I want dimmables because on hot days you can dim them down to control heat. It's also adjustable if you ever wanted to so something else but jeez are they spendy compared to magnetics which I got now. I do like that I can replace parts with the magnetics. Can you do something like that with electric ballasts or do you have to buy a whole new one if it breaks?

First purchase, was older model, still using it, runs like a charm and gets hot but not hot enough to manipulate my grow space with another next to it at ceiling level.

The 2nd purchase was a newer model.

Ive had the 1st one since I started and I was going to push it 3 years and swap it out for a "name brand" model.

I don't like how the knob for the dimming can come off the first model, BIG WOOP, thats it. Maybe lack of LED indicator light, but you can feel the airfrom the fan/ hear them when on if close enough to the unit.

I dimmed bulbs while on with them, up and down. Moved them around. I dust them out quarterly while off and with compressed air.

Ive used Apollo bulbs and only Ushio, only the bulbs gave me problems. MH and HPS

If you need just ballasts, Id say good purchase. Combo purchase good for a college student like me on a budget.

The newer model ballast is really nice, i'll take pics of mine if you want.

Id say the only reason to get a different ballast would be electrical efficiency. They all are composed of the same things, except some with smarter computer chips than others and different heat sink designs/colors.

I'd get a REALLY GOOD HOOD and quality bulbs. Thats my next grow room upgrade. New hoods, i think after that I'll be moving into something bigger and better and should have a whole new setup underway.

140$ on amazon with free shipping for apollo 1k ballast

Sols tek is a great company also, and phantom too.

What ever you do, DONT' GET LUMATEK!

how are you going to set up your vert? I've wanted to do a v-scrog but haven't yet looked into it much yet. not so much a V but more of a U shaped screen. seems less complicated than vert, plus you get a little bit more sq footage on your screen and even brings up the edges to more light opportunity.

thought I answered this, but ill be using the left over screen and tying it to the wall and then ill be tying the plants to the screen ill be stacking the bulbs and placing a honey well fan underneath like everyone else , ill be transplanting to 3 gallon pots (maybe) and setting up a drip line to feed , I plan to run jacks veg + calnit or Epsom salts ive seen some good things done with this I have to order bulbs and cords and one more ballast ...atleast I don't have to buy a hood
