How Long Do You Flush Before Harvest?

I have never flushed any plant including my veggies.

I don't mean to be rude but that's such a stupid analogy. I mean really.... when was the last time you smoked some lettuce?? And yeah.... flushing veggies makes a difference too... when you overfeed them like most people do. *shrug*

Unless you've actually played around and experimented to the point that you've said "Wow... everyone else's cannabis tastes like shit!" You haven't grown clean meds yet. (Or.. you live in a utopia where all the growers know how to grow properly. LOL)

I got to see a lot of lab test results and I think people would be shocked by the amount of nutrient residue in dried buds. Almost every result I saw had at least 10ppm of fertilizer residue. The sales rep for the testing facility said anything under 25 was a safe amount, but he also said the lab technician disagreed and said any residue was completely unacceptable.

May I ask what the standard sample size is? That technician sounds like me.

So while everyone debates a tactic, I'm the only one who posted a logically sound alternative to traditional flushing, provided pictures of not only the plants, but consumed matter that gives credence to my statement... Oh well. I tried. Carry on.

Hey... everyone that doesn't flush, I have a simple task for you... will help the online community greatly.

Take 1 gram of your un-flushed bud and put it in a half cup of "Reverse Osmosis" water for 2 hours. (Must be R/O so all samples are close to the same)
Check the straight R/O water tds, and the half cup of soak water tds, and post the results to this thread.

Should prove to be very enlightening if we can get enough results.

I think most of the pure Organic growers dont flush. Im a 80/20 Organic/Chem user.. Flushing to me is saturating the medium until you have allot of runoff.. I dont do that.. I just feed tap water that's PH to 6.5 until she is done...Flushing is something I use when there is a nutrient or PH issue..

Well written. Lots of good point, both pro and con flushing.

Interesting... but they admit they define "flushing" as using excessive amounts of pH'd water.

That's definitely stressing on the plant and IMO a waste of water and nutrients.


Your growing regimen for organics should lean more toward under-amending the soil (so they're all used in a month) and using teas until plain water for 1-2 weeks before harvest.

Chem soil would be moderate feed, trying to avoid any overfeeding at all, tapering off until a 1-3 week period of plain waterings until harvest.

Chem hydro would be the same as chem soil only a shorter plain water time.

I'm also leaning toward changing nute profiles late in flower to reduce the number of immobile elements I'm feeding... primarily Calcium. The plant really doesn't need these at that time and will taste better.

The only time you should drown your plants is if you really screwed up.... please don't make it a regular part of your growing schedule.

I never flush. I use plain water the entire grow, with a weekly EWC/mineral tea up until harvest, then again, I don't put any chemicals into my plants so there isn't anything to flush out.

think of flushing as getting your stomach pumped to rid your body of the dangerous chemicals.. Not something I want to put my plants through
