Wow! Cigs are over $1 EACH here and fuel costs about $6AU per US gallon. I do remember when I was in the States in the late 90s that cigs were $11US a carton (10 packs) and $2US a pack from vending machines in bars. I couldn't believe that. Even then we were paying close to $20AU for a 30 pack of cigs. Don't get me started on the booze. I think I was paying 6 or 7USD for a bottle of Jack Daniels which cost over $30AU at the time.I was offered an opportunity to work as a laborer for a framing crew for 5 bucks an hour.
At that point an hour of my unkilled work would give me 14 gallons of gas, or 14 packs of cigs.
