Do (some, many) Icmag Members Have A Science Problem?

the problem is not so much the anti-science crew; but the pseudo-science crew who try to pass scientism as science.

these are usually the ones creating dogmatic beliefs out of a discipline whose purpose is understanding how mechanisms work.

go figure.

its also true that 2 people can be told the same thing and arrive @ 2 separate conclusions

@ a job i once worked; we had a meeting wherein they changed a procedure~ when i started using the new procedure on the floor; my supervisor corrected me 'they said to do this the old way' {not in so many words} 50% of that meeting had been introducing the new procedure and she was right there @ the same meeting but had to go ask the manager what was going on when i applied what we were told ~it was a pretty cut and dried thing too

when people confuse simple things; just imagine how more complex things can be construed

women are people? :)

Just kidding. Its pretty common for women to interpret things differently than men. Our brains are wired differently.

lol~ except this was pretty cut and dried ~not so much an 'interpretation' issue as a communication issue

that is the most glaring experience i could recall ~there were plenty of other wimminz in the meeting who understood it correctly

Thanks OP.

People don't "believe" in science/physics, talk illogical babble, and then have no problem hopping on an airplane. lol

there isnt an anti science crew or a pseudo science crew..

if anyone's posing any hypothesis it's still a hypothesis.. it is all "science".. it is all the search for truth..

science means "knowledge" so it isn't just simply understanding how mechanisms work, it is understanding everything/anything and since there are many levels within which to get consumed that all perfectly dance right next to each other on the grand electromagnetic scale without any interference, one ultimately hopes people strive to see the bigger picture of the tapestry of flowing energy and electromagnetism that feeds the life force powering all levels of matter and life in this universe..

and hopefully not stuck mechanistically measuring every detail of one discipline like the majority of those that call themselves "scientists".. that is atrophying retarding tedium and usually just not needed, it is one tool a "scientist" can use, it is not the rule, or it wasn't, in our era the scientists themselves have become the lab rats for a new religion by being given a job (a living) within an environment that requires by proxy they believe in a wider array of unproven hypothesis that they will never be able to personally test for themselves so have to accept for the time being..

ive spent so much time looking at scientists work from all different centuries and it started going well off the rails back in the 1700s.. i've detailed why alot of times on icmag and since the mainstream science lovers have no idea wtf i'm going on about when i mention the principle of uniformity and the electric universe and all the false hypothesis the house of cards are built on, probably because there is about a years worth of solid reading and the need to be seriously switched on in all manner of disciplines largely geology/astrology/physics but also biology and psychology to get it to any degree and i have been very lucky to have the time and be in a position to do so..

mysticism used to be the same search for truth, it covered all of what we now call science and those that followed it around the world mastered disciplines beyond what we now have in mainstream science depending on your interpretation of sophistication, that we still cannot reproduce..

science isn't new and its central problem (the principle of uniformity) comes back to three men aristotle, socrates and plato.. but i doubt anyone cares why anyway, just call me a pseudo scientist if you like, some go for crazy..

Except for the fact that you can philosophize all day long, but if you fall off a 300 foot cliff, you'll still die......(that's the science part)

they used bogus science experiments to justify its danger

monkeys exposed to pure smoke for 5 minutes periods led to brain damaged monkeys and thus dangerous marijuana

I understand how prohibition took place and how the racist, puritanical politicians of the day misused, not used "bogus science" experiments to further their own political agendas.
The key word here being "bogus."
If said experiments were "bogus", then it is the scientists to blame; not the science.
There will always be men willing to bias their own work or allow others to do just that to accomplish a goal. Just look at global warming, um, I mean climate change.

there is no way to know if the scientists colluded with anslinger and no way to find out, but based on giving an animal pure smoke and saying a small percentage of psychoactive caused brain damage without qualifying the damage of the carbon monoxide and separating it is a tell that the scientist was purposely ignorant or that it was not held to peer review.

what does it matter, the point being science can be misrepresented, the point I made in my first post and the point I am asserting now. Looking to find an argument where one doesn't exist?

This thread reminds me of how Obama during his speech in Ohio last week warned about conspiracy theorist, and not to trust them. Then this week we find out about Bengazi and the IRS scandals. This is a crazy world we live in, there is no more black and white, only gray.

research the cia and propaganda, watch the power principle

misinformation creates doubt

even big corporations exploit this dynamic

Doubt is Their Product: How Industry's Assault on Science Threatens Your Health

"Doubt is our product," a cigarette executive once observed, "since it is the best means of competing with the 'body of fact' that exists in the minds of the general public. It is also the means of establishing a controversy."
In this eye-opening expose, David Michaels reveals how the tobacco industry's duplicitous tactics spawned a multimillion dollar industry that is dismantling public health safeguards. Product defense consultants, he argues, have increasingly skewed the scientific literature, manufactured and magnified scientific uncertainty, and influenced policy decisions to the advantage of polluters and the manufacturers of dangerous products. To keep the public confused about the hazards posed by global warming, second-hand smoke, asbestos, lead, plastics, and many other toxic materials, industry executives have hired unscrupulous scientists and lobbyists to dispute scientific evidence about health risks. In doing so, they have not only delayed action on specific hazards, but they have constructed barriers to make it harder for lawmakers, government agencies, and courts to respond to future threats. The Orwellian strategy of dismissing research conducted by the scientific community as "junk science" and elevating science conducted by product defense specialists to "sound science" status also creates confusion about the very nature of scientific inquiry and undermines the public's confidence in science's ability to address public health and environmental concerns Such reckless practices have long existed, but Michaels argues that the Bush administration deepened the dysfunction by virtually handing over regulatory agencies to the very corporate powers whose products and behavior they are charged with overseeing.
In Doubt Is Their Product Michaels proves, beyond a doubt, that our regulatory system has been broken. He offers concrete, workable suggestions for how it can be restored by taking the politics out of science and ensuring that concern for public safety, rather than private profits, guides our regulatory policy.

Yes. Many folks like to argue against the wisdom of reading books at all, and we are all fans of not polluting our minds with outside thoughts all the time,,. But sooner or later these hippies get around to measuring what they think they know, with what others think they do. They will read books if only of the get go to spite them, then probably post a slew of links from them only verifying what they were trying to argue against, actually being the case. They'll usually have no clue they proved themselves wrong either. It's a strange and beautiful thing to watch, and yes, it qualifies as a big-ass science problem lol.
