thanks Huey! Forgive me if I missed it but what nutrients are you running? Isnt using chem nutes counteractive to using teas for microbial life?

I use SM-90 and i believe that will dwindle the microherd as well as the fungus gnat larvae, etc. Stuff smells great and havent seen any flyers in months. I run it alongside with Jacks+CalNit

No problemo Lotus :tiphat:

Currently I am using Cultured Solutions nutrients with the addition of Botanicare's cal/mag.

I cant say that they are counter active...microbial life is not going to last too long in a hydro system vs a living soil. If I have a living soil and apply chemical nutrients to that soil...from my understanding the roots will absorb nutrients from the chemical nutrients before nutrients from the living soil...this may cause a microbial life interruption or imbalance and cause problems and therefore could be counteractive...however the way I am using microbes is not to feed a living soil but rather use it to ward off the rot in a hydro system so every 2 days for sure you want to add tea.

Now SM-90 is a surfactant...but a different one that I used for my experiment...what a surfactant does is create surface tension on the surface of the water...problem with surfactants is the buubbly/foam...from my theory a surfactant should ward off root rot but weather it kills bennies I am not positive of but I would say it would counteract their purpose just as I believe it should for root rot. I haven't used SM-90 as a surfactant since they changed their recipe but I too love that citrusy odor it has :D

I would love to see what your roots look like with the sm-90...is a chiller needed with just the sm-90?

Your Christmas change would be the candyland (good meds nice color) but he SMW has a very nice color and is a sock kicker.... just not the right color for our area :( ..... Put it like this.... CandyLand = All your usual christmas toys for you and duck doi, and SWM will make you a lot of friends ;) That Myco I will order now... guess it will sit of the self till i learn to brew :( Man I'm Lazy .. But you know i like building so just maybe i will follow your little dyi system sooner then later. Sorry just took my meds and forgot you said you don't have SMW..lol I just had two more root so tell duck doi he can have one this weekend :)

He will be a happy little quacker LOL

Dont order Myco's as I can give you some of mine...I have a pound of the stuff and havent really put a dent in it...Im sure I have a few of the parts like the bulkhead and uniseal you need to put together a nice brewer...I can give you a few pointers also but I know your just going to build yours better than mine lol...Im just kidding...there are a few pointers to think about building a brewer so if you want to know them let me know...I love you keep me on my toes.

Its solved...Candyland it is...she isnt as stout as the GDP right now but I will top her to get her to bush out...does Candyland grow anything like Platinum Cookies? right now Im not seeing the traits but she is just getting situated :D

Start posting that grow my brotha...

thanks for the reply Huey! This is my second run with sm-90 but i am using Jacks with CalNit so its kinda a different scenario.....im in coco as well!

The bulkhead was the hardest part for me to source for the brewer. i ended up making my own using some electrical PVC parts and cut them.....not ideal, but it works! Id be interested in your brewer setup, as yours vortexs soooooo much better than mine

No problem Lotus I love to help...and just to be clear are you using the sm-90 with coco in hydro or in both? I just want to be clear because it could save me some time in the future for using sm-90 in a hydro system to maintain and ward off root rot.

I am glad you were creative finding a bulkhead...I always hate trying to find them...in the morning I can get some detailed pics of the brewer and sizes of things :D

Yeap, SM-90 in coco. Ive had issues with Fungus Gnats before and occasionally i get some larvae in the runoff, but since ive added sm90 to my routine I cant say ive seen a flyer in a month or two and no larvae in runoff. Im told that it does great in hydro situations as well for maintaining the root zone, but i cant tell ya from experience (my guess is it helps moreson in hydro considering its harder to get a microherd population.......i think anyways!)

Thank you for that bit of information about the sm-90 Lotus...I eventually will try sm-90 as a surfactant in my hydro system if the other ones I have dont work...but in theory it should work...in time we will see

I cant say 100% but I believe sm-90 will suffocate a small portion of the herd in coco so you should be fine.

As far as myself I dont think bennies and sm-90 will work in hydro so when I do my testing for surfactants I will not be using bennies :D

Got some more detailed pictures of the diy vortex tea brewer for you my friend...but first I put a couple of videos to show where I got the idea...you may be able to see things better in them to understand the build...the only thing difficult to see in the pictures is how they are able to place the pump on the floor...I just hang my air pump from the ceiling but if want you can do like them and make a u shape in the air line and have that the U higher than the top of the tank...if you look closely you can see how they have done it...hope that makes sense lol

I have placed some arrows where I think it is important to think about in terms of lengthwise...I think it is important because if it is too short you wont build up as much speed in flow but I could be completely full of shite but it sounds good to me.

Hay TheWhiteLotus... I don't know your size limitations.. but i would suggest a 10gal Rubbermaid Brute Gray Trash can.. there only 20 bucks at Lows or HD right now.. a bit more at Ace... No awkward lips to worry about, but it is 10gal instead of 5, and you might not need that much? .... Just trying to get my helpful post up...lol ... no thats what i will be making mine out of, along with a backflow for the air, which im sure he has. GL

My buddy Cheffz

just a word for thought as I am not sure but I believe...you really want a conical container...the 5gal bucket was a prototype I made to test the functionality before I dished out the money for a conical tank...a 10gal garbage can will work but you may run into some challenges

And why do you want to go 10gal? is it that mine has to be better type of thing lol good thing we didnt grow up in the same house :elf: Im just kidding my man...I love sharing the ideas cause there all good and at least we are not making some dumb ars rich and were doing it ourselves...satisfaction feels good

also could you take a look at my video links and let me know if they they are working now :tiphat:

10 gallon would be waaaaay too much for my application......which is mainly for my veggies haha! I don't really add teas to my coco because I use chem salts and I think its counterproductive.....id essentially be trying to create a microherd only to destroy it.....I think anyways (still new to the teas and whatnot)

Bugman, SM90 : "SM-90 is your main defense (alongside loving attention and tender care) against fungus or bugs. Prepared from natural plant oils, not synthetic chemicals, it is completely non-toxic to humans, animals, and, of course, plants. It is bio-degradable and friendly to the environment and it smells good!

As a root disease inhibitor, it is effective treatment for pathogens including fusarium, pythium, rhizoctonia, phytopthera, sclerotinia, etc. etc. etc., just file them under "Plague." Add small quantities to the nutrient solution to ward off root infestation and as a bonus, it encourages new root growth. Treated plants will develop greater root area, expanded root room, and will generally exhibit a bonny root development. "

I was told it was originally listed as an organic pesticide but due to the strict regulations on organic labeling and pesticide, they deemed it a surfactant. I use it at around 4 ml/gallon and all my fungus gnat issues are gone. Also, sparkly bright white roots too!

Wazz up bugman...Lotus pretty much summed it up with the sm-90 but according to the MSDS it is just a wetting agent/spreader...if you check Nutrilife's website sm-90 is used to promote roots...I think they used to make those claims about pythium and root rot backin the day but it has been a while for me...so :dunno:

Time for a little bud porn
