Theoretical question, I'm learning at the moment-no practical breeding is in motion yet. :
Backcrossing a Dominant trait.
OK so I have my recurrent parent which I have worked to a point where it has all the traits I want, except for that is taste.
So I also have a plant which has the taste I want to incorporate with the recurrent parent.
So what is the best way to do this? Is it by backcrossing?
HAHA just when I think I'm starting to understand this, someone asks me a question and I'm stumped.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Recurrent parent (F) x Donor parent (M)-Has taste

F1 Hybrid gen

So I have the best plants showing the dominant taste trait. (|=best plants)
Obviously to judge taste I could only select Female plants from the F1 generation. So if my recurrent parent is Female, and the F1 generation plants (||) that I have chose for taste are female, then how can I carry on to the next backcrossing stage which would be to hybridize the recurrent parent with the donor parent when both are female plants?
