each driver runs 2 vero 13s so its modular and could be used that way

so its total canopy is about 1.14 sq ft

I should make a note that the heatsink for these is cutting it pretty close- ive chosen these heatsinks as mentioned because they r modular but if you are in USA and have acces to heatsinksusa.com there are better affordable option

I just made a spreadsheet today to calculate heatsinks cooling ability hit me up if u have questions

here is a driver that can run 13 vero 13s and it can be dimmed too(could also run these 12 no worries)

You are a crazy guy Dion but in a good way.
You could start producing lamps and sell in Europe like Hans does.
There are a big need for good lamps at a fair prize.

OK, on a whim, I bought your $100 version. I'll build it and try it in my PC Grow. I'll post back here when the parts arrive.

:dance013: I'll consider it a $100 lesson in DIY COBs :dance013:

Hey Dione, thanks for all the information you've been sharing on the diy led lights. I ordered myself 8x vero 18 5000k 70 cri, 1x hlg 185-c700a, 8x pico-ezmate 12", grease, and screws (same stuff you have in your cart). Would two 12"x4.9" heatsinks from heat sink usa suffice? I'm also planning on getting 2 of the hydrodynamic bearing fans.

Thanks,
-K

This is the quick version of the "All American" build. For a more detailed step-by-step see my PC thread.

First I made a template for the screws and the thermal pad. Next I drilled the holes in the heatsinks, applied thermal grease, and screwed down the COBs. with the connectors, there is no need to solder. Here are all four COBs ready to be wired up.
IMG_20151123_173945.492.jpg

I decided on some 1/8" x 1 1/2" aluminum angle iron. This should help dissipate some wattage as well as making a single rigid lamp.

Here it is fires up for some temperature tests.

Did you use thermal compound between the heatsinks and the angle aluminum? It might help if you are trying to diffuse the heat.

thanks for that I created an xl formula sheet(super geeky i know) to calculate surface areas of heat-sinks because the one in the 1st kit was rated at 11w while we were only dissipating 7w of heat to it =C
I updated the build because actually digikey didnt have anything for less than $12 to cool a single cob and seen as the point of this build was to avoid long waiting times I went with heatsink usa- the price went up because we still had to fill the cart to get free shipping but this time it's with 6 chips\\

that woudl be fun but i dont know where to start really

growshops arnt interested in selling good quality leds(not enough repeat biz like bulbs lol) so they just sell shit for way too much money

pm me if u have ideas perhaps we can do it together

BUILD KIT # 5

the 'Big Daddy'
Includes Veg/Bloom mode but is not dimmable- value for money
[Price: $193 ] [Skills Required: Drilling] [Tools Required: Drill] [163W: = 23000L in Bloom mode/ 8000L Lumens in VEG mode as VEG light(all 5000k)=24,000Lumens(good for up to 16sq ft prob better for a 3x3 as a veg panel]

this build is an expansion on the 1st build- once we get this big(in terms of heat watts) passive cooling starts making less financial sense so ive included a heatsink option for active cooling(you will need to buy a pc fans and run them off a phone charger[5v] in parallel- 1 fan per sink) bigger than this requires using cpu coolers and 50w chips

this build is desighned to make 3 panels each with 5 chips

1 panel of 5000k only(for veg) and 2 panels of 3500k to be added to the veg during flower(like all 3 running in flower)

in a 2x2 it will give 807ppfd @ 43% efficiency and around 5800L per sq ft

AND 3x PC FANS plus an old phone charger

Hi guys,

First post on icmag. Wanted to say thanks to Dion for making this great thread!
Not a grower yet. Still in the planing phase and still hoping for Ungass 2016 to break some barriers even up here north of the ice wall in Europe.

I wanted to share some pics of my Vero 13's and how I built them. When I first saw this build I knew that this one could be the one for me. I wanted something that could be easy modified for changes or new setups.

First I drawed up the centers and marked the drillspots for the LED.

Then i sanded down the aluminium and mounted the COB's. The sandpaper I used was a bit rough, but I wanted to use stuff i allready had in the house.

And the last part and fun part, wiring up and testing the LED's

First i bought "BUILD #3 'But I'm not in America'" and after building and tested them I decided to add some more 2.7, 3.5 and 5k's.

Hope this will be to some help.

Also hope you will forgive my mediocre english skills.

Had to remove some of the pictures and split the post in two since there is restrictions on 5 images per post.
