K is doing some amazing work. Heard some crazy stories from him when we had dinner in Santa Rosa this summer. His work is ground breaking.

Thinly veiled "brag" / name-drop. ^^^^^

Which reminds me, it's great to live in a free country where we can discuss these topics, a free country led by Barack Obama who I had the great pleasure of shaking the hand of, at the White House dinner party back in 2012... What a great guy, that Barack Obama... heard so many great personal fishing trip stories, and oh man the pics in the family album!!!

j/k of course ;-)

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't know you were friends with Barry O too!? That's awesome. I think we were at the same dinner party... remember when he told us the exact date legalization will happen? luckily we're sitting on that info with our lawyers do we can capitalize first!!!!

He is separating terps and cannabinoids on a very large scale. He was set up somewhere in Santa Rosa the weekend of the cup with Vac ovens, dry ice, cold traps and a lb of hash oil so he had fresh batches to show off. I'm not sure where, but there is somewhere in cali that has his product on the shelf. Which is a gram of pure cannabinoids, with the amount of terps that should be in it separated for you to add back as needed.

I knew a guy in the Humboldt area that sold brown/black tanesoup shot from year+ old garbage trim to The Clear guys (do their names start with C & M?). He mentioned that they always had "the machine" covered up with a sheet or a tarp when visiting to drop off at their house (in SoCal), but got a small peek at it one day when it wasn't covered up as well. He described it as some sort of rectangular (taller than wide) microwave/oven-like device, and at that time I just assumed and wrote it off as it being a vacuum oven. It's all clicking now, that "the machine" was in fact likely a SFME device.

I've only skimmed this thread so apologies if I missed it, but is the NEOS (or other SFME devices) much more than a "standard microwave" with different power settings and a few bells and whistles (physical shape of oven, ports, cameras, magnetic stirrer, etc) used to heat the solution/material for vaporization or such? Being science-retarded, looks like a standard microwave could be jerry-rigged with a condenser and water chiller to produce similar?

For instance, I see:

I seem to remember seeing pictures of a winning dry sift entry in a competition that Sam then went on to clean up to 99.9%. I think he had pictures of what he cleaned and what he removed, so I believe there is a simple way to go from pretty clean sift to 99.9% without "losing" anything.

I haven't followed it for a while, but I believe Bubbleman was doing the same thing.

I believe there's a relatively cheap way to do that and in my opinion (and probably anybody who's tried pure dry sift heads) it is leaps and bounds better than any Clear product.

I always thought Sam's secret was having a lot of time on his hands and a nice pair of tweezers.

I mentioned it before, but Milestone didn't invent microwave distillation, they just have a nicely marketed machine with the NEOS.
There are companies out there that sell kits to extract essential oils from plants using home microwaves which is basically the same idea just with less control over heat, etc.

For this application, I really don't see any benefit to using SFME over steam distillation other than a couple reasons:

1) Any idiot can be taught how to use the machine. Load some concentrates in this flask, put it in there, touch this button on the touch screen and watch the camera. It doesn't require as much monitoring of the process.

2) Its a hell of a lot faster to do SFME over traditional steam distillation. When processing a lot of material, 30 minutes vs a few hours is a life saver. Anyone who has run both active and passive closed loop systems should know that.

3) The legality aspect. Using steam distillation could technically be argued as a solvent based extraction of a controlled substance. SFME says it all right there in the name, Solvent Free, does it still technically use steam? Yeah I guess, I have never used one of these things in person, but they have a much better argument on their hands using a technology sold to them as "Solvent Free".

I'm wondering how the clarity is achieved, from a black/brown BHO start.

I'm guessing something along the lines of dissolving in a solvent (ethanol?), placing in flask with vapor output connected to condenser, and "fraction" using either timing (first N minutes = black, remainder = good, or vice versa) or power levels or both.

How about any solvent that condenses and mixes back with the THC? Simply vacuum purge it out?

Wondering if the condensed THC will now gum up along the condenser tubing at those temperatures, or be able to flow out.

Don't worry bro, he's a "legal patient/caregiver". It's all good.

He also had the benefits of sleeping at the holiday in last night.

Chonski,

Forgive me if I'm a little behind the curve on this one.

The rotary evap. in the background of that pic is significant because it indicates that X tracted is winterizing at least some of there extractions, right?

Or is that old news and it's for something else?

Yes you are right, these were my thoughts exactly.

Then they take the flask with winterized absolute and send that through SFME, is my current bet

Just go to alpine vapor

"We further refine our Concentrates using a proprietary process, removing any remaining impurities and ensuring consistent potency."

Just a couple more old chums who either have a lot of money to invest, or figured out the easy shortcut like several of others popping up.

I have a good amount to invest for simple fun and being able to make my own 'raw solvent free', but nowhere near the cost of a neos, or any unit like it

Seems like the Clear people are trying to create a device, patent it, and get it to the market for a cheaper price than medical or high end lab grade.

As everyone has known the whole time, you can't patent (and profit) the idea of distillation and purification of essential oil.
