Fridgidaire mini fridge demo and construction

some pics and questions

unfortunately i did not get the time that i had expected to get for working on the fridge. i have tho recieved the 150w hps digital ballast(slight progress i guess). i have been thinking of useing a hydrofarms 180 cfm fan for exhaust that i had laying around. i plugged it in and now im a lil worried about the stealth side of things. i will need the cfm to run the intake/light trap/sump cooler/ sump that iv got planned. would a 3"x14"x18" space be sufficeint enough to be used as a muffler and keep noises down. i got the idea from phr3dom2gros cab. heres a shot of the ballast and fan.

Sup dude. Do I understand you right about these dimensions and what you want to do? So your airflow will go through an opening 3" x 14" and that goes on for 18" length? And then you want to have a muffling material inside that space on the inner walls? It would depend on the dimensions of that fan.

If we allow say, half an inch for the muffling material, that leaves the gap inside as 2" x 13". That equals 26 sq inches so put 26 into a calculator and hit 'sqrt'. That gives us 5" x 5", so compare that with the dimensions of your fan. I'm not sure how you do it with blowers, but with my lil' baby PC ones, I look at the rectangular output dimensions and use that for my airflow calcs, but then again, I have never had smooth sailing anytime I tried to use calcs with em, lol. Disco, do you know anything about that? I mean the rectangle/square where it blows out:

Oh and of course, you may want to use more than half an inch of muffling stuff, I just picked that number.

more slow motion building all thats going on here. the dimensions i gave are the portion of the cab that will be the mufler 3" deep x 14" tall x 18" wide. the exhaust opening of the fan is around 12.5" surface area. i was thinking of filling the entire area with muffling material. is that a bad idea? do you think that i should make the muffler area bigger? :1help:

I've got the 95cfm model, same motor as yours. It's only ~29db, not very loud. Add a speed controller and you'll reduce the noise considerably.

Filling it is a bad idea yeah. I would line it around the sides. If you look at the muffler DIYs on here, it's a very simple idea and easy to copy a pro muffler. Just adapt the idea :) Here's a micro one I adapted from cosy's diy. Could have been better but it works well enough.

Me personally, I would use the carbon filter as a muffler in my own cabs. I haven't paid super close attention here though.

Hey wuts goin on DB? would you still recommend a muffler with the speed controller?

What up Scrub? the scrubber that i will be useing is alot like your scrubber idea. its going to be located in between the ceiling of the flower cab and floor of the utility room. and the fan will be mounted on the utility room back wall. this way it will also vent the hot air from the ballast.

i was wondering if haveing the fan exhaust all of the utlilty room air will affect the air pump. will the fan suck out the air that the air pump is trying to pump?

It's up to you, d. Not sure if the fan can suck a filter and blow a muffler at the same time. Each will slow the exhaust down and heat will build. The thing I would do is get a temp gauge and test various configurations. ScrubNinja's suggestion to use the scrubber as a muffler sounds good. Fans don't blow as efficiently as they suck but 180cfm is pretty stout and might pull it off.

Total stealth is not impossible but very elusive. Scrubbed smell is a must and light leaks are pretty easy to fix. Sound from the fan, bubbler, ballast, etc is the hard part. I usually look for ways to disguise the sound in case somebody walks into the cab room. Fans, computers, aquariums, etc are good to have on hand to blame the sound on.

if its the same motor wouldnt it be the same cfm?

:wallbash: i think im trying too hard. im too much of a perfectionist and was wanting to build a bad ass mini fridge that was totally stealth. it looks like i may have to sacrificea lil stealth :puppydoge. guess i could keep a sterio on to cover some noise.

:chin: never actually thought about it bro. I think it would be a very minimal loss, barely measureable. Nothing worth worrying about (I think)

I think it just has a different size wheel. Same 1/88th hp motor.

When you get things set up, you'll have a better idea what your capabilities are. You may achieve the degree of stealth you want. A few growers here look like that came pretty damn close. I had to compromise after I started growing. Nobody is invited into the cab room. If somebody takes the initiative, smell and lights are no issue and the fan sound is minimal. I just take my chances. I don't like the idea of having to lie but I'll blame it on the computer if I have to. The stereo sounds like a good idea.

I'm not sure if you're willing to drop $100.00 for another fan but a panasonic whisper fan (fart fan) might be the quietest option available. They have a 80cfm dc motor fan that is .3 sones. I think 1 sone is ~40db so that's pretty damn quiet. They have larger cfm models, some with ac motors. There's a diy scrubber in the designs thread that's easy to make. The whole thing might work with your configuration.

im going to give the eco plus a try. probably the 8 port so it should have enough lung to fight the fan.

funny that you should say but iv ben debateing on upgradeing to the 100 cfm model. wish i just would have gotten that one in the first place. was that diy scrubber thread that your talking about by bluneth? that was the first design that i decided on. but with the fan together it takes up so much room, its pretty bulky with the cover. i also wasnt sure if the 100 would keep the fridge at a decent temp while running the 150w HPS with th type of intake that im going with.

iv got some more progress on the fridge. i cut out the lip around the doors(big pain in the ass). i also installed the floor and one of the walls. i know that doenst sound like much but damn there was alot milling to be done. plus i had to go buy a jig saw to aid in the build. unfortunately im haveing problems getting the pics onto the laptop so it may be a bit before i can getm posted.

iv got a question as far as the flower cab heigth. from the floor to the ceiling i can go with 29-1/2" to 31-7/8". my question is if the sump is takeing up 10" and the distance to the trellis from the sump is 6" (is that too close? sorry thats not the question) that would leave me 13-1/2" from the trellis to the ceiling. does that leave enough room for the growth? im not sure about the distance of the light from the ceililng but im guessing its around 3" to 4". i can gain another 2-3/8" but would really rather not. the prior measurement would make for a much cleaner application. that route would put the scrubber in the piece between the fridge and freezer.:witch:

o and if the cat that told DiscBisuit that he was posting too much on the 150w club thread is here :moon:

:witch2:smooth sailing on the fridge. iv got the day off to go to the dr. for some shit and iv spent the morning working on the fridge. i got the other wall installed, the ceiling of the utility room back, and some smaller pieces at the bottom and top. also i have ordered a 150 cfm panisonic whisper fan rated at .6 sones that should be arriveing by the end of the week. shes slowly comeing together a lil at a time. il try and get some pics posted tonight. :woohoo:

alrite iv got some more work in progress cab porn for everyone. this is a shot from the back with the doors off, and the one wall and the floor.
and heres a front shot of the same progress

now a front and back shot with both of the walls. floor, and ceiling.

i have the pieces for the ceiling of the flower cab and floor of the utility room. which will house the scrubber and will fit in the space where you see the black strip in the last pic. with any luck il have some time soon to continue with the progress.
