These idiots take the prize for being so fucking dumb it beggars belief

Ireland hunting down thousands of escaped minks
By SHAWN POGATCHNIK (AP) – 4 hours ago
DUBLIN — The roads and rivers of northwest Ireland are suddenly lined with mink.
Managers at Anderson's Mink Farm said Wednesday that many of their cages and fences were cut and opened over the weekend, freeing an estimated 5,000 animals into the wilds of County Donegal. About 28,000 others declined the invitation to bolt for freedom.
More than 100 already have been recaptured by hunters using cage traps, while several hundred others have been run over and killed. Drivers have reported seeing groups of the farm-reared animals standing, dazzled by headlights, in the middle of busy roads.
One of the farm's directors, Connie Anderson, blamed animal rights activists for invading the farm in the early hours of Sunday. He declined to explain why it took the farm so long to raise the public alarm.
"These people are animal liberation terrorists and had no thought for the mink or for the damage that will be done to other wildlife in the area," Anderson said.
Agricultural authorities warned that the surviving minks could decimate local populations of salmon, rabbits and fowl.

Animal rights activists in Ireland have denied responsibility — but are praising whoever did it.
"We have nothing to do with it. However, I commend whoever risked their freedom to do
this as these animals have a horrendous life," said Bernie Wright, spokeswoman for Ireland's Alliance for Animal Rights.

Mink are an introduced species with no predators as such, they will absolutely trash the local population of native wildlife in that area before they spread out.

The mink population in Ireland is already exploding and these animal rights idiots release 1000's of them into the wild with no concept on how much damage they are going to do.....well done guys, great way to wreck the place.

Seriously how fucking stupid do you have to be to do something like this, they obviously have degrees in being retarded
Animal Rights my ass they are nothing but environmental criminals who deserve 7 layers of shit kicked out of them..

Complete idiots.

Nothing annoys me more than people with this kind of warped sense of ideology, I'm all for animal welfare, and think we should do more to protect animals from exploitation... but this kind of thing is just destructively stupid, the worst thing is the animal rights loons will be boasting about it as though it's an achievement, and anyone who disagrees is inhumane.

I'm scared they will release infected lab animals someday. Then zombie apocolypse.

Hey fuck it, if you wanna run an animal torture factory, which is what these mink farms boil down to thanks to the conditions, then you better be prepared to deal with people who think torturing animals isn't cool.

Me personally, I'd rather kick it with someone who lets animals free than some cocksucker farming and killing them on mass scale to put overpriced fur on some fucking idiot's coat.

I agree Mr Bong. Its crazy that farms like that are legal in the first place.

The thing that gets me is that mink farming is going to be phased out by 2012 so the whole thing was pointless really.

We humans, supposedly the smartest creatures, are presiding over the greatest mass extinction of wildlife in history. That doesn't make us too smart, does it?
I'm all for animal rights activists freeing whoever they can.
I used to have a job where I visited the research laboratories of a major university. In these labs were chimps in tiny cages, so small that they could barely move. They spend their whole lives in there, except when they are being stuck with needles and given toxic substances of all kinds. Being tortured on a daily basis is their existence.
It is the saddest thing you have ever seen, and many times I wished I could put a stop to it and free them.
Just unbelievably cruel.
People who wear fur coats are a disgrace, IMO.

I am very much against fur, am a vegetarian and believe whole heartedly in animal rights.

I also believe whole heartedly that the stupid asshat donkeyhonkers who did this should be thrown into a tank with a couple dozen hungry lampreys and left there.

Anyone who thinks turning loose the equivalent of 5000 psychotic land piranhas upon the unsuspecting wildlife of the surrounding neighborhood is a good thing has the brain of a medium-sized fungal growth.

Well thats the problem . I wonder how many peeps who looked at this thread have had chocolate made by child labor today? worlds full of injustices! letting these minks go is environmental vandalism ,here in Australia we have no end to the problems being caused by critters that just don't belong in our environment..its so sad to see

When I was a kid my mom would sent me out to shovel the drive in the winter in her mink coat because it was so cold. God that thing was so warm and soft and light.

Let them be free, nature will sort it out! They may be land piranhas, but humans are COCKROACHES! We destroy a billion times more then any other species. No argueing that matter

It is funny how man excludes themselves from nature as if we were not animals. Anything we do is in natures plan so to speak, and when nature is done with us we will become extinct too, just like 99% of creatures that ever lived. Homoerectus (cave men) lived on the earth 10 times longer than us and are 100% extinct, except for cast of "Jersey Shore" and the KKK.

my point is, dont worry, be happy.

nature gave us hunting and skinning skills because it did not give us fur. natural fur, wool and leather are still the best materials for warmth and dryness. Most synthetics can not keep up. I know this from personal backpacking experience

i agree, the fact is the potential was for over 30,000 of them to run free, thankfully 28,000 or so were said to have remained at the facility. they reproduce like rodents of course and and when their numbers have decimated the surrounding wildlife by predation rabies will begin to set into the population which will kill off other species not specifically on their diet but within a poisoned food chain.
