Actually, I followed the link given here (about BBC) - and in the first line it said "minority of complaints about vuvu's" so then I stopped reading.

fwiw, even before these trumpets, crowds singing was high in dB, so I'm really very sorry I don't/can't accept your argument about noise at football matches. It's just a different noise is all.

I'm going to celebrate along with the best of 'em - god knows I've had sh!t this year, so I'm gonna grab fun where I can

The world record for the loudest human scream is 129db. That's almost exactly the same noise level as those vuvuzelas. Shouting, screaming, and singing crowds don't make anywhere near the noise that shouting and screaming crowds incessantly blowing vuvuzelas do.

Besides, I bet most people here would rather hear singing and cheering than those bloody horns.

It depends on the sport. Golfers need almost total silence to remain focused on their game. Tennis players and snooker players need almost complete silence too. Footballers can tolerate lots of cheering and shouting, but even they are saying the vuvuzelas are too much.

Snooker, tennis, and golf certainly aren't minority and elitest. Tiger Woods isn't the highest paid athlete in the world for playing a minority sport.

Not only the South-Africans are using the Vuvuzela.In Europe are about 1.5 million Vuvuzela's sold, so SA's are not the only one who is blowing the Vuvuzela.

Rubbish, perfectly reasonable to complain about an incredibly irritating droning noise that destroys your enjoyment of the football.

The BBC has had over 500 complaints and are going to try to process the audio so the vuvuzela noise is not so prominent.

I had to watch Brazil vs Korea with the sound turned off today, I lasted about 10 mins before the droning noise got too much.

what SA loses in future events, it will possibly more than make up for in Regeneration Grants granted by those world-wide orgs whose names I cannot recall just yet - like the International Monetary Fund, World Health Org, etc, you get the idea.

Now that SA has the world stage, it won't take much to highlight the plight of those barely surviving in 3rd world desperation, poverty, civil war, despotic dictatorships and greed.

Vuvu's or not, any publicity is good publicity.
