4 strains in 2 sq ft: 168 w cfl scrog

Hey everybody:
I've just started a new grow in which I'll be trying to finish
4 different strains in my relatively small cab. My previous
grows in this cab were not too efficient, as it seemed there
were always empty areas not being used. Like this:

I figured if I use a screen to even things out a bit while
keeping the canopy close to the lights, I should be able
to yield a maximal amount of each strain. Here it is:

Left to right it's Pure Skunk, NL5, J2 (? plant from Joey Weed
mix), and C99xA11. They are all a few weeks into re-vegging
and I plan to veg at least another 2 weeks or so. None are
big stretchers, so I'll probably fill at least half the screen before
flipping the lights.

For food they're getting a dilute solution of Miracle Grow organic
liquid and fish emulsion once a week or so. Here's a closer look at
the group:

Thanks for stopping by...should get interesting in a few weeks!

looks like a great grow! many different strains in a scrog sounds very interesting

im definitly in, with front row couch :)

do post pictures of the outside of the cab, light fixtures, and exhaust! do go into detail.

and might i ask, what are those things going into your pots? looks interesting.

christoph'sbud: Thanks for looking in, you're definitely in the front row! I'll get more pictures up soon, but the light/vent is pretty basic. I use 4 42 watt cfls in an old bathroom vanity fixture mounted top rear. Fan is pulling thru top back center, and through a carbon filter.
Things going into pots are vacation waterers. I used to use them only on vacation, but then realized they work great in my small pots, providing as much water as the plants need without drenching them, so they still get plenty of oxygen as well. Like hydro only easier, cheaper, quieter and less messy. But, alas, not quite as fast and probably not as high yielding.

More soon...

PG-191: Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words...

christoph'sbud : These waterers are from a German company
called Blumat. They're not too easy to find in stores - I got mine
online someplace. They've been working great for a couple years now.

More pictures, probably tomorrow...not much happening just yet.

Hey friends,

Not much to report just yet. These re-vegging plants
are a bit slow compared to clones or seeds, and they
sure are ugly. Some are just reaching the screen today.

christoph'sbud:The plant waterers work kind of like
drinking straws. As long as there is water in the reservoir,
the plant will suck it up. The higher the plant is from the
reservoir, the slower the flow of water. I just try different
heights until the plants are not too wet or dry.

More as stuff happens...

Lookin nice dopeeyo. My first scrog is in action too, just a bit bigger than yours. Good luck with it, can't wait to see how yours goes.

Welcome, sneaky101. Thanks for taking a look.

Here's how things look as of yesterday:

Again, not much happening now, but at this point
all the plants have reached the screen and are
starting to fill it. Each day I push any growth
coming up through the screen back down under
it again.

Hopefully, in a week or 2 I'll flip the lights for flowering.
Here's a closer look at the left side (Skunk and NL5)

And the right side (J2 and C99xA11)

More soon!

Not much new today, but last night I trimmed some small
shoots growing under the screen (but too low to make it
up to the screen), and I got a chance to feed the plants.
Pushing all new growth back under the screen is very
important now, in order to create new tops and fill the screen.
Each morning, it looks like this:

Then it all gets tucked under like this.

Super simple, no tying, no wires, no strings. Each
plant now has between 8 and 12 tops, so I'll need
to flip the lights soon. After the stretch, I'm hoping
to have a growth tip for each square of the screen,
or close to it.

And now for some soil micro grow root porn:

Okay, okay, it's kinda soft core...

More soon

Hey BC Chronic -

Looks like you'll have to settle for the top
of the 2nd page, man...:)

I can't wait to see the screen fill up, either.
And yet I must.

Here's where we are today - first, the
Skunk and NL5:

Next, the J2 and the C99xA11:

I need to correct something from last post.
I think I was high or something. I said
I wanted one flowering top for each square
in the screen. That's probably asking a bit
much, since there are 180 squares in this
screen, each just under an inch across.

So, that is not only a wildly unrealistic
expectation, it would leave almost zero
ventilation. Which would be bad. I'm
thinking more like having a fourth of
the squares full, which would give me
45 tops, or somewhere in that neighborhood.

With all buds at the same height and
distance from the lights, the buds should
be fairly uniform in size. I figure even
if I only average 1.5 to 2 grams per dried
bud, I should yield somewhere between
70 and 90 grams. If buds are bigger,
so much the better!

I guess we'll see.

Toasty!

Yeah, the screen's filling and the cab is warming up. The plants are showing stress - tomorrow I may lower the shelf
a bit, and/or increase the out-take fan's power. It has an adjustable voltage transformer currently running on 6 volts
(I think). 9 or maybe even 12 sounds better at this point. These girls are definitely hungry too!
Here's a close up of the Skunk (left) and NL5 (right):

And one of the J2 (left) and C99xA11 (right):

More soon, after I get temp under control.

JohnnyCannabean: Welcome and best of luck with your grow...

Quick-ish update: Everyone got food, water and a new pot.
I decided to switch from 16 oz (.47 l) to 32 oz (.94 l)
containers. The Skunk's pot sides were getting convex
from root growth, and the others weren't far behind.
The resistance of the screen really seems to spur on
the growth both above and below the soil.

The lights will probably go 12/12 in a day or 2. Each plant
now has at least 12 tops, so after the stretch I should have
the screen more or less full.

Thanks to all of you who have stopped by. I promise it will
be worth it when the buds start to look like this:
