Best cloning gel/powder

Clonex cloning gel. I used to used Olivia's but didn't have that much success with it. As soon as I switched to the Clonex I noticed my clones rooted quicker and I had a higher survival rate. The Olivia's is like a gelatin and the Clones is like a gel. Also I like the fact that the Clonex is blue, much easier to see on the stem. I just recently got some of House and Garden's Root Excelurator samples and I am going to soak my medium in a solution of it to see if it can increase my survival rate and get clones to root quicker.

I make my own paste type that i use. I mix powdered rooting powder with some powdered ascophyllum nodosum(sea kelp) powder. Mix in a little maixcrop dilute, recut the tip than dip in the paste and plant.

Clonex works great for me. I even use it in my ezclone and just transplanted my cuts. 68/69 success. Half showed roots at five days, my earliest yet. I also use their clone solution in the cloner at about 5ml/g.
The clonex gel sometimes causes the whole stem where dipped to turn white and enlarged like it is a massive tree root.

Clonex seems to be the most effective. I've noticed the stem-enlargement myself.

It has warnings on it about skin contact/eye contact/etc., so you know it works.

I clone in a humidome/cell tray filled with coco, soaked in 1/4 strength Sensi Bloom or FloraNova Grow, with a layer of coco in the bottom of the tray itself (between the tray and the cell inserts). Since switching to Clonex and adding the coco underneath, when my roots pop, they grow to be 3-4 inches within the first day or two.

+1 for roottech gel, 100% every time. -1 for both Olivias and Hormex, both of which suck ime. Olivia's doesn't even have any rooting hormones in it!

Aw heck, my 2 cents. Roottech for me. I did have to learn not to scrape the bottom tho and have noticed also on some clones massive swelling of the stem. Sometimes big enuff at harvest you might think the plant was much older just judging by the stem diameter on the bottom few inches. Better support maybe???

clonex purple, bunnings, growth tech, yates all the same growth tech makes it . dutch master is not as thick as id like come summer but thats more of a storage issue, works well but not clonex or canna

Clonex, or Olivia's. I get 95-100% with both, I get more roots faster, however, with Clonex.

The most important factors for a rooting compound is the ability for it to stay on the cutting and the hormone levels that signal the activity of the hormone auxin.

These are the hormones that signal auxin:

Indole-3-butyric acid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indole-3-butyric_acid (this is the most common)

1-Naphthaleneacetic acid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1-naphthaleneacetic_acid

Indole-3-acetic acid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indole-3-acetic_acid (this is the least likely used)

With that said, I'll use any rooting hormone that has a high % of IBA, that is also cheap.

On a side note: I believe keeping the medium and plants in the right moisture content and at the right temps/humidity, with a slight amount of balanced nutrients/proper ph is just as important, it not more so, then what rooting hormone you use.

The best one I have used is the Pro Horticultural stuff, Synergol Rooting Hormone....


It comes concentrated, you use it diluted at about 5:1 or 7:1 for softwoods like Canna, needs to be kept in a Fridge. It works so well that, after testing, my local Hydroshop ended up selling it in little bottles relabelled.... It is about £50 for 1L, but that makes 5L or 7L of rooting hormone, enough for most ppl.

SuperNaturals root burts powder combined with its rockwool soak and I get 100% everytime in 4in rockwool .....sumtimes in less than 5 days if the moms were feed good an growin fast....also depending on genetics depends on clonein styles, my la con is pure indica with short fat jagged leafs and takes alot of humidy and care to root where as my sativa based casey jones will root in a window with little more than tolite bowl water .....It dont even require a dome.....as does my nl#5 haze......

supernatural all the way, you can foliar spray the rockwool soak to maximize growth ..tip is just mix to proper ph of 5.5 from the start instead of messing up the ppm and ec ....with my bad tap water i let my water cure 24- 48 hours ......

peroxide will aide if you dont go over board.........and should be bought from a horticulture supplier so you get a plant specific fomula ...

keep moms feed heavy organic bloom mix for roburst healthy clones.I like have synthetic floranova bloom and grow mixed with fox farm grow big. This is a mix that the plant must build tolorence to over time.

Ive used them all at some point. I don't like rooting gels at all anymore. they make some cuts curl up and they wont uncurl til you rinse them off. I personally think that gels are unnecessary if your genetics aren't lame.. Its all about the medium that you clone in and temp.

I have used every product mentioned hear except the hormex liguid but it sounds alot like the KLN liquid I use now, add a cap full to a glass of water and let sit for 15 minutes, its like viagra. I have lost 2 cuts in the 2 months sinse I started using it.Thanks resin rider

I like Dyna gro root-gel it has both iba & naa (auxin and cytokin) so dose KLN

i have tried cheap to expensive powders and gels, they all performed about the same for me. these days i just use a little raw honey, doesn't go bad, full variety of trace vitamins, has antiseptic properties, can be organic, and it works just as good for next to nothing cost wise. tastey stuff too. mr celsius said it best, enviroment is the biggest deterimining factor of success.
