A requiem for change (soil to hydro)

looking at things in the cab tonight and im thinking about running 12 sites for the NL (indica) and the full 16 sites for the SS (sativa).

i think i can get away with an 8/8 but they would have to be staggered 4xNL/4xSS/4xNL/4xSS.

just jotting down what im thinking for future reference.

400MH to start than i switch to the 400HPS. i normally like to switch for the 3-4wks of the grow. i used to run them at the same time, but i needed to cut back on my power usage

well the shittiest thing that i could imagine happened, but now that im typing and i think about it, it is all my own fault.

all of the SS were males so that leaves me with 3xNL to flower out (smdh) so that means that im going to have to get drastic with my cloning efforts.

i had a mom that i transferred from soil to hydro. im going to take that NL mom tand put it back in hydro, veg it out for like a month and clone the shit out of it. while thats going on i'll deal with this SS shit.

problem: i think i may have had some cuts left over from the SS male that i tossed. since they flourished i grew them out without labeling them.

so for next/this time i know to label my shit. gotta kick myself square in the ass though cause i siad that i was gonna make sure everything gets labelled . . . oh well, im just thankful i dont have to start from square 1.

BAD NEWS
went into the flower cab on 3/6 and noticed that the SS were all males. Theres a reason for this an I honestly have no one to blame but myself. I didn’t do something that I said I was going to do and that was be more diligent in labeling my cuts/clones this time around.

the culprits (didnt want to post all the pics cause its all the same anyway and who wants to see males pods on a supposed female plant?):




I can only guess that the problem occurred during my taking of cuts form what the SS moms I had and AFTER identifying a male plant among the moms didn’t bother to toss any of the cuts that were taken before I found out that the mom was an actual dad.

So now im down to 3xNL in flower under a 400MH. This marks the 2nd official week of flower so in the next 2wks im going to switch the light to the 400HPS to finish things off.

here they are all bent outta shape and getting those inner budsites some much needed light . . .

GOOD NEWS
Ive been monitoring the cuts in the top of the veg cab and was amazed and relieved to see what I saw. Almost every cut I took was bursting with roots just as I imagined that they would in the 50/50 mix. The only things that I need to remember to do is to cut away that top/outer layer at the bottom of the cut before I dip it in to the rooting hormone powder.

Heres some pics of what I said I was going to do and how it would be much easier on me:

first i take the rooted cut out of the cup. it doesnt take much to tell whether its rooted or not. break up the mix just like in soil by squeezing the container


then rinse the root ball off in a cup of nute'd water




heres a better shot of the rootball all rinsed off


place inside the netcup and bring it over to the hydroton bucket where the cup gets filled up and put into the bubble cloner for an extended stay


pulling the cuts out, once rooted, is not that hard of a task to do. once you pull on the cut its self and you can feel whether its rooted or not. just loosen up the mixture and pull it out slowly and as you pull it up and out its best to keep squeezing the cup in order to continually loosen the mixture up as you pull it out.

the tmps in the cab have been great and i think thats the reason i was able to get them to root. it took about a month but that is due to me growing in the cold. i would say with the proper conditions it should take no more than 7 - 10 days to start to see roots.

i normally keep a clear cup on the cuts as a humidity dome but once they have rooted you can keep the dome off and water the now rooted plant

Since I was having the troubles I was having with the males ive decided to place all the NL cuts in the bubble cloner for now and see what I can do to test out the other SS mom/potential dad plants I have, so it looks like its couchlock season around here folks!

next update im going to take pics of the cuts in the cloner setup

Moms
Took some pics of the moms after I took some cuts. These plants are funny though, I decided that its been a while since I last watered them and a few days after they decided to grow past the lights! Lmao, so I kinda had to take some cuts; besides the other ones are kinda skimpy and small. I know theyre gonna root but its gonna be a while.


Cloner
They’re just down there chillin right now getting bigger day by day. I honestly was expecting larger growth since they’ve been in there so im going to maybe pH their water and replenish/swap out whats there. Its 5gl for sure so I can measure the pH down accordingly

FLOWER CAB
Ofcourse while bumping around with the veg cab I had to go and check on my three ladies. They are lookin good though and from what I can tell its summing up to be about a 4oz grow give/take a gram or two.

Im thinking maybe I should name them since this is my first official hydro grow. Maybe you guys can give me some hints if its worth it to you! Lol

Wanna keep this diary short and simple with alotta pics to see of whats going on. As you know the updates are coming every week so I’ll be trolling around till then!

and BTW, as im sure youve noticed, i havent really been talking about the BB cause its gone, tossed out on its ass.

i transplanted the BB to a cup and was gonna take some cuts from it, but i just wasnt interested any more. im diggin on the NL right now since ive had that before, im looking forward to the SS because those males were really big sativas and i liked that not to mention they took off like rockets in hydro so im expecting the females to be a better sight to deal with.

really cant wait for this grow to come through!

there, i said it, and now that is off my chest, lmao, although they are the only company ive ever ordered seeds from, the service experience is exactly what i would have wanted. i can only pray that when i order seeds from someone else i get the same treatment i got from peakseed......

there like 4 more strains they have that i want to try! been dealin with the slow growth of the cold weather so nothings flowered yet, but im waiting on these NORTHERN LIGHTS and am currently trying to straighten out my SWEET SKUNK male/female issues. all in all i should DEFINITELY have something for 4/20 this year!!!!

yeah its a shitty thing for me since ive done this once or twice before so you'd think i would have learned my lesson by now.

gonna come back with pics of the SS cut i put into the flower cab. i figure ive got a couple more weeks of flowering to go so it should show me something within that time.

its a cut that i took from the known female SS moms i have, so just to be sure that they are indeed mom plants i want to flower this one out . . . juuust to make sure.

sorry to all who read,

been really busy with studying for exams and still am in the middle of studying. just a lil note as to why no real updates as to the goings on. really quick though:

FLOWER CAB
things are progressingly nicely, NL is in full bloom, since its cold that tacks on another couple of weeks since the weather has been real funny as of late. have the two SS "moms" to actually see if they are in deed mom plants at all its been lil less than two weeks since this post has gone up till about the time you read this.

VEG CAB/MOMS.
these damned NL moms are relentless about growing, doing really well in the extra space. will be doing a major cutting from them to make up for the lost cuts i would have if and when i would have to toss those SS plants.

VEG CAB/CLONER
plants are getting bigger slowly but surely, was always worried about the 12xspots being able to fill the cab BUT ive learned that running the NL's means that they are going to need that space to grow out. hopefully ill just get alot of major tops, so ill be ale to top them once they get to a descent flowering height

VEG CAB/ CUTS
cuts are getting bigger even in teh cups. this 50/50 hempy style mix is working real well. alot more roots than soil, responds real well when transplanted to the cloner, can be maintained for a long time with no problems, no worries of being rootbound. i water with 1cc of micro/flora per. 1gl of water, and it works really well.

things could be better

i've seen this happen so many times when i start to do one of these diaries and it always leads me to not keep up with them. everything was good up until i nodded off and my 15month old son got a hold of my phone and left a good couple of teeth marks at the bottom of the BB TORCH key/menu pad, its the bottom strip with the lil track pad.

so with no money in the budget for anew phone all of my pics are stuck on it with no way to get them off. notes, numbers, various i deas, all friggin gone man.

the grow didnt come out how i would have wanted it too, but the cost to run those lights with only three plants under them would have made up for the cost, so i had to cut my cost a lil early. and i think im gonna stop using that HPS lamp i have and just grow out with the MH or get a full spectrum bulb down the line.

and since they got pulled early i cant recoup anything in order to buy nutes for the next run!

you know what though, i made it this far so fuck it, just gotta hustle the rest some how, as for updates . . . . forget that for now.

current pics are dead and the prospect of getting new pics is dead. popped some new seeds in soil and they turned to complete mush and have no clue as to how!? ive popped numerous seeds and have been fine and these just all turned to mush for some reason.

uuuuuuuuuughghghghgggghhh fuck it.

im out for now, im gonna come back when things come back to a stable point.

what really kept me outta here also was being in school, and thats something i couldnt sacrafice the time for anyway.

so yo, i'll be back when things can start to look up but for right now. . . . . .man certain things are fucked up in some ways and certain things are fucking great in others, its just that the things that are fucked up are things that keep me off of here.

if theres anything good about it, i was able to do alot of cleaning up so that things can run alot smoother with the grow and whether or not im able to psot on here whats going on with the grow is whats important.
