I've used King for hundereds of extractions and even done side by side with vector and I honestly cannot tell a difference except King is almost half the price. You can get a case of king for like $27 something

BHO redissolved in ethanol and filtered

BHO redissolved in ethanol and filtered

Hey Chiefsmokingbud
Ive clean up BHO from tiny gas bubbles and dust with secondary dissolving in ethanol (or iso) before collecting from plate,
then filter if needed and evaporate in usual way.
Here is White_Russian BHO redissolved in ethanol and filtered

A fooking work of art, nice work jump117, much rep for that amber. When you say Ethanol are you speaking of Anhydrous (100% pure) or are you just using 96% ethanol like Everclear? Not sure if you guys have this in Russia, but it's the easiest thing for people in the US to get a hold of. Also, how are you 'filtering'?

ambient temperatures when extracting

ambient temperatures when extracting

i recently got my okief tube in the mail(3 business day delivery), i want to make my first batch of BHO, i'm concerned about the outdoor temperatures when extracting. it's currently below 0 here.

does this have any effect on the process?

i was looking at getting 2 pyrex 9.5" pie pans(about 1" deep), would these work well?

use heat pad for 1 hour after or can i scrape sooner?

Hey Otherwhitemeat
After butane is evaporated and gas bubbling stoped BHO has a lot of gas bubbles stuck in amber.
To remove it I add alcohol into dish to dissolve BHO again. It dissolves completely ofcourse.
Next I filter the alco solution through paper coffee filter to remove garbage that appears sometimes while butane is boiling out in the open air.
Then it goes to evaporation again. Now the remains of butane that were stuck in amber are free to go out from dissolved BHO.
Visually cleaned BHO doesn't contain any gas bubbles and doesn't fireworks while smoking.
I use 96% medical ethanol but for sure Everclear or iso will work the same way.

I just think it's great that you are getting amber from fresh trim/buds. Any experiments I've made with fresh stuff always winds up green and cloudy. I am going to give this method a whirl in a week or so after my next harvest, and will report back my results.

go ahead ready1. just use a hot water bath under your pyrex dish you are spraying the oil into right away, outside. if you use the hot water bath for the whole thing you wont get any moisture condensing into the oil dish, which is likely in cold temps otherwise.

So you wouldn't expect this to cause any other problems other then the condensation? I actually just pm'd Chiefsmokingbud about this very concern. I noticed a little condensation when I did it but it wasn't a major concern it really only formed on the handles of my pyrex dish. I believe my slight yeild issue may have been because of how I packed it.

i do it all the time in the winter. we had 19 degrees below freezing this year. bit colder than usual. yield isnt affected negatively.

what are the signs of an over purge?? plan on dong a run and i just started to put a plate over my Pyrex dish to keep the heat in and i let boiling water cool to room temp. 2 time and it came out alot better than my past run (u could roll it up in your palm to a ball but after it sat it would eventually start to mold to what ever it was in) should i add boiling water to room temp acouple more times or is it more a factor of the type of herb im using?

Great I'm glad to hear that. I'm going to make a little tamper for my extractor so I can pack it evenly and I'll see if I have more luck.

As usual, Hasmasta is dispensing the useful knowledge. It was 7 F where I did my BHO yesterday and I read this before doing my work. Very helpful. No ice crystals in my butane or anything. THANKS!

Hey Otherwhitemeat
....
I use 96% medical ethanol but for sure Everclear or iso will work the same way.

I did this exactly as you described above using Everclear (says 95% alcohol). My ethanol evap produced a nice refined mix. Very dark, about the same color as motor oil...but very thick and plastic like. Thicker than any BHO I've done without the ethanol, but not as formable as yours. Somewhere in between.

It was made from some very fresh, greasy Top 44 so the base material might have a lot to do with it. Top44 is greasy and strong, the oil is very 'wet' if that makes sense. (If you rub a leaf against a mirror it looks like vaseline) I looked at the coffee filter under a microscope and it was all headless trichs (looked very cool too). It seemed I was able to take quite a bit of sludge out with the coffee filter with very little loss of material.

The end result is AMAZING, I came out with about 1.5g all said and done. Honestly, the best I've ever smoked. Pure, potent, tasty, and such a little goes a LONG WAY. My only problem with my product is that it's so sticky that it's hard to handle. I may have to try again to get the amber. It's been drying overnight and it's still very wet and sticky.

I started my BHO run with a total of 16 ozs Colibri butane and about 1 oz dried Papaya trim/popcorn; 1 oz Top44 leaves (very wet and frosty, dried only one day) and about a 1/4 oz of old, dry grinded up bud from assorted containers and one hitters that I collected from around the house.

I like the ethanol and filtration method quite a bit. Thanks again for recommending it. I am going to work hard to get some amber on my next run so any additional info you have on my method would be great!

:yeahthats. i followed the thread's advise and had a successful first run with o'kief and 2-6oz colilbri. thanks for the guidance everyone. i may have packed the tube too tight this run. next time i'll use a rectangular pyrex instead of round. it was a pain scraping the edges.

very powerful stuff. very head high. great taste.

notice the bubbles, is this normal or an indication of something i did wrong.

dont give it another can. those are trike husks. you will get maybe .3 more of really dark oil. not as good and not worht the butane.

the bubbles are prolly mostly terpenes. if you purged it perfectly it will be all terpenes. if one is unsure it their oil sample is purified or not, if it is made liquid with heat and you try to light the bubbles as gently as possible with a torch flame, if they catch on fire there is butane left. but many bubbles that look like that wont flame at all, and therefore are not butane, but terpenes, offgassing.
