Sounds good man. Look forward to the progress.![Big grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Sup dude. Do I understand you right about these dimensions and what you want to do? So your airflow will go through an opening 3" x 14" and that goes on for 18" length? And then you want to have a muffling material inside that space on the inner walls? It would depend on the dimensions of that fan.
If we allow say, half an inch for the muffling material, that leaves the gap inside as 2" x 13". That equals 26 sq inches so put 26 into a calculator and hit 'sqrt'. That gives us 5" x 5", so compare that with the dimensions of your fan. I'm not sure how you do it with blowers, but with my lil' baby PC ones, I look at the rectangular output dimensions and use that for my airflow calcs, but then again, I have never had smooth sailing anytime I tried to use calcs with em, lol. Disco, do you know anything about that? I mean the rectangle/square where it blows out:

Oh and of course, you may want to use more than half an inch of muffling stuff, I just picked that number.
I've got the 95cfm model, same motor as yours. It's only ~29db, not very loud. Add a speed controller and you'll reduce the noise considerably.
Filling it is a bad idea yeah. I would line it around the sides. If you look at the muffler DIYs on here, it's a very simple idea and easy to copy a pro muffler. Just adapt the ideaHere's a micro one I adapted from cosy's diy. Could have been better but it works well enough.

Me personally, I would use the carbon filter as a muffler in my own cabs. I haven't paid super close attention here though.
Hey wuts goin on DB? would you still recommend a muffler with the speed controller?

Total stealth is not impossible but very elusive. Scrubbed smell is a must and light leaks are pretty easy to fix. Sound from the fan, bubbler, ballast, etc is the hard part. I usually look for ways to disguise the sound in case somebody walks into the cab room. Fans, computers, aquariums, etc are good to have on hand to blame the sound on.
i was wondering if haveing the fan exhaust all of the utlilty room air will affect the air pump. will the fan suck out the air that the air pump is trying to pump?
I think it just has a different size wheel. Same 1/88th hp motor.if its the same motor wouldnt it be the same cfm?
When you get things set up, you'll have a better idea what your capabilities are. You may achieve the degree of stealth you want. A few growers here look like that came pretty damn close. I had to compromise after I started growing. Nobody is invited into the cab room. If somebody takes the initiative, smell and lights are no issue and the fan sound is minimal. I just take my chances. I don't like the idea of having to lie but I'll blame it on the computer if I have to. The stereo sounds like a good idea.i think im trying too hard. im too much of a perfectionist and was wanting to build a bad ass mini fridge that was totally stealth. it looks like i may have to sacrificea lil stealth
. guess i could keep a sterio on to cover some noise.
never actually thought about it bro. I think it would be a very minimal loss, barely measureable. Nothing worth worrying about (I think)
I'm not sure if you're willing to drop $100.00 for another fan but a panasonic whisper fan (fart fan) might be the quietest option available. They have a 80cfm dc motor fan that is .3 sones. I think 1 sone is ~40db so that's pretty damn quiet. They have larger cfm models, some with ac motors. There's a diy scrubber in the designs thread that's easy to make. The whole thing might work with your configuration.
