Don't wash it a lot, wipe out the grease and keep going to get a good seasoned pan that doesn't stick.
I have been slapped upside the head by my grandma for washing her skillet. Use a paper towel and Kosher Salt after it has cooled. The salt will help remove anything that is stuck and soak up the leftover grease making it easy to wipe out. I have 2 skillets and a dutch oven that where my great grandma's and I don't think that they have been washed since they where bought.
