looks like some fallout from the recall but HC is getting bitchy about using a third party lab for quality assurance

Wow, no 3rd party testing? I mean i realize companies are left to test things themselves. But there's no way to make sure there's no bias if a company is self regulating that aspect.

With these LP's already showing preference for the almighty dollar over patients, what could go wrong after all?(sarcasm)

If HC is being pissy about 3rd party testing the ONLY reason I can think of why they would do this is that they are protecting these companies interests. NOT the patients. But hey, we already knew that. Heaven forbid a 3rd party were to find something and a batch would have to be recalled again, resulting in financial loses instead of patients health being compromised.

This push back from HC comes from the fact that a whole bunch of applicants used the same lab and qa 3rd parties in their applications. Having 100 guys say the same lab will do their work ain't working. The labs is also at fault for letting people do that and trying to cash in on the rush.

This is going to kick a lot of the smaller LP's ass big time.
It means hiring someone who has done lab work and specifically dealt with aspects of microbiology and spectrometer etc. Then comes the purchase of testing equipment, reagents etc.

Greenleaf could have handled this situation differently. The fact that they haven't released a clear statement and changed their name creates an unfavorable impression.
IMO, the right thing, would have been to keep operating as Greenleaf Medicinals and clearly explain the reasons for recall on their web site. That would have eased concerns of transparency and could have been attributed to "new production practices" which take time to fine tune.

Rumour is GL has their hands tied right now by HC, and have forced them to take down their website. Not sure if this is true, but have heard it through the weedvine.

I don't think they were forced by HC, they changed names and websites because their reputation has been destroyed. They now go by "Broken Coast", and already have a new website up.

The really hilarious thing is that most of the links on the new website just link back to the old GreenLeaf site, lol.

All of this is very true. I'm a qualified QA person that is involved and knowledgeable in these circles, and my inbox is packed full of inquiries from small-scale LP's that are scrambling to try and address these issues.

Interesting! Can you link me to the 'broken coast' url? I cant find it doing a google.

Edit: Never mind, it's http://www.brokencoast.ca/ Lol. Very weird. Looks like my 'rumour' was just that. Thanks for clarification. How odd they think they can rebrand like that.

the link thing is funny....

And HC put out a statement...and it didn't have anything to do with record keeping according to what the statement said.

Hopefully GreenLeaf gets a swift gift of reality.....it doesn't matter what guise they re-appear under, it will quickly be snooped out by the MMJ community, and they will have zero market for their mass-produced product. Canadian medical patients are much smarter than than to support unethical business practices.

I'm not so sure they're a 'mega outfit'. I heard they are pretty small compared to big like tweed.

Anyway, I just read they had to change their name because they were being sued by another company with the same name.

If that was the case then why did they make no mention of this being the reason on their website to avoid confusion among current patients or potential new ones? Transparency is key if these LP's hope to have a chance of even becoming a possible consideration to a patient.

If they can't even gain trust due to lack of transparency involving a company name change, how do they expect to gain the patients or public's trust?"Don't start a relationship based on lies" would be an applicable adage for this scenario.
