And a renewable resource (if ya care about that kind of thing). These crabs are unique in that you can harvest one claw, the crab still lives and will regenerate the claw that was harvested. It's not a quick process, but carefully managed it keeps the population stable and healthy.

The only real predators of these crabs are man and octopus. Last year there was an abundance of octopi and the commercial crabbers suffered. When the traps are full of crabs and an octopus finds the trap, it's an all u can eat buffet!

And you don't want to fuck up when handling these bad boys. At best you'll get an extremely painful pinch and at worst, a crushed or very mangled finger or two.

As shellfish go, I like these as much as a good Maine lobster.

Hey harry,

Are those Rocoto chili's? I used to grow them and they definitely are missed. I used to cut them up in chunks and dry them. Put 'em in a spice jar and pop into whatever for good heat and flavor. And they store well. I'm running out, need to grow them again but they can be finicky.

Costa Rica chillies

First time I grow them. I´m keeping seeds.
I would love to grow them several years in a row, to see how they evolve. I guess they´ll go sweetening like all the peppers that were brought here centuries ago.
