Regardless of whether or not Bundy is a cheapskate, the government response is absolutely ridiculous. Using their numbers, they plan on spending upwards of $3.3 million to do a job that would easily be accomplished by private industry for for under $10,000, and probably less than half of that. This is all about who is swinging the biggest dick, nothing else. And with our current police state mentality, I can see this easily becoming the next chapter in the Ruby Ridge/ Waco saga. Hopefully that asshole Lon Horiuchi is nowhere near Nevada. The next thing will be sending SWAT teams to collect on overdue library fines.

I think this is a an issue about the Bureau of Land Mis-Management (BLM) and what that federal agency is getting away with now, and has been doing over the years behind your back.

It is all finally coming to a head. They can no longer hide. Just keep in mind this is YOUR land, YOUR birthright as a US citizen, that they are charged with/allowed to manage. Not theirs or anyone else's. YOURS. That is one of the best things about this country, our beautiful public lands. We can't lose that.

This is another glaring example of what the BLM has been doing and allowed to happen. Now this happens. Very close to physical violence.

Do yourself a favor, google Tim De Christopherr. Read what he did and what he says now. Here's one link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_DeChristopherr

Charlton Library Sends Police To Collect Overdue Books From 5-Year-Old

CHARLTON (CBS) – A Charlton mom says her local library crossed the line when they sent police to collect her daughter’s overdue library books.

Her mom says the 5-year-old girl was so afraid that she burst into tears.

Charlton Police Sergeant Dan Dowd stopped by the home of Shannon Benoit to let her know that her daughter had two books several months overdue which needed to be returned or paid for.

when the "solution" is worse then the "problem" ... you fu***d up some where in your plans..

is there a smiley icon that slaps his hand against his head?

that may be true but if the removal of the cattle was helped by Bundy instead of hindered the opposite might be true.

if they were going to wait for Bundy's compliance I could see him stalling the feds for another 20 years.

the solution is always worse than the problem when they show up on your property with a warrant, that's just a given. if they were met with compliance then there wouldn't be a need for snipers, choppers, swat, etc... costs would be dramatically reduced.

Bundy should consider doing something like raising llama, high value, little work and the climate is just right where he's at, that 20 acre homestead of his would easily support enough llama for him to continue his standard of living.

when situations change you adapt or perish.......

If we all complied and did not grow a illegal plant, we would not be raided. There are plenty of other plants to grow. It raises the cost of police enforcement extracted unwillingly from the rest of us. If you don't like it comply anyways, leave or die.

I don't suppose you see the flaw in that type of thinking which blames the victim for the abuse imposed by organized criminals ?

The last video I posted suggests that they are there for land development and that it is rich in recourses underground. There was another link I previously posted which suggests the BLM will euthanize the desert tortoises anyway. This would no longer make it a habitat that needs protection, which speaks to the validity of the claim made in the video.

Eminent domain is another tool used for the "public good" to seize private assets for developers.

But a Charlton Public Library spokeswoman said that it wasn't just Hailey's overdue books that prompted the police intervention. She also noted $100 worth of late fees for overdue audio books checked out by Hailey's father, Tony Benoit.

"I asked the chief... 'When does something borrowed become stolen?" said Cheryl Hansen. "'The chief said, 'When it's overdue!""

Hansen said that despite a warning letter and library calls made to the family, the books had remained unreturned.

"We thought this would be a kinder way, a friendly reminder saying 'Hey can you bring this back,' rather than sending a summons," she added.

Police Chief James A. Pervier said his officers have been asked by library personnel to make similar visits to at least 13 other Charlton households over library late fees.

Officials say the police-backed crackdown has since inspired more prompt book returns among library patrons.

"We've gotten quite a bit back," said Hansen. "Even some things that weren't overdue!"

Benoit told CNN that she has since returned the overdue books, making the return trip to the library shortly after the officer's visit.

seems they actually committed fraud..

I would submit that awakening to a SWAT team at 6:00 am is a disproportionate response, even to fraud. Same thing with a police knock & talk for a $100 library fine.

Some pretty interesting responses on here from our law & order advocates that don't seem to understand that they could easily be receiving the same attention. Ummmm..... what is it that attracted all of us to this site again?

not even like comparing apples to oranges, that's more like an apples to coconuts analogy.

In Bundy's case he claims to be the last man standing (never automatically a hero btw) of the 50+ ranchers that shared those grazing lands and has been openly defiant in vacating lands he has no right to use.

So, what if Bundy was renting a house from you Bentom, he and his family have rented & lived there for 16 years, but one day he decides he's paid you enough rent for one lifetime; he figures the rent paid far exceeds the value of the home, so he locks and shutters the doors & windows, starts growing his veggies in the basement and refuses to leave, EVER. He doesn't want to title your house over to himself, he just wants what he used to pay for but now he wants it for free.

^^^^^Now that's an analogy^^^^^

when the landlord wants you off their land you're gone.

the feds own that land, BLM manages it.

if they want to develop it? fuck Bundy, it's theirs to develop, they don't NEED to try to get him out with the old turtle ploy, they don't need any excuses to cancel your ticket. They wanna frack it they can frack it. If it were a national forest or park it might take an act of Congress to allow the feds to convert the use of those lands, but it's not, it's just federal land.

Bundy obviously has a problem with the feds owning that land, he says he'd be happy to pay Clark County for grazing rights, I guess his kin folk done fucked up ranching on federal land back in the 1800's, but you can't blame the govt for that can you?

And so then, how long should the Bundy's be allowed to illegally graze their cattle??? We know his son was arrested, so he's got a son to follow family tradition and after that his son could raise another family of squatters, and so on, and so on and.......

A letter from Mr Bundy's daughter giving their side of the story. Kinda enlightening.

By: Jay Syrmopoulos Apr 9, 2014

Mr. Bundy’s daughter Shiree Bundy Cox in a letter explains the feud from the family’s perspective:

“I have had people ask me to explain my dad’s stance on this BLM fight. Here it is in as simple of terms as I can explain it. There is so much to it, but here it s in a nut shell. My great grandpa bought the rights to the Bunkerville allotment back in 1887 around there. Then he sold them to my grandpa who then turned them over to my dad in 1972. These men bought and paid for their rights to the range and also built waters, fences and roads to assure the survival of their cattle, all with their own money, not with tax dollars. The rights to the land use are called preemptive rights. Some where down the line, to keep the cows from over grazing, came the Bureau of Land Management. They were supposed to assist the ranchers in the management of their ranges while the ranchers paid a yearly allotment which was to be use to pay the BLM wages and to help with repairs and improvements of the ranches. My dad did pay his grazing fees for years to the BLM until they were no longer using his fees to help him and to improve. Instead they began using these monies against the ranchers. They bought all the rest of the ranchers in the area out with they’re own grazing fees. When they offered to buy my dad out for a penance he said no thanks and then fired them because they weren’t doing their job. He quit paying the BLM and tried giving his grazing fees to the county, which they turned down. So my dad just went on running his ranch and making his own improvements with his own equipment and his own money, not taxes. In essence the BLM was managing my dad out of business. Well when buying him out didn’t work, they used the endangered species card. You’ve already heard about the desert tortoise. Well that didn’t work either, so then began the threats and the court orders, which my dad has proven to be unlawful for all these years. Now they’re desperate. It’s come down to buying the brand inspector off and threatening the County Sheriff. Everything their doing at this point is illegal and totally against the Constitution of the United States of America. Then there’s the issue of the cattle that are at this moment being stolen. See even if dad hasn’t paid them, those cattle belong to him, regardless of where they are they are my father’s property. His herd has been part of that range for over a hundred years, long before the BLM even existed. Now the Feds think they can just come in and remove them and sell them without a legal brand inspection or without my dad’s signature on it. They think they can take them over two borders, which is illegal, ask any trucker. Then they plan to take them to the Richfield Auction and sell them. All this with our tax money. They have paid off the contract cowboys and the auction owner as well as the Nevada brand inspector with our tax dollars. See how slick they are? Well, this is it in a nut shell. Thanks”

Thanks, RR. It should also be mentioned that this is calving season. The calves have been separated from their mothers by the BLM, so they are starving. This is roughly the same fate that the BLM has decided is appropriate for the desert tortoises, who were supposedly "protected" by the BLM usurping the rights to this land. Since their budget was cut, they've decided to euthanize the tortoises. I wonder how the tortoises survived before the BLM was formed, and how much BLM money actually made it to tortoise level?

So, what if Bundy was renting a house from you Bentom, he and his family have rented & lived there for 16 years, but one day he decides he's paid you enough rent for one lifetime; he figures the rent paid far exceeds the value of the home, so he locks and shutters the doors & windows, starts growing his veggies in the basement and refuses to leave, EVER. Not quite an accurate analogy, though. It's more like Bundy's family was homesteading wilderness land for 7 generations (since about a decade after Nevada achieved statehood), and made improvements on the land with their own money and labor. Then the government decided that they should charge rent for it after, oh, a hundred years or so. Then they decided that they had a higher need for the land, and wanted to evict the homesteader. Of course, their higher need is based on the idea that an animal that has lived their for thousands (millions?) of years cannot survive without their assistance, and subsequently needs to be destroyed when the BLM budget was whacked.

BLM the protectors. From what I understand the wild horses they had rounded up that weren't sold/adopted were sold to slaughter houses in Mexico. They are forever rounding up the wild horses and burros because, "the range won't support them". They have even gone as far as to construct fences around desert watering holes to keep out the horses and burros. The BLM are pieces of shit that, outside of their environmentalist friends, command no respect here in Nevada.

it's more accurate than you give credit for.

they were renters, nothing more. not only was their time up, it was up back in 1998 when they were already 5 years in arrears, having paid no fees since '93.

I thought it was an apt analogy :)

had he been doing this for the good of a group or someone other than himself it would likely be considered noble, as he was doing it for the good of nobody but himself I still call it greed.

now, and I mean NOW he claims he's willing to pay to Clark County his grazing fees, but it's federal land. Here's another analogy, that's like an adult writing to Santa, we all want shit we're never gonna get.

He wants to convert federal land to county so that the endangered species statute doesn't come into play, again benefiting only one man.

if it's the govt stopping the flow of water to a bunch of farmers down river that need it then I'm all for a good old fashioned revolt, I'd back that up, but no way can I stand behind this shifty dude. The only way this story could be any more complete would have been if this guys first name was Al.......

Ok there are a lot of variables in you given hypothetical situation.

Lets address how I got the house.

I can build it, buy it or steal it. Natural land does not require anyone to do anything to it. So there is a slight difference you just have to claim it.

So if I move to a lot of land with no one making any claim to it I suppose its mine to do anything I want without owing anyone anything. I also expect to be left alone afterward but sociopaths might have other plans.

If ,in the case of the government (sociopaths) I murder and displace the previous in habitants (Indians) then I would be a worthless scum bag living at the expense of other people. Then I make the rules offering a alternative of death or compliance or a protection fee like the mob which is essentially compliance .

If I buy it with consent then I could do what I want to the extent I built it myself or settled the land myself. I would own it and no one could charge me jack. so it would be the same as option one.

So what I see at play is option number two, that the government stole it then decided to charge rent as if they owned it legitimately.
Further they have not done anything to it for decades perhaps centuries and then decided to deny a mans right to use it, even though he has made improvements and saved the thieves money from the up keep of the land, producing something actually beneficial to society. He paid their extortion fee to them, up until they decided not to let his cattle graze there for a arbitrary law regarding turtles.

What I pointed out earlier is the legal fiction of splitting rights of use and ownership to distinguish the arguments at play.

This, applied to humans is slavery, you owning your body ,yet having someone else take the use of it without consent, would never be accepted by sane people. But we pay the government taxes and ask them for permission for everything we do.

Keep in mind the government owns or claims all the land, and that makes us their de-facto cattle. If you want to challenge them you will die. I think that's why there is a lot of outrage. People are sick and tired of being treated as cattle.

I don't understand why people wish to preserve and fight for the illusion of freedom if that is the case.
I would figure its less violent than dealing with sociopaths who promise to destroy the earth if their rule is threatened but, you are not living at all in that instance, you would be the same as Bundy's cattle or any free range chicken or any human slave in history.

Bundy= congress = mob = majority vote or violence
You = cattle

I think evolving past this mob operation, and the use of force to gain wealth or piece of mind in life would be a evolutionary jump for our species.

I don't know if you agree that slavery is bad, I would hope so because this is really what is at stake.

Do you own yourself ?
Do you own what you produce ?
Do you have the total right to own property or the product of what you produce and pass anything you own down to your heirs?
What are you or your family gaining in life if the answer to all of that is no.

If the government says no to any of the above you are their slave and they have the guns to prove it.
