still got my grandparents reels from the late 40s/early 50s. NO anti-backlash arrangements. my Dads Abu Garcia 3000 from Sweden in the mid-sixties MUCH easier to use; still not "fool-proof"...If Only When.......

Fake backlash, but funny nonetheless. It took me a month, a few friction burns, and countless hours untangling and cutting out bird nests to earn my thumb as a kid, but definitely worth the effort.If Only When.......

i still throw a birds nest (small) every now and then. but Dads reel is the newest baitcaster i have. a box of toothpicks is worth its weight in gold...
