Purple Strains

hello everyone,
i am about to get me some purple seeds but im not sure which one.
I def. want some plants where the buds are purple, (kinda black would be awesome) but is there a big difference between them ?

I heard that many purple strains dont have that potency like others ?

Doestn matter if indica or sativa or hybrid just be Purple.

Any suggestions ?

Cheers

Oh man, you just missed the Relentless relist drop on Seedbay. He's done several purple crosses. Any would have fitted the bill I'm sure as he wanted to maintain the purple and bring some power to the show too.

He has another drop going up and some point. Check the threads in the SEEDBAY forum.

Go for CBG's Peyote Purple. There's no real difference in high between green and purple plants. I've never seen or heard anything to indicate potency differences. Some plants go purple later in the season because of genetics - almost all plants will purple in cold conditions due to phosphorus lockout.

I do not agree. In my experience purple weed is generally less potent. And in all the strains with purple pheno's, the green pheno was always more potent.

The most potent purple plants I ever had was Killing Fields by a breeder that may not be mentioned here. The green pheno is actually quite rare for that strain, but it should be excellent.

I've seen a lot of people say that despite PP's beautiful looks it lacks potency.

Also there is a difference between genetic purples and cold or P induced purples. There are some strains that purple even in the high 80's, I consider those genetic purples.

Like the DJ lines which will purple in almost any temp vs Pre 98 bubba which only purples for me in winter grows. There is some other nuances of purples strains I have observed but I'll save those for another thread, I think there is more to it then just temps, nutes or genetics.

PP's lack of potency has more to do with the amount of inbreeding to an already fairly inbred line(Bubba) than to do with the color. Given the complexity of inheritance in cannabis, especially drug cultivars, I find it entirely hard to believe that something as simple as the presence of anthocyanins or carotenoids could be tied to diminished potency. You might as well suggest the degree of serration on the leaf determines the level of potency. The problem with citing personal experience is we've all got a bit of it. Strongest weed I've ever smoked was purple, but that's correlation and not causation.

*If* there were a lack of potency in seed strains that are supposed to go purple(and I don't believe there is) it would have more to do with inbreeding depression to isolate recessive qualities than to do with the color of the plant.

I believe purples are less potent, and my reasoning is that they are less potent because they reflect blue and red spectrum light, because those are what you are seeing when you look at the buds, and reflecting more of the spectrum that your hid's are putting off leads to inefficient photosynthesis, green is better because it reflects greenlight, not the reds you want out of your sodium bulbs. Every purple strain I have grown has been tasty and visually appealing but usually the buzzes are calming, more anxiolytic, where as potency usually causes anxiety for me.

because they reflect blue and red spectrum light...

well seen !

but only the liver cell reflect, not the trichomes even if I've seen red trichomes, it's not very usual

I don´t think peyote lacks potency, although most individuals look alike, there are a few fenos that stand out... I´ve com across about 3 individual PP that would put a bear to sleep, extreeeeme indica, with fat cabbage leaves.... I would compare the effects of this specific individual to some
Sensi Star i grew at the same time......

Didn't know trichs photosynthesize, I was under the impression that was the function of the plants tissue like leaves and calyxs.

Also was running under the assumption that resin production happened at night using stored energy from photosynthesis during lights on, but I don't presume to know anythin as fact, that's why I love ic I learn so much

every one I've grown has lacked kick and flavor ... I've grown 2 sensi star to full bloom, one was strong, the other one was scary strong and had very distinctive, if weird, flavor.

PP isn't even in the same conversation/universe in my exp. I've taken only about 6 plants all the way through. The plants are gorgeous, the photos are accurate, but I didn't find anything compelling in my small sample. I've got a full pack of PP left, so maybe I'll find something delightful in the future.

I get what you are saying... indeed, SensiStar is very good plant, and thats why I used her as an example.... not the taste, or overall looks, but potency wise, that deep couchlock effect.... not all individuals of PP are like that, most are bland , not to strong.... I´ve gone through 6 full packs, and still have about 3 seeds of my 7th pack.....from all those packs I kept only 1 mother plant!

Ran Peyote Purple twice. Beautiful looking plants but lacked potency and flavor. PP does have quite a following so it's all a matter of opinion. Running Hammerhead 's GDP x Querkle soon looking for some tasty, potent, purple buds. Good luck!

If you can stand grey/black, DNA Genetics makes Cataract Kush which is strong enough. I am outside growing some right now and it is a fairly short plant with pretty dark leaves. I can't wait to smoke test it.
