24hours the sun dont sleep so neither do my vegging plants
We go with 24 hours since we used to run an NL that had some autoflower tendancies. Under 18 hours she would start to put out flowers, really stunting her growth in veg and making her ridiculously hard to clone.

Wait you ran autos or they had tendancies of being autos? And if you ran autos, how easily are they to clone?! I didnt know you could clone from em
24 hrs. for me. I'd rather have piece of mind, then a flowering plant from something simple as a broken timer. It's also easier to get temps dialed...and the plants like that. If paying for an additional 6hrs of light is a stretch in the wallet, growing dope probably isn't a good hobby.
No he's saying some strains are more photosensitive then others. Cloning an AF plant is useless in many, many ways.
I've put 100's of clones outdoors after 24hr veg/rooting. It sucks. They always waste time and energy between flowering and revegging instead of just growing like I'd like. I think it was mentioned, after they root, try turning back the timers to get them used to a different light cycle.
Once a thread goes bad it doesn't get better too quick I've learned. Tryin to keep the peace up along with the knowledge.
Truer words have never been uttered here.
it actually depends on how bright your vegging lights are, if the plant is receiving an optimum amount of light during it's lights on period, then it will be happier with a dark period of 4-6 hours because it does perform some of its processes better during the dark period.
if you veg under week lighting then 24/0 may be better.
also a plant vegged with a dark period will start to flower a bit quicker and therefore with a little less stretch bacause it will already have some flowering response 'in the bank' because it has had a dark period.
there was a long and bad tempered thread about this a while back.
