. Some people don't leave it on long enough for the thc and such to be thoroughly extracted or cook it on temps too high.
Baking with canna butter is a bit different than regular baking in that it tends to burn easier, so lower temps are needed as well as good bakeware or some of the potency can be lost.
Another thing is are size and tolerance difference.
We aren't all made equal. My patients scrip is a lot higher than mine and I really do feel the difference.
One of the reasons why canna treats are constipative is because they dehydrate us unknownly. This is one thing that has surprised me is how much cannabis digested can dehydrate the body. I've always known alcohol does, which is one reason why i don't drink but I didn't consider digesting cannabis to be so until recently. Maybe this is one reason why I feel so hungover the next day.
They are great meds for insomnia. Just try and remember you ate them so you don't go off driving. Oh that is bad news.
I can relate to this.
For the most part, I get too high off my medibles which can last for hours. It gets a bit long for me which i don't like.

How to make Dried Activated Cannabis Capsules without any mess

Preheat oven to 225F and let the temperature stabilize. It is important to make sure your oven is at the proper temperature before adding the cannabis.
Prepare the cannabis realizing one double 0 capsule (size 00) contains .2 gram dried cannabis without tamping and about .3 gram with the tamping too. My suggestion is to use leaf/trim/shake or immature/harsh bud for capsules and save the good bud for vaporizing. Dry the cannabis thoroughly before grinding.
When dry, put the cannabis in a food processor (like a Cuisinart) and grind it up to the max. It will be a rougher grind.
Take the rougher grind out to the food processor and pulverize it to dust in a coffee bean grinder. Turn it to dust or at least small enough to easily fit in capsules. Some think this pulverizing to dust may lessen improve digestion particularly in persons with irritable bowel or malabsorption problems.
Transfer that to an oven-worthy dish (like a Corning Ware casserole dish with cover). Rake the cannabis dust with a fork to get it evenly distributed on the bottom of the dish to improve the odds of cannabis getting to the right temperature for activation
In the pre heated to 225F oven, place the cannabis mixture for 20 minutes or longer. Set a loud timer. Sources say 10 minutes at 210F to 220F will decarboxylate (remove the carbon dioxide or-COOH or ââ,¬â?oCO2) from the raw cannabis and make it more potent. The extra time is arbitrary so all the cannabis (even the material insulated in the middle) gets hot. NOTE: I have only done this for small amounts of cannabis so more cannabis might mean more cooking time with some stirring to get an even temperature distribution. There is no cannabis smell in the kitchen at this low temp until you lift the lid and get a little whiff of a vaporized terpene. If you are not sure about your over temp you can put an oven thermometer in a dish. Just keep the temperature about 225F. WARNING: If the oven gets too hot, you will vaporize your cannabis and ruin it. At extreme temperatures, you might even ignite it. This is making medicine, so please pay attention.
While the cannabis is activating, set up your capsule rack. I use one from www.cap-m-quik.com but they are sold at many health food stores where natural herbal medicine is offered. My capsule rack is for 50 double-0 (00 capsules and this seems a good size.
Remove the hot activated cannabis from the oven and pour or spoon it into a room temperature (not hot) dish that wonââ,¬â"¢t burn you (a glass serving dish is fine.)
Make the capsules from the dried activation ground cannabis just like you would from any dried herb. Use the tamping tool to pack it in, if you want to raise the amount of cannabis contained in the capsule from about .2 grams to .3 grams.
The ideal dose one swallows will depend on the quality of the cannabis. It is always easier to add more medicine than it is to take it out once you swallow it, so ââ,¬Å"start low and go slowââ,¬Â. An average dose might be on capsule every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain or spasm. They work faster (30 to 60 minutes) and better if taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before eating or 2 hours after eating. An empty stomach and a big glass of water gets it into the small bowel rapidly without belching or bad aftertaste issues like some mention with oil capsules.

RECIPE 2

*This one uses s ightly different procedure to achieve similar results. I kind of like the idea of Coconut oil, which I already know is great stuff and which helps the thc molecules bind to the receptotrs in our bodies.
Again, attention to getting exact temps etc. is detrimental to good conversion.

Marijuana in capsule form
by Martin Martinez, author of The New Prescription - Marijuana As Medicine

For patients concerned with the possibility that smoking medical marijuana may have harmful effects on the lungs, and for those who require a maximum dose of medicinal compounds, oral ingestion of marijuana is preferred over smoking or vaporizing. However, some patients have had unstable or unsuitable results, so we offer this detailed explanation and simple recipe.

When marijuana is eaten rather than smoked, the human liver produces natural cannabinoid metabolites that enter the bloodstream, creating a stronger effect than when cannabis smoke is absorbed by the lungs. The common technique of baking marijuana in brownies or other foods is effective, but unpredictable. The medicinal cannabis compounds are melted into the food when cooking, so the absorption of the herb is complicated by digestion of the food. Therefore, the optimum medicinal benefits are easier to predict and manage when marijuana is cooked with coconut oil and packed into gelatin capsules.

THC, the most powerful medicinal compound in cannabis, is available by prescription from licensed physicians. But most patients who try Marinol discover that it is far too psychoactive. THC is only one of a handful of cannabis compounds that work together harmoniously. For example, it is known that Cannabidiol (CBD) has sedative effects that offset the stimulative effects of pure THC. That is a part of why pure THC pills are known to overpower the senses. In order to get the optimum medicinal benefits without unwanted side effects, all of the natural cannabis compounds should be taken together as nature intended. Thus these homemade "Mari pills" are far superior to pharmeceutical Marinol. Plus, at a cost of up to $12 per tablet, Marinol is much more expensive than pills made from the natural plant.

Commonly, patients use marijuana leaf for cooking and flower tops (buds) for smoking. This practice is often based on frugality, as marijuana leaf is usually too harsh to smoke, yet too valuable to waste. But, as explained above, cannabinoid compounds such as CBD are more of a sedative than a stimulant, and because marijuana leaves usually contain a higher percentage of CBD than THC, eating cannabis leaf can make one especially drowsy. This recipe calls for the use of quality cannabis buds and leaves mixed together. Patients must experiment with different quantities of bud versus leaf to discover the ratio that works best for their specific conditions.

One of the drawbacks of eating marijuana leaf is the common complaint of stomach irritation. The top side of cannabis leaves are coated with thousands of microscopic thorns, and these sometimes cause minor intestinal irritation, even after grinding. For some patients, the use of leaf in Mari Pills is not tolerable, and in such cases, the use of buds alone, without the addition of leaf, is preferred. Note: the small leaves found in the marijuana flower tops are not as difficult to digest as the large "fan" leaves that grow from the stems. Also, the small bud leaves are far more potent than the larger leaves required for photosynthesis. As a general rule, the smaller leaves growing closest to the flower tops are closest to the plant's resin glands, and therefore have the greatest amount of medicinal compounds.

The ratio of bud versus leaf used in these pills affects the values of the recipe, I.E.: leaf tends to grind down to a more powdery consistency than bud, and leaf tends to absorb less oil than does bud, and so the exact details of this variation must be determined by personal experience. The quantities recorded below will fluctuate with differences in the type of marijuana used.

Especially for those with tender digestion, all marijuana must be ground to a fine consistency before cooking. A new coffee grinder that does not contain coffee residue is preferred. First, using scissors or by hand, remove as much of the stem material as possible. Stems have NO medicinal value, and eating hemp stalk is likely to irritate the stomach. If the marijuana contains seeds, they may be included, as hemp seeds are highly nutritious, but again, they do not contain THC, CBD, or any of the other medicinal compounds found in marijuana. All material must be dry. Grind the herb to a fine consistency.

Cannabis compounds are oil-based and do not mix with water, but they boil at 392 degrees F. Cannabis compounds bond with fatty compounds when heated. While many types of vegetable oils may suffice, we find the best results are obtained using coconut oil. Coconut oil has been shown to have powerful anti-viral and anti-fungal properties

One half ounce of dried and cleaned marijuana ground to fine powder in a small coffee grinder equals about one half cup of powder. Set the half-cup of green powder by the stove. Use a very small saucepan. Add 3 or 4 tablespoons of unprocessed virgin coconut oil. Set burner on medium, and use a candy thermometer (up to 400 degrees) to bring the oil to a temperature of 350 degrees. Note: the temperature of heated oil generally rises about 25 degrees after being removed from medium stove heat, so remove from stove at about 325, then wait a moment until the temperature peaks and begins to fall. When the oil reaches 350 degrees add the entire half-cup of powder all at once. The oil will sizzle slightly as the reaction takes place. Stir thoroughly, making sure that the powder and oil are completely mixed. (Do not use thermometer for stirring because it might break.) If the mixture is not pasty, then carefully add more green powder or oil. (Only use enough oil to saturate the green powder to a dark green paste. Too much oil makes messy pills-too little, and the cannabis compounds will burn instead of bonding to the fat content of the oil.) Mix thoroughly, then return to burner on medium heat. Watch the temperature. Continue mixing until the paste looks more oily at about 300 to 325 degrees. Those who have used non-smoking marijuana vaporizers will recognize the smell of vapor trails that rise at 300 to 325 degrees. As soon as the vapor trails appear strongly, remove from heat and mix, then set aside to cool. (Accurate temperature control is most important. After heating, the paste should still be about the same color. If the paste has turned rich brown instead of dark green, the product was overheated and the majority of medicinal compounds were lost.) Let the paste cool below 100 degrees before packing into gelatin capsules using standard herbal gel cap machines available for under $20 at most health food stores. This recipe makes about 50 of the large size gelatin capsules. Do not use vegetarian gel caps that can melt from exposure to vegetable oils. Pills stored in a freezer will maintain potency for many months.

Common doses are in the range of 2 to 5 pills, depending on the quality of the marijuana used and the patient's personal use. We find the most appreciable results are obtained when the pills are taken just before dinner as therapeutic effects manifest more fully during periods of relaxation and limited activity.

It's important to note that whenever you are working with cooking cannabis there is a way too over cook so don't start without a thermometer and instead of putting your bud straight on the stove you can put a pot of boiling water and slowly bring things to a boil.
Then there is the cookies ,don't let the oven get too hot or you will cook out the THC.
Sources say 10 minutes at 210F to 220F will decarboxylate (remove the carbon dioxide or-COOH or ââ,¬â?oCO2) from the raw cannabis and make it more potent. NOTE: I have only done this for small amount of cannabis so more amounts might mean more cooking time with some stirring to get even temp. distribution.

Hopefully its oky that i am posting here even after such a long time!

I am a crohns disease patient and didnt use to have trouble with edibles, but when im not in perfect health, my body dosent absorb nutrients like it should...leading me to believe thats why i dont get high from edibles at all anymore. Whether from the clinic or homemade it jsut dosent work. I found this fourm after lots of searching around for an answer to why I wasntgetting affected by the edibles. So in case anyone out there was searching for answers like I was, and has either crohns or colitis, this fourm is for you =3

Yeah this is interesting and not only with crohn's but I would say that there are just some ppl that don't feel the effects of eating cannabis. I for one have a harder time feeling it then others. I do find that it not only depends on the delivery but potency of the mixture. I can make eatibles very very stronge or I can tone this down. With Crohns I might remove the cannabis every time so it doesn't upset your digestion further. I find that ppl that say they don't get high on eatible might not have eaten the right type or amount or just eat oil insused with cannabis.
As far as eatibles goes I also find the shake seems to have more of what I'm looking for in eatibles. If you just want to play with certian mixtures and who doesn't want to play ..I would say you could try mixing one batch with another and so on this always brings some fun results. Stay safe and have fun headband 707:biggrin:

Same with me.

I do not need much oil for dabbin to get a strong high that lasts for 1,5 hours.
When i drop the same amount of oil into a cabsule and swallow it nothing happens.
No decarb?
I let the alkohol evaporate in a hot water bath, so 212 Fahrenheit are reached. The last bach I extra put the oil into the oven for 30 min at 250 Fahrenheit and than 5 min at 290....so i think (have to trust the oven).

I even made oil out of reclaim from my water pipe cause all the oil remaining in my pipe has been vaporized by dabbin to the titanium and must be decarbolized right? Well the oil was not tasty but it was potent as always. But again the same amount that got me high was not doing anything when swallowed in a capsule. So this is not about decarboxilation.

When i was 16 i drank a little peace of hash in a hot tee and had a bad experience i was hallucinating and couldn ´t move anymore...so oral consumption was a no go for me for decades...but it worked with only hot water :coffee:

I will try to add coconut oil. But the amount of cannbis oil will stay. If i have to use more oil to get the same high when dabbing it...i will go on smoking oil ;)

Aloha:

I am another of the genetic mutants that gets no effect from edibles. I swear its true, I make some edibles that floor people, but not me.

I have only once had any effect at all, and it was way less than a singe hit of good bud.

So for the OP yes there are more of us out there. I might suggest making a sub-lingual tincture, it is absorbed into the bloodstream from under your tongue. If I swallow it I might as well just spill it on the ground, but hold it under for as long as I can and it works.

Good luck and let other people use their stash to show you how you can make it work with the right butter. I don't like the look of disappointment on either of our two faces when their edibles don't work for me, but I like it better with their butter.

I have seen several patients who claimed the same thing, incapacitated after not starting small with well made and accurately labelled medibles made from rso.
Never actually met a person who didn't get any effects, even though they probably do exist.

You might need more oil to feel as high as when you're dabbing it. The difference is that the high from edibles lasts several times longer. :) It's nice to stay high 6 to 8 hours from a coconut oil / hash oil capsule.

You are so right! Today i took a capsule with the doubled dosis oil and very slowly it came up over me till i thought i am high in a good way not too much but definatelly high and for hours...and slowly it went away. If you take it as a medicine it is the way to go.

You have not yet had a POTENT edible friend. When I started making edibles I was only using 2 oz close trim and popcorn to 1 lb of butter. Most folks were very happy. 1 friend said all pains went away...but he really felt nothing else. Soooo, I made some budder using 4oz to 1 lb of budder. Lights out for him!! He said that he actually woke up in the middle of the night and could not roll over....he felt paralyzed. It happens to me as well. If you were close to me I would be happy to give you a REAL edible.

I take weed capsules for insomnia. It's better to stay high and stay asleep all night instead of smoking and waking up to smoke again every hour or two.

They're great for having fun too. :) I'll take one of my C99 caps for a comedy festival I'm going to tonight. One capsule will last for the whole show.

As we are all individuals, there are some among us that have this problem.

Whether the problem is with digestion, absorption or utilization, some people just react differently (as in: they don't feel much, if anything) to edibles.

Maybe that can be corrected over time by detoxing and regenerating your stomach and GI tract... If that's something that you might be interested in. If not, you can just keep smoking or vaping and enjoying the herb in the way that works for you.

I'm lucky to be one of those that get WAY high after ingesting edibles :)

Edibles are a bit unpredictable, it not only differs from person to person but the same person can have different experiences. I went thru this when i was in denver earlier this year. My experience:

1st day, bought a choc bar, and hard candy sucker. The budtender was quite insistent that I not eat more than a 1/3 of the choc bar at one time which had about 90 mg thc total. I ate 1/2 then and soon after the other half. I got a good buzz but not quite as high as i get from smoking. It does last longer, yup.

Next day, I ate another choc bar - whole bar this time. Didnt get as high as the first day. Had empty stomach too and didnt already partake on anything else yet that day. Uh oh, is it that pesky tolerance creeping up on me again?

Next day, I upped the stakes again, whole choc bar on empty stomach and a sucker one hour later. Again alot like the day before - yeah I was lit but it was kind of a sappy buzz. Nothing I couldnt easily handle. I was getting disappointed.

Next day, after the budtender gave me their usual precautionary advice to not consume more than a 1/3 of a bar yada yada, I told her that I felt I was ready to eat a whole bar this time. She gave me a look of slight surprise and then recommended a different brand of choc. bar - the Mile High bar. This bar had 75 mg of thc, less than the previous ones but it cost a bit more. Again I was precautioned not to eat more than a 1/3 at one time. Yeah sure OK. I drove to the mountains for a hike and scarfed the whole bar down. I was hiking for close to two hours and I got lit, maybe more lit, but I still didnt feel all that high and again it was kind of sappy. The 20 minute drive back to boulder was easy, I thought that I might get gripped on the curvy roads but was fine the whole way.

I get back to boulder, started to chit chat with my friend for a while about the hike etc. This is like at least 3-4 hours later after eating that choc bar. All of the sudden out of the blue, I became completely gripped by a panic attack attack of the likes I have never had before. I was convinced that I was coming down with some hidden medical ailment and I couldnt shake it off. Soon I interrupted my friends chit chat and told him that I had to go and take a shower. After 30 minutes in the shower, it slowly started dawning on me that I wasnt going to need medical attention afterall and gradually the panic passed.

I read up some on edibles. Supposedly, THC gets metabolized in your intestines into something else that is stronger and more sedative. That explains the much delayed reaction and totally different nature of the buzz. I got gun shy to edibles after that. There is a fine line between too little and too much. I feel it is easier to build up a tolerance to edibles and soon you will be feeling medicated but not high. Yet that fine line is still there. Even a longtime smoker with a high tolerance (myself) is still very much subject to that fine line.

I have to agree that this just feels like it should be impossible. If you are able to get high while smoking, what sort of demonic stomach do you have that would prevent you from getting high without it? Really weird, but I hope that you get it to work for you.

Everyone gets high off my canna pills in 20-40 minutes. Everyone.

I stopped eating other people's edibles years ago, unless they were free and not too gross. lol

Two things...

Proper oil (there's volumes behind those two words)
Blood type

Figure those out and you're golden. :D
