my eyes are too poor to enjoy reading regular sized printed text from books, there are really a very limited number of LARGE print books that could hold my interest and so it's looking like a Kindle is in my future.

I'd like to know your opinion if you've used one or if a close friend/family member has one they've told you about.

which model to buy:

Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Wi-Fi, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology..... $139.00

Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology..... $189.00

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 9.7" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology..... $379.00

with over 850,000 books on Kindle I'll be buying one for sure. I'm more inclined to buy the cheaper model as wtf would I need the 3G for? just overseas travel?

does size really matter? I suppose I'd have a few more lines per Kindle page on the DX model but is that worth an extra $240?

I've been interested in these since I first saw them advertised months ago. I didn't realize there were so many books already added to the "library". Never seen one up close but I think it'd be worth giving a shot.

3G would be useful if you plan on reading anywhere but home connected to your Wi-Fi, students, people at work, etc.

Thanks for reminding me I need to pick one up =D. One question, do you have to buy the "books", or once you get a Kindle you can read everything for free?

3G enables you to view websites, download books, etc. when you can't connect to a wifi signal.
My wife has the $189 version. She loves it.

There's a lady i work with who got one a kindle. (I haven't seen it myself) She says shes a big time reader. But once the ipad came out she sold her's and got the ipad and said she doesn't regret it one bit. If you were really considering the higher price model you listed. I'd say why not get the ipad, give you some more options other than just reading.

Good-luck!!!

If you get a kindle, you only need the base model. It is so easy to find a wi-fi connection, the 3g isn't needed.

I have one. It kicks ass. I bought the regular size version because I wanted something compact. I got it with the leather case that has the light built in. It's nice because you can read in bed laying on your side and don't have to mess with turning pages and fumbling around with a book.

Forget getting the iPad if you just want a reader. The backlit screen on an iPad is harder on your eyes and any kind of light will create a glare. For reading only nothing beats a Kindle IMO. The smaller one works better for me. Mine 3G wireless too. I wanted maximum flexibility.

I love mine. I'm reading History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell right now.

Do it. :joint:

I love my Kindle & you can adjust the font size to whatevers comfortable for you. B4 i had the kindle, reading used to put me to sleep cuz my eyes would feel so tired but with the e-ink, it's completely different...i read a book in 1 nite which is something i never do & my eyes didn't bother me at all.

there's a huge selection of books, mags, newspapers, etc. I found some interesting reads that i normally would've passed on but i got them cuz they were only 99 cents.

not really considering the high end model & only want it for reading so the ipad is out for me. I included it in the poll in case the members here voted it as best for some reason, I then would've made it a consideration.

get a color nook. its $250, and same hardware as the samsung galaxy tablet except no camera and 100mhz slower processor. once you root it you will have a great tablet for only $250. the galaxy is $500 so this is a real STEAL

i also have a kindle with the 3g. the hardest part so far is to find free books for it. the screen is amazing in direct sunlight
