I was blinded for a full minute and shoved into a couch by a narco officer because of word of mouth. Its retarded how easy they get warrants from snitches and piece of shit informants. They go in on a rat's whim, tear shit up, and hope they find enough evidence to intimidate the victim into copping a plea deal that involves a cash settlement with the state. Fucked up judicial system we got here. How did they get the warrant, that's what I want to know? I wouldn't think the word of your ex-wifes friend is enough, there had to be something more to it.
Lady,
"Ya my girl's ex husband grows weed and lives there."
Cop,
"Thanks I am going to get a warrant, because your word alone as a pal of this guys x will be really objective and reliable, enough on it's own to get a warrant."
Good luck, but keep it in the back of your mind, there may have been something else in combination w/ the snitch. Almost had to be I would think but maybe I am wrong.
Public Defenders in Texas are simply lawyers that practice in the county that are assigned to specific cases as a "good will" thing. I got lucky, my PD was a former Federal Prosecutor, knew the judge and DA personally, and got my shit dismissed. Its all about finding the right lawyer, not the right price. Evaluations/Estimates are usually free. Shop around.
