I think the US & Japanese governments avoid the subject -

because if they admitted the full extent of the damage, the economy might slow down a bunch.

TEPCO and the Japanese government have been keeping a tight lid on news of any kind out of Fukushima, for the reason that the news is always holy-shit bad.

NOTHING about the situation is “contained” and they are largely going through the pointless motions of a clean-up. The reactor buildings are all too hot for humans in suits to survive even short exposure, high-tech efforts, specially hardened against the radiation, have managed to verify the meltdown of the cores before being destroyed from the exposure. They have no idea where the cores are, and a river continues to flow unimpeded through the reactor basements and into the sea.

The millions of tons of water they have bagged up are just for show: the water is untreated, it’s barely a drop in the bucket compared to the volume of the river, and they’ve decided it’s okay to dump them when they run out of space for “more”.

The situation has remained unchanged, in essence, for 8 years.

Hell, your offset from the street could violate proximity to infrastructure...geez.

Bad law. Bad law ON PURPOSE.

If you’re not familiar, meet ALEC: the “American Legisative Exchange Council “

Just in case you wonder about how all those very similar bills tend to show up as state legislation from time to time, ALEC is your ‘guy’.

If you want the short form of what they’re getting away with, look up Dick Koch’s platform from when he ran for president (shortly after buying the Libertarian Party): I’m sure it will all seem very familiar

Alaskans along the Sunshine/Talkeetna Jct-to-Willow, Alaska stretch of the Parks Hwy (a 28-mile distance that has seen single-lane pilot-car escorts and closures for almost a week) will be informed today whether or not they lost their homes and possessions, in what was a fast-moving fire, during record-setting, dry, hot weather for South Central Alaska.

At this time, for many/most of them, this is like a meeting to hear the winners (or losers) of a lottery.

No doubt it will be a devastatingly somber meeting; as of several days ago the news had stated that over 50 structures were lost, in a stretch that primarily consists of rural residential subdivisions.

Edit: Current tally stands at 51 homes and 3 businesses, with most of the losses near the original starting point of the fire, near 91 mile Parks Hwy. Locals still reportedly were awaiting news of whether they'd lost their homes or not.

Feature story in the Anchorage Daily News re. one family that got out with their flock of poultry and themselves, maybe a dog or so, as well.

Fast-moving fire, heat and winds, led to fast evacuation.

What to grab when the folks show up at your door, and tell you there's only moments to grab what you can and flee. Family and dogs? (Certainly). Cash and credit cards? (YEP!!). Original documents, such as passports, land titles, vehicle titles, etc. (ALL of which ought to be already gathered into a common folder, for these purposes). Bag of weed? (Gonna' need -that- later, considering...). Tequila? (Yep..).

Way too much adrenaline in that affair to even consider fully.

I don't know the total acres on this year's Amazon fires.

Russia is up to about 12 million acres in Siberia.

Russia had about 47 million acres of Siberia burn in 2003.

This year's fires in the Amazon be-speak Desperation to me.

The Brazilian economy is not strong.

People need to do ANYTHING to survive.

According to a report on NBC “heterosexuality is just not working.”

Brought to you by the same media that says:"Cuckolding can be positive"

The liberal media really hates the traditional family.

These days the liberal agenda seems to be intertwined with the corporate pap agenda.

Problem is, those fires are all ‘spontaneously’ starting just where Bolsonaro’s friends want the land cleared, so of course the fires get blamed on “his opponents”...there is desperation indeed, but subsistence communities don’t burn down their grounds to keep someone else from burning it: the people of the forest are being burned out and blamed for it.

Biggest problem I can see is that the world might decide it can’t leave this up to Brazil, that the fires have to be put out NOW, no matter what Bolsonaro wants.....

AOC is a very interesting one to look at closely, ever look at
the background of those who financed her ?

Yes and also aware of the fact she answered a casting call for an actress by those people who finance her..... and she reads from the script they provide. When she attempts to go off script she exposes herself as a clueless idiot.
