Formula 1 2011

Congrats to Seb! :jump:

Button reminded me again, why he is so hard to respect, despite his great performance this year. Whining like bitch because the start moves from Seb. Like whining and crying back in 2009, when things was not perfect with his car. Sounds like kid that has taken away lollipop.

i hope that R.Kubica ll be back in next season !
Robert, your fans are with you!

Yeah Kubica is a great driver lets hope we see him back on from.. I'd like to see Senna take Petrov's place but i guess that'll come down to who brings in the most sponsers.

Does make me laugh to see Lada on the side of an F1 car.

The Flying Lap - Episode 40

Japanese Grand Prix De-Brief & Korean Grand Prix Preview :

In Episode 40 of The Flying Lap this week we'll be covering a lot of ground as we look back at the Japanese GP and ahead to Korea with two F1 experts from very different parts of the world. Live from Melbourne, Australia, where he will have just stepped off the flight from Nagoya, the highly-acclaimed Australian journalist, Matthew Clayton, will be giving us his personal view of events in Suzuka. Matt has worked for the Australian Grand Prix Corporation for several years, is close to Mark Webber and happens also to be a tennis and cricket writer/author in his spare time. Then, live from the SpeedTV studios in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sean Kelly will be looking back, as a statistician, at the achievements of the 2010/11 World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, and his formidable Red Bull Racing team. A closet Aussie V8 fan, we're sure Sean will also have something to say about the Bathurst race that took place just before (and into, time-wise!) the Japanese GP. As a special bonus, we will also be meeting Al Gibson at the ArtLondon Fair, where recently he exhibted his amazing, F1-inspired carbon sculptures. Chief Mechanic at BAR-Honda when Jenson Button won his first F1 race, Al also has plenty to say about Jenson's most recent of Grand Prix victories.

Mr.Wags

This all depends on who can retain the technological advantage for next year's car. All the team's are now working flat out on their 2012 design's. Mclaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes all have enormous engineering depth and strength. These 3 team's will pose the biggest threat to Vettel and Red Bull.

Red Bull have an ace up their sleave with the design genius of Adrian Newey at their disposal. He's one the most successful and brilliant of all current F1 Technical Director's, and that's why Red Bull pays him beaucoup bucks, to the tune of
$ 10 Million per year.

Here is a pic of highly touted 20 year old, Jean-Eric Vergne, driving the Toro Rosso, getting his first real taste of F1 during FP1 today. He has risen to the top in the Red Bull Young Driver's Program, and this is his reward. Which ever current Torro Rosso driver is slowest at the end of the year in Brazil, will have to give his seat to Vergne for the race.

Vettel Wins Korean Grand Prix

Race Start - Korean Grand Prix 2011

12265.jpg

Newly crowned WDC Sebastian Vettel easily won the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday. This dominating win clinched the Constructor's Title for Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton came second, over 12 seconds behind the winner. Hamilton had a huge battle with Mark Weber for over 30 laps, with the position going back and forth between them. In the end, Weber had to settle for third. Button finished a lonely fourth, with the two Ferrari's of Alonso and Massa finishing fifth and sixth.

Both Alonso and Rosberg ran out of fuel on their cool down laps.

Dan Wheldon RIP

Dan Wheldon RIP

Very sad and tragic news from the Las Vegas Indy Car race. British driver Dan Wheldon,33, 2005 Indy Car Champion and 2 time Indy 500 winner, died today in a horrific 15 car crash at Las Vegas Speedway......:badday:

The race was stopped after the incident.

Someone from the FIA should sit a few of its more knuckle headed driver's in a locked room, all together to watch this horrific video, preferably over and over again until they get the message.

Update: Here is a link to watch the Sunday edition of Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain. He thoroughly breaks down the incident, and also interviews Robin Miller, an old school motor racing journalist who has covered Indy Car racing for 30 years.

When Tony George started the IRL years back I can remember him saying one of the main reasons was he ws tired of not being able to pronounce the drivers names and that there were kids less than 30 miles from here (Indianapolis Raceway Park) that given the opportunity could run circles around these so called professionals.

Today we saw A past series CHAMPION and 2 time Indianapolis 500 winner who could ONLY get 2 ride's for the whole damn year DIE a senseless death due to Mr Barnhart's idea of a good show.

So many cars and so few good drivers going 225 mph is only asking for what you saw today. KAYOS and CARNAGE

A Sad Day Indeed:badday:

Sad but true Mr Wags, scarily easy it is for anybody with no talent, but plenty of $$ to get in one of those cars and the safety is inexcusably far short of current F1 standards. How many of those things were bursting into flames after impacts ? Reminds me of the Ford Pinto joke in Top Secret. When was the last time you saw an F1 car explode in impact ?

RIP Dan, condolences to his family and all those close to him.

The Flying Lap - Episode 41

In this special episode we talk to Sir Jackie Stewart, three-times World Champion and the winner of 27 Grands Prix for BRM and Tyrrell. A tireless campaigner for safety and charitable causes throughout his racing career, and in the years that followed his retirement in 1973, Sir Jackie is today acclaimed globally as one of the most significant figures in the history of our sport. In the aftermath of the shocking accident in Las Vegas that cost the life of Dan Wheldon, he talks about lessons that can be learned in all disciplines of the sport - and about the F1 politics over the years that, astonishingly, have led to Sir Jackie never being asked to take a formal role (in the area of safety) within the sport. Despite that omission, there is no doubt that no single individual has done more for the safety of drivers, pit crew and spectators. We talk about his favourite cars, his most "harmonious" races, his own mental approach to racing, about the current F1 stars, about Red Bull Racing - a team he originated in Milton Keynes - and about the searching question he asked of Ayrton Senna early in 1990, now made famous by the "Senna" movie . Candid and open, Sir Jackie also talks about his battle with dyslexia and his spiritual beliefs.

Episode 42 - Peter Windsor Interviews Nigel Mansell

Episode 42 guest is Nigel Mansell, the 1992 F1 World Champion and the winner of 31 Grands Prix. A hero still amongst F1 fans all over the world, Nigel rose to F1 the hard way - without sponsorship and without the early support of inner-circle British decision-makers. He had, though, a God-given talent and a cast iron determination to succeed; and, as such, he stands today as a model for all those with even a glint of ambition in their eyes. His season in 1980 was pivotal: he was quick in F3 but he was replaced in the March team mid-season when they hired a driver with money. He tested and raced occasionally for the new Ralt-Honda F2 team; and he worked long hours as a truck-driver/test driver at Team Lotus. Colin Chapman gave him an F1 chance first in Austria and then at Zandvoort. He drove the skin off those Lotus cars - and was rewarded with a full-time race drive for 1981. The rest is history. He switched to Williams in 1985, won his first race at Brands that year, joined Ferrari in 1989-90 and then returned to Williams in 1991. In 1992, setting records that still stand today, Mansell dominated the World Championship.
As if that was not enough, Nigel went on to win the 1993 IndyCar World Series for Newman-Haas and almost to take the Indy 500 at his first attempt. A driver who didn't know the meaning of giving up - or of finishing second - Nigel in retirement has devoted much of his life to charitable causes, to his family - and to his second sporting love (golf).

Mercedes Front Wing F-Duct

Mercedes Front Wing F-Duct

Mercedes is already developing a front wing f duct in preparation for the 2012 season. Apparently, they have been secretly testing it now for the last several races. They have also hired two top engineer's/designer's for 2012. Aldo Costa (ex-Ferrari) and Geoff Willis (ex HRT, BAR, Red Bull). The signs are clear; Mercedes are going for it. The board has signed off on an expansion plan to take the team up to the limits imposed by the Resource Restriction Agreement and enable Ross Brawn’s team to challenge Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren for the top honours

Forced down force.? I wonder how many pounds of extra down force that develops?

Sad thing is I bet they spent at least 30 million to develop that but I like what I see.
