will this block airstone stay at the bottom of a DWC bucket?
or will this tube airstone stay at the bottom of a DWC bucket?
If neither of these stay at the bottom, can someone show or post a picture of a airstone that will stay at the bottom of a DWC bucket, (without any extra need support or glue)
My first guess would be that they all float. I have used river rocks to weigh down my bubblers before. I will let somebody else chime in however for verification.
Neither will float. You can slip a stainless steel nut over the line before you put the stone on to weigh them down. The tube may need to be weighted a few times in the middle. They make solid wands but, they don't float either.
i have two long air stones that you can find in fish tanks and they sink.
mine are long and blue. i keep them both in a 20g dwc. i bet those will sink. the ones i got are at walmart.
I never tried any airstone that would stay on the bottom by itself, including those that advertized they would. Air stones are for fish tanks, open tubes are better, no resistance and no clogging.

I can confirm the blue ones pictured do sink because they have a metal rod running through the middle to keep the shape you bend them to. I use those you pictured and they put out very tiny bubbles (good thing) and they don't seem to clog.
i have used the square kind. i throw a big steel washer around the airline before i attach the airstone and it sinks right to the bottom. otherwise, i've found that they will submerge but become totally engulfed in roots.
I ususally use 4" airstones with DWC and they stay on the bottom just fine. I have also used some huge ones like these that really rock and don't clog up as fast as others I have used. I got mine at my local hydro store, but you can also order them online.
