Wow! Cigs are over $1 EACH here and fuel costs about $6AU per US gallon. I do remember when I was in the States in the late 90s that cigs were $11US a carton (10 packs) and $2US a pack from vending machines in bars. I couldn't believe that. Even then we were paying close to $20AU for a 30 pack of cigs. Don't get me started on the booze. I think I was paying 6 or 7USD for a bottle of Jack Daniels which cost over $30AU at the time.

Apparently Fox didn't report that the National Peoples' Congress just removed the President's term limit, making Xi Jinping effectively their new President for life.

If Trump keeps pursuing his trade war, we Americans will be the ones who will crack first. If you think China will crack anytime soon, you've obviously never set foot there. Their economy is booming, and rapidly becoming a simple market-driven capitalist economy. The Chinese people love President Xi, because he has brought about the market reforms that are driving their economic boom.

They don't need trade with us nearly as much as we depend on trading with them for our cheap shit. I've spent enough time in China to feel confident that the Chinese people are a tough bunch, willing to endure temporary hardships for the good of their fellow man. I can't say the same of my American neighbors. We're so ridiculously self-centered that we aren't willing to endure the slightest discomfort, for any reason.

I can see why you'd think that China has such strength, but the situation is actually a lot more complicated than that. China's system has been building itself up bit by bit off of low-margin junk products and has finally started to produce quality products in some cases with good working conditions in some cases. Their housing market is gigantic, but its also hopelessly full of fraud and actually finding a quality builder in China is very hard(not because they aren't able to build well, but the culture right now really discourages quality). Most importantly; the political class in China has become accustomed to quite lavish lives and aren't willing to cut back on their excesses. In some cases rich and politically powerful Chinese people build entire cities, force people to move there, and then find that they abandon them after a few years because there's barely any jobs, supply logistics aren't in place, and a host of other problems. China's economy is a lot more fragile than they'd like others to think it is. More importantly, they can't crash the dollar because they are deeply dependent upon it. Trump's trade war with China isn't necessarily as stupid as it sounds. Its really bad for the common people of both nations though. Everything the neoliberal establishment does is about funneling money upward and further entrenching the financial elites.

Cigarettes and gasoline prices have gone up artificially between taxes and war, the prices of a gallon of milk, loaf of bread and a dozen eggs will be more accurate in judging inflation.

As for gas and cigarettes here 2.79 a gallon of gas and probably $5 for the cheapest pack of cigarettes $6.15 for Camels anyway. I also seen a sign at Walmart starting $11-12 an hour. Let's say the minimum wage is regulated by the feds $12, sounds good, just not as good in California as New England though we wouldn't be doing as good as a McDonald's employee in Alabama. Bernie Sanders $15 federal minimum wage theory just does not work. Can't give a cotton picker $15 an hour without losing the cotton industry losing us lots of jobs in the poorest states of the country.

I wouldn't have a problem with a nation becoming better than America, just seems like we are the only nation with freedom of speech and that alone is a pretty big deal. The world has had plenty of time to follow, it's only been in our constitution since 1776, along with the right to bear arms so we will never see the tyranny of the British, Soviets, etc.

There is nothing stopping a nation from becoming just as good if not better. Only problem is about the next best nation the UK locked up that Tommy Robinson guy for speech, there was also that guy who taught his dog to do a Hitler salute, kind of stupid, kind of funny, certainly not a crime. Not to mention knife control and the fact you can't kill a man in self defense. As nice as the UK is with some things, it's still pretty fucked up.

The free market is why the minimum wage in my state is $7.50 but they are starting $11-12 at Walmart $11 McDonald's. Ain't nobody going to work for $7.50, for them to employ decent workers they are forced to pay well over minimum wage.

Honestly we don't even need a minimum wage.

Socialism just won't work either, Social Security is a complete mess and we're supposed to trust them with more of our money?

If so, who gets to choose where the line is?
If not, can anyone say anything at any time without any consequences?

You should be able to speak openly. A transgender is a gay person with a mental illness. Many Muslims do believe in the Caliphate and live by Jihad, many rape little boys and marry young girls before they even menstrate. They rape women for not wearing a sheet, even in Western nation's.

Yet they throw people in jail for so called hate speech even though it's true. What's next? They going to say anything slightly right wing is hate speech? Oh wait, that's already being done. Yeah, Europe is still living under tyranny.

most of the mass shootings and crimes ive seen lately, not to mention alllllll the tweakers meth heads heroin junkies robbers, thieves, rapist, murderers, politicians, liars, anti cannabis people...they are white dudes

when i was locked up, it wasnt full of muslims or transgender people, it was a fuck ton of loser ass punks, looked just like the president and the last 40 of them..get off your white high horse and live in reality...

I don't believe I ever said white people are perfect. You have black, white, Arab, Asian, Indian etc. Muslims, a lot of Arabs are actually white, Alexander the Great visited the Middle East, the silk road went through, the Muslims attacked Europe then came the crusades. Yeah, you are pretty ignorant to act like I'm racist when talking about Muslims.

Also white people ain't the best, as far as IQ goes Asians test slightly higher on average. :biggrin:
