much as I would love to use organic teas and I know a lot of peeps on here talk about how great they are but organics breaks down and that is the last thing you want in your rez. try Great White inoculant and the one good thing about rockwool is that it works great to house the bennies. I've never ran a system like that and I'm sure you already know since it sounds like you're doing your homework. from what I've seen, people like to put the water level right below the rockwool so it splashes up onto it but not touching it at all times. but I suck at hydro so. I did do a bunch of reading but you can read all day long and putting it into practice is the tricky part.

@ACAB Thanks my friend :tiphat: and an little more ghost train for you

@DoubleDD's I'll just brew a very simple tea, I will be growing chemically but using the organics to hold off root rot. Very similar I think to hydrosheild or hydroguard is it? one of the two not sure but they use chicken manure and what not and sell it at a way marked up price. Either way hydro is going to be a lot of fun.

Now for a few pics of this Ghost Train Haze #1 from Rare Dankness. I definately dont know how to take care of this gal, even though she is giving me aromas of fresh carrots which has turned to a more sweet bubble gum :yummy: This is 1 of 2 phenos the other is still early on. This monster is very difficult to photograph she is so tall. Poor thing is not getting as much light as Id like. I had no idea this gal is 2x the stretch.

A pic of a branch I tried to kinda supercrop down to get light, couldnt even fit the whole thing in the pic

And a closeup. Can you see the seed? Damn Docs OG dropping balls.

hey huey cool thread,

the ghost train haze uses an F1 Neviles Wreck (Arcata TW x F2 Nevile's Haze) father... which nevile wreck is a very wispy long flowering sativas, so some ghost train phenos are bound to be very sativa like your first pheno pictured above.

as lots of sativas are... it looks to be a little nitrogen sensitive... you look to have the beginning stages nitrogen toxicity in that first plant (notice the leaf curl)... which will cause your sativa plants to keep flowering, postpone ripening, and can cause harsher flavors and less resin.

that plant probably needs its own feeding regime separate from the other varieties in your garden.

just an observation :tiphat:

Hey Infini :smoke out:

Oh man I could use some help :help: taming this gal but I dont think she is going to be something that stays unless it turns out to be something good and that would be personal smoke only. Id prefer something with a shorter flowering time but my son was excited :woohoo: and well you remember when you first started, I didnt want to kill his enthusiasm and thats why things are a little chaotic.

I am trying to back off the nutes for her but I just have too much on my plate for specifics.

I could use some info though :tiphat: on what sativas want and when they want it :whip:

hydro is really fun and I hope you're one of the successful ones! you can try Switch by optic foliar. you pick off all the balls and then spray it down with the Switch. did that for my aunt's plant on first sight of balls (there were a lot) and it stopped.

I don't have tons and tons of experience with long flowering Sativa, though I have several going now and have had a couple nice Sativa harvests in the past.

Sativas can turn out really really nice, if you find the right pheno and can grow it right and then cure it correctly... many people just don't have the patience to do the pheno hunt then spend so long flowering plants that only yield a fraction of the shorter flowering varieties.

@Double DD's Thanks its been fun so :D Thanks for that nice tip as well about "Switch" I definitely could use some of that right now. :tiphat:

@Infini I hear you on that. I think I have decided she is not something I can really support in my setup. It is a sad thing :badday: but you gotta do what you gotta do. I am happy though to of had her in my garden

I'll be back in a few...

Okay I finally got around to building this vortex type compost tea brewer. The new one is a lot better vortex action than the old one.
The old one had dead spots at the bottom at the 4way cross. It really slowed down water flow and caused some of the amendments to settle at the bottom. Besides that the airstones would build up and block air flow slowing flow as well.
picture.php

Now to eliminate that little problem I copied a vortex design that I saw that moved a lot of water with a great vortex. They had completely eliminated the airstones all together plus the 4way cross.

okay so total noob question but the water exits the bucket below and then travels back up the tube to the top. the air pump goes where and is that how the water travels back up the tube? does it go in the spiget thing I see at the bottom of the pipe? I'm super high and my contacts are stuck to my eyeballs. lol

@DoubleDD's sorry I somehow overlooked your question, but yes the air goes in the side at the bottom....I just didnt have the barb fitting on there....but basically you have it....the air forces the water to travel upward and then back down in a continuous loop...hope that helps :D

@Cheffz welcome, I agree Great White and Orca are great but wouldnt go as far as saying it is the best thing on earth. You may want to give this a try http://www.fungi.com/product-detail/product/mycogrow-soluble-1-lb.html but hey we agree on using benies

Alright, I have a little to report, decided to throw down some Sunshine Daydream from Bodhi and some Talisman from Gage Green
I threw down 5 of the 11 Talisman and got 5 for 5
picture.php

There was one that had the shell stuck and I had to do quick surgery but I dont know if it will make it :shucks:

On the Sunshine Daydream 1 of 5 germed, I still have 6 beans left but mentioned this small problem to Bodhi, no questions asked he is sending out a new pack. That is a class act and that is the type of breeder I want to support :yes

got some SSDD going my self, 7/7 germ rate on my SSDD.

I almost always have to remove seed hulls when popping seeds... not every seed... but every batch there is always one or two.

I never have a problem with it though... regularly misting the seedlings helps a lot, then I get in there with the tip of a wooden skewer and pull off the hull and placenta like thing that covers the embryo, keeping it moist during this process helps avoid damage. :tiphat:

I was really looking for a way to avoid using an airstone for brewing and this would work well if I had the ability to build something like this, which I might if I sat down but not without a few mistakes due to trial and error. right now that is not something I can afford to do but, I might make something like Nes is using for his outdoor grow. he's using an air diffuser hexagon and I can make that no problem! it's just like lego's and I can take them apart and run it through the dishwasher to sterilize :D I also am doing a more water only grow with a few aerated teas every so often so I don't have to clean it so much. school is about to start and I'm taking an extra big load of credits so this sounded really easy and simple. your design looks great though and I am interested in the energy aspects of which way to make the water flow/spin. have you read anything about that?

BayBHuey

La Vida Loca
LOL Infini, I was calling the placenta the forskin in another thread....thats funny but I like yours better than saying forskin lol I knew there was a better word for that :biglaugh:

Yeah that sucked going 1 for 5 but honestly I dont care now. I have a ton of :respect: for Bodhi. He is one dude I would like to pow wow with just because of his kindness. I honestly cant believe that he didnt even question me. It was literally where do I send the seeds. Stand up all the way. :ying:

I usually have good results dealing with the shells but this one I over looked the placenta causing it to hold too much moisture as it was in a dome. It appears it lost half of the cotyledon. Time will tell.

Hi there DoubleDD's, I actually just copied the design as it was easy enough. It moves a lot of air and water without dead spots. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I havent seen Nes' brewer but I have seen the hexagon bubble type brewers that work well and easy to build

yeah if you don't remove them soon enough it can kill the cotyledons severely stunting if not killing the seedling... been there, I try and treat my sprouts literally like babies until I start to see a couple sets of true leaves, they are just to valuable.

and yeah bodhi is the man, he is very generous and has excellent taste in cannabis.

@Infini LOL I have my little ritual doing seeds sounds like you do too. Yeah they are like gold to me...I believe any one could be the one so I hate loosing anything.

I think my son was telling me Bodhi lost one of his fathers for breeding in a heatwave or something so I wanted to possibly get some of that lineage before its gone :D

@DoubleDD's your too kind, thank you! I wish you could have seen this place back in its heyday. This place was full of users like me, well there still is but not as many. :ying:

If there is anything you need dont hesitate to ask, I get a good feeling from helping others, makes me feel useful

Well I have some bad things to say about Rare Dankness. I contacted them concerning all the hermies I got in a pack of their Doc's OG. After going back and forth with them with proof of purchase etc. etc.
They just didnt care they were selling hermies after it was all said and done...so I will no longer support a breeder that doesnt give a fu** about what they are selling...which means I will no longer show or discuss any of their genetics in my garden or not...so sad

Its been a little bit since I updated whats going on...I chopped the Island Sweet Skunk...should help with getting things back on track and better organized...finally found the sweet spot for the under current system and roots are finally dropping down...added some new genetics to the lineup...Talisman seedlings are coming along...The lone Sunshine Daydream is hanging in there...Im sure a bunch of stuff Im forgetting to mention.

I want to mention that the Under Current system is running a pH of 6.2 ec .4 temp 75f (need to snap pics)
2ml A+B grow
1ml cal/mag

I haven't shown or discussed much of the Strawberry Cough I am running from Hazeman...but its about time I do...I got 2 phenos from the 5 beans thrown down...I have to show this one pheno cause I love her look and the sweet/sour aroma of sweethearts...
