:tiphat: I get the same chlorosis but the usual dose of Epson salts or this lately seems to fix.View Image cmx. here's a shot of last nights new growth you can see at 1000 at 36 inches.View Image wonder if it is your combined lighting = like over lapping lights to much??

Perhaps it could be too much.

I'd love to figure them out. I own a grow store and if I could get them to do what I was promised they'd do...I'd push the shit out of them.

this won't help much, but my experience with those digital ballasts like gavita has been good apart from my plants getting burned if they get within 1 foot of the lamps. but i'm not using 1k lights. but the main thing i have noticed is that even when i let the plants get a bit too close and got a bunch of burned bud, the over all yield was still fine at 1gpw. so in my case twas just a matter of getting the distance right. what my suplies guy told me too, those lamps are made for big green houses, for supplemental lighting, in those cases they are hung up really high, they stay fixed. maybe try putting them at top height and see how things go.

i was also wondering if you had successful runs in that room with other lamps, or is it a new set up which has showed these symptoms since you made it? if yes, you might want to consider off gassing?

So I just bought 4 gravity 1000.de I got a 36000 mini split con Berner how far do they need to be over the plants and my roof is only 10 foot any ideas

This! Got any PVC or some Chinese white plastic in the room?

You know...I'm pretty sure it isn't off gassing. Why? Because I like to harden the plants off under them for a week or so before I turn on all 8 lights. I fire half of them up in a checkerboard pattern for 9hrs. Then they turn of and the other four turn on for the remaining 9hrs of their light cycle.

The issue happens each time I turn on all eight. Noticeable the next day.

Obviously it's a light issue.

Lights are already pegged to the ceiling. Though I have these tray stands that I've designed and fabricated that you can just lower the canopy (both the pan that holds the plants and the trellis over the top of them telescope to whatever height I want.).

I can lower the trellis another three inches I think. 6" would be tough as the plants have grown into the trellis while trying to fix this issue.

This will be the third round in this room. And I've only used the Gavitas in this new room.

I'll give it another round or two. If I can't get my plants healthy under them, I'll just swap them for Daystars and run them high and hot.

Like you previously said, Its a light issue. How much can you lower your canopy now and in the future? Id hate to see you have to ditch these because you dont have enough head room. You've invested too much in them to not find a way to make it work.

I don't mean to sound obnoxious, but I think if you haven't had a successful run in the new room yet, I don't think you can auto attribute it to lighting. Maybe it is lighting, but you're running into issues none of us have seen with the Gavitas. I know you're a hydro store owner, so I'm sure you're very knowledgable, but maybe you could tell us what other equipment you have and how you built out the room. That might help. It would suck if you changed the lights, but had the same results.

Another thing, if you're so sure it's the lights, go ahead and throw a few Daystars in and see if the plants under those suffer from Chlorosis as well. Then you can rule in or rule out the lights without too much more stress.

Quick question:

I have 2 Gavita 1000e lights and an EL1 controller. One of my lights keeps flashing 4 red lights in a row on the status LED. That means it can't detect a signal from the controller. The controller seems to run the light just fine, however, I can't rely on the status indicator to tell me if something actually is wrong. This is also the second unit I have gotten. I had the first replaced under warranty for this issue.

The other light is running perfectly off the same controller. It flashes green in standby as it should.

Did I just get unlucky with 2 malfunctioning units or am I doing something wrong here? I've tried unplugging, I've replaced all the signal cords, I've tried pretty much everything I can think of.

Oh, I know that turning down the power loses efficiency, but does it lower the longevity of the lamps or affect the color spectrum? I want to turn my lights down to 50% during the first part of veg and crank them up when I hit flower.

Thanks!

Went back to the 4 on 4 off set up yesterday. Plants totally perked up over night and even the color is coming back in them. Turned off half the lights, plants immediately looked better.

I am indeed going to try to lower the canopy today.

I'm not positive of the reasoning for the semi-recall on the new "e" Gavitas...but they mentioned it was an issue with the status LED.

Maybe you have a bad one. Call the shop you bought them from.

As for the build out, because I'm lazy today (because it NFL Sunday bitches!!!!)...here's a couple of pics:

I originally totally sealed the room. For the second round, I added that LG 3 ton split (36k btu of cooling/38k btu of heating...for the first round I thought I could use the outside air because it was winter....WRONG...exhaust never turned off dropping humidity to darn close to zero....plants health was absolute shit). The room was completely sealed. However, am now using a 10" Max-Fan and 3 6" intakes ONLY when lights are off to control humidity (I hate dehumidifiers....draw so much amperage...cause heat...totally inefficient when compared to the incredibly dry air outside in Colorado). Works like a charm. Easily keep my humidity between 40-55.

When lights are on, it's all CO2. No fresh air brought in.

Heat stays between 72-78. Humidity between 40-55.

And let's be clear. When I say it's light, I believe that when I crank these things up, the food demands from the plants goes into overdrive.

I believe my problem is simply figuring out a sufficient diet. Fire up all 8 lights, plants suddenly look deficient in just about everything.

I'm actually surprised no one else has experienced this. Makes me go hmmmmmm.

And just because I'm a grow store owner doesn't mean I don't run into problems. It also doesn't mean I'm at the level of the growers I look up to.

I happily learn more everyday. I am above none of it.

DE bulbs are becoming quite popular. I believe it's essential I figure out this problem as it's important that I can solve similar problems for our patrons. And I'm pretty sure I will...because I've figured out every other problem I've ever run across in my years of growing.

There is a point, however, where you have to weigh the search for knowledge and the loss of livelihood against one another.

Budsworth, in my experience I think it is very likely you need to feed your plants more. Everything you've described sounds to me like the new lights are making them hungry. Don't starve them. Increase nutrient solution strength by about 15%-25% and see what happens.

This is my new plan:

Turned off half the lights. They immediately started looking healthy. Get them healthy again over the next week.....flip.

Immediately up the ppm's in the applied solution.

Each of these three times I've REACTED, and invariably I chase health the whole time (we've all been there). I think this time, I am going to try to be PROACTIVE and up the food when I introduce what causes them to go deficient BEFORE they show the deficiencies.

I'll of course share my findings. :)

I'm sorry for the crappy news, man. :(

But because everyone is aware of this problem, I don't see why you would have any problem swapping out the light. Though the fixed ones may not be available until the end of this month.

All of a sudden, having these "classics" doesn't seem so bad.

Ok, you have a nice looking room. Here is my last shot at it. In your room, I see the white plastic PVC and Panda plastic all over the place. I know that you blew off about the off-gassing earlier. Maybe you're right and that has nothing to do with it.

I will share you my experience with off-gassing. It only happens when the temp reaches a high enough level that off-gassing starts to occur. Maybe having the extra heat from the 8, not 4, Gavita lights is actually contributing to heating up that plastic, especially if it's a new room and new plastic.

There is an easy way to check this. Just put your 8 daystars up and see if you get Chlorosis. If you do get it with the daystars, I would tear down the white plastic and PVC first thing.

It can't hurt you, but it could help you. I can see you're quite frustrated with the situation. I don't blame you, but believe me, there is a reason and it's not as far down the rabbit hole as you think.

Best wishes!

Agreed. My issue is I don't have the Daystars or ballasts in my possession to do such a thing. I'd have to pick them all up. Obviously, as an owner, the economics of growing are different for me. However, that's still a fair amount of equipment and it still costs. And if that's not the issue, I've suddenly taken "new" equipment and turned it into "used" equipment.

I am going to go down a list of things, starting with the cheapest and easiest, and moving towards the expensive and invasive.

If upping my nutrients doesn't work, we'll work our way towards putting up Daystars.

I'm swapping out my E series lights for a pair of classics this afternoon. The controller is nifty but it was $259 and if it isn't going to work perfectly out of the box at that price I'll stick with what I know will. I could use another 8" fan to help with the heat from these anyway. Hell maybe a 10".
