Sad news folks. Eddy Lepp was just sentenced to 10 years in Federal Prison today. He won't need to surrender his freedom until July 7th. An appeal is likely.

This is the case where members of Eddy Lepp's church planted 32,000 cannabis plants outdoors next to a state highway. He was arrested and charged with having planted ALL those plants himself for resale.

This case has taken four years to get to this point, and Eddy was testing the new laws, prop 215 and SB 420 which allow for medical marijuana.

The feds busted the grow and hauled off the 32,000 plants. The Feds have been keen to make an example out of Eddy because of the size of the grow. Unfortunately our hope was that with Obama coming to power this kind of prosecution would be a thing of the past, but apparently not!

Look on the bright side folks...at least they are letting him remain a free man while all of these court proceedings are going on. I've known people who've been arrested for much much less, were taken into custody IMMEDIATELY, and had to sit in a jail cell throughout the whole process of going to the various court dates (which took over a year), THEN were convicted and sentenced. So from the moment they were arrested their freedom was gone. Innocent until proven guilty my ass.

Eddy still has time to appeal, and win. As of now he is still free, let us be thankful for that. Our country is becoming more and more MJ friendly as time goes by...so with every appeal comes some fresh faces with a more current perspective.

Good luck Eddy. Prayin' for ya bud.

Lake County pot grower sentenced to 10 years in prison

A Lake County man who pushed the boundaries of medical marijuana laws by growing more than 20,000 pot plants in plain view was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Patel ordered Charles “Eddy” Lepp, 56, to turn himself in to federal authorities July 6, said U.S. Attorney Dave Hall.

Lepp was convicted last year of conspiracy to possess marijuana with the intent to distribute more than 1,000 pot plants and of cultivating more than 1,000 plants.

Ten years was the minimum mandatory sentence, Hall said.

Lepp’s attorneys had argued that Lepp should not go to prison because he is in poor health.

Lepp also will be subject to five years of supervised release following his prison sentence, Hall said.

Lepp has said he will appeal last year’s conviction. He claims he is entitled to use pot for religious and medical reasons, but was not allowed to use those claims during his federal trial. Federal authorities do not recognize medical marijuana.

Lepp’s conviction stems from a 2004 raid on his Upper Lake pot operation, where authorities said they seized about 25,000 plants. Lepp has said the number of plants was higher.

High Times magazine, a publication focused on marijuana production and laws, said it was the single largest crop of medical pot seized in the United States. The plants were grown in neat rows in plain view of Highway 20 and next door to a strawberry field.

Investigators estimated the crop could have been worth more than $80 million had they been allowed to mature.

I too hope he gets to lessen the blow with an appeal... It was the "Minimum" sentence. Whatever that means... Eddy L. can be incorrigible, tough and unruffled, but hopefully, his health is OK...

other articles say only 1,000 plants

Cost to grow 1,000+ plants: $10,000
Cost to maintain huge farm: $5,000
Profits from selling: $$$$$
Planting the plants near a highway visible to passing motorists and police: priceless

dumbass move on his part, but on the other hand arresting anyone for any offense related to marijuana is ridiculous.
