That looks like a pretty severe caterpillar infestation! Past the threshold and time to spray. I usually see just a few little spots in the buds here or there that doesn't really cause major issues.

Yeah better stay on the caterpillars, they can be a problem. I do like some taste testers.

Do you put the dry ice right in the paint can with the flower with the mesh over it and shake it with a saws all? Good idea!

A couple of handfuls of Buds and about 2 cups of golf ball sized chunks of dry ice. 60 second shake at low / medium speed

Is dry ice just compressed and frozen CO2 I guess?

Thanks for the tips! I guess you chop up the buds or is it even necessary with the dry ice?

When you have a bit of time @BrassNwood, could you explain how the hashmaster 5000 works, such as the connection to the canister, (it looks like a paint can). I've thought about using a sawzall before, your setup is brilliant mate. thank you BrassNwood sir.

Broken stub of a blade joined to an angle bracket. Others have simply heated and bent a heavy duty saw blade. Use a plastic 1 gallon paint can as the metal ones tore the base out in just a few minutes.

Caterpillar damage. The only spot so far.

Clones and seedlings. I dropped 20 bag seeds in 1 cup and I'll sort who comes up.

Patio SIPs didn't get any light assist when they were set out and the 6 of them jumped to flower in early July.

Main garden. All got high PH water foliar spray for powdery mildew at first light and BT Thuricide for the Caterpillars at dusk.

Caterpillars have been bad despite my best efforts with BT Thuricide and a bug zapper. I've about 20 tops like this. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Some of the early harvest.

20230924_143111.jpg

The rest. These are 24-0 plants that didn't get held in veg at set out and stayed small and flowered early as a result. The rest of the yard plants are kept in veg with lights until Aug 1st and are several weeks behind this set..

I love free stuff. 1971 outboard. Free not running. Spins so... Shouldn't take much to get it running.

The off season is the perfect time to sort out the boys and girls.

Veg shed fired up. The plan today is to hammer out some Kief / Hash with a fellow grower and show him the ways of the Hashmaster 5000.

Nice project getting that old outboard running again BNW. That's great sharing your hashmaster 5000 procedure with a local grower.

We got my buddy buds knocked out early in 3 loads and I went back to hammering the rest of last summer (black bucket filled twice from 1/2-gallon jars) and this spring's set (pair of trashcan lids)

Hashmaster 5000 got a hell of a workout. This was the first time I've run 20 pounds of dry ice and likely the last as well. It was way too much to tackle in one shot and my back is screaming at me.

On and on and load after load.

Take 5 for a drink and a toke.

Final take with roughly 20 grams of Hash per jar.

I needed to put the rush on this set of hanging plants so they got stripped and in the sun for an hour then dumped in a 5 gallon bucket for the night.

This latest shake generated about 4 gallons dry measure of bud scraps to go with the 3 gallons of scraps I'd been decarbing. So, the question is do I just keep making the same dirty FECO I've been doing for years or finally try and clean up that act.
I've got 7 gallons of scraps, 10 liters of still recovered 160ish proof alcohol and no freezer space so room temp it'll be as I don't see a way to get the cold in the quantity I'd need in the backyard.
