DIY harvester

I have been working on this for a while. I love growing for myself and consuming what I grow, but harvest time is something I dread. The trimming cramps my old hands and takes too darn long. I saw a video on YouTube of two guys using a box fan to trim. It didn't look like it did a great job but still beat the heck out of scissors. So I refined the idea put a really sharp blade on it and this is the very first run. It isn't the final machine but pretty close. It is fully recyclable as it is built of stainless steel and a water based plastic. It took just few buds to get the hang of using it, the video is the very first bud trimmed! Trim time was less than half of normal trim time for the four plants I harvested at the time I shot this video. There seems to be no damage to the buds themselves, which was a big concern for me. Clean up of the harvester was a breeze with a single edge razor blade (I couldn't let the little collected resin go to waste) and isopropyl alcohol. One of my better DIYs ! I can't figure out how to embed the video so here is the link:

Hey that's pretty cool!. When are you going to upload the instructions?! ;)

Thanks for posting.

Maybe make use of the vibration with a silk screen insert in the bottom with a pan for catching kief. I like the idea as long as I still get to handle the bud and don't lose out on all that good finger hash that makes trimming worth while.

It is built to accommodate an ice o later or bubble bag as a catch bag. I use a 5 gallon paint strainer bag.

Duplicate I am not sure what you mean by instructions ? It is used just as I showed in the video.

I have since added a safety on/off switch and made a stand out of a heavy duty cardboard tube.

I made one about the same with stuff I had around. made a plywood box. I cut a whole on top and mounted a cooling grate that is normally used to cool cookies. Then mount a sharped metal fan blade inside the box as close to the grate as possibly. works good enough for and did cost 1000$. Thumbs up to naturall_mystic, his looks a lot nicer, looks like you could sell it.

Yeah, I am waiting for details and instructions. Maybe a parts list as well. Good job bud! That looks very professional.

There really isn't a parts list. Though I tried lots of off shelf parts but I didn't like the results. So I drew the parts on paper and took them to a shop that has CNC laser cutting machines. Getting the parts right has taken the better part of a year and frightfully expensive. I did talk with them about quantity pricing but have not figured out what it would cost to build them in quantity yet. I really started this project because I hate trimming and love to invent. It was pretty amazing to watch the parts being cut out at the factory but more exciting to trim with it. I had the motor made to my specifications in Mexico, it is a sealed high RPM low torque (for safety) one of a kind motor at the moment, but they email all the time asking if I need more motors. I worked hard to keep it simple. It has seven parts not counting screws and nuts. Eight parts if you count the net bag that catches the trimmings (can't see it in the video), and nine parts if you count the cardboard tube stand, though I expect if this went "commercial" I would have to come up with a better stand. I added a safety switch just recently so that ups the part count to about 10. I thought it might be neat to sell this thing as a kit. It wouldn't be hard to assemble and adjust, I can write good instructions for assembly and use. As I am really a lurker here I am pleased with the interest. If anyone is serious about this let me know and we'll see what it will take to get the ball rolling. By the way Mystic Harvester is a nice name idea.

nice job! So this looks essentially like a Trimbox, if you could sell it a lot cheaper than them, I am sure people will buy it.

Louie, what is a trim box and what does it cost? I thought I had a unique idea when I started this project, unique in that I didn't know anyone had a specialized machine for home use like this other than a box fan.

Nynexx, I love comments like yours. No doubt your home A/C really is equivalent to this machine, plus it cools your home! I believe you should trim all your bud with your home A/C. I wish I had your help months ago, you could have saved me so much effort. Thanks for your input. :)

the trim pro with out a table is $699-799 depending on where you shop
with a work table it's $950-1065
both come with a catch bag
naturally they also make bigger models for up to $1700
the bigger ones are nice 2-3 people can stand around it trimming
